Welcome to Penaber Bed and Breakfast where Gary & Mary's aim is to make your stay as enjoyable, comfortable and relaxed as possible. Penaber is a distinctive detached residence standing in nearly an acre of land; It was built in the 1930s and individually designed by a well known local architect. The house is situated on the Morfa Bychan road a 1/4 of a mile from Porthmadog, it sits in its own grounds with a private driveway for safe off-road parking. Penaber had stood empty for nearly 30 years until we bought it in 2002 and had it fully renovated. The house is ideally situated to reach local attractions and places of interest in the area such as Portmeirion, Mount Snowdon, many Castles, slate and copper mines, zip wires a number of narrow gauge railways, and many golf courses, all of which are too many to mention, and not forgetting the beautiful beaches. Activities can include sailing, water sports, golfing, fishing, rambling, sightseeing or just relaxing. The house is a good central base for all activities and attractions Borth y Gest is located a 10 minute walk from the house it is a pretty harbour village on the shores of the Glaslyn estuary commanding views of both mountains and sea. With easy access onto the Welsh Coastal path The busy seaside town of Porthmadog is a 15 minute walk away, it's on the border of Snowdonia and the Llyn peninsula. Porthmadog has an ample supply of eating places from cafes , pubs to bistros and restaurants, It is also the home of the Purplemoose micro brewery Although having few high street names, Porthmadog is an excellent shopping centre with a huge variety of small, independent, locally owned shops, from book-shops to music shops, where you can find almost anything you need. There is a leisure centre (Canolfan Hamdden Glaslyn) and at Morfa Bychan there is Black Rock Sands, a popular two mile long sandy beach, with views of Harlech and Criccieth castles. Penaber has one twin and two double rooms, all the rooms are en-suite and are tastefully decorated, the house is strictly non-smoking. They have tea and coffee making facilities and a 32 inch television with a dvd player and also free Wi-Fi is available The rooms are priced from £75 per night inclusive of Full Welsh Breakfast depending on seasons. Ideal for long or short stays

What a find this was. The house is wonderful, set in large and very well kept gardens, and Mary and Gary are the perfect hosts. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and they really make you feel at home. The rooms are immaculate and large, with far more wardrobe space than you could possibly need, and the views either of the garden or surrounding countryside are magnificent. The breakfasts are excellent, whether you want a full cooked breakfast, or the fruit bowl, or anything in between, you won't be disappointed. Penaber is situated less than a mile from Porthmadog centre, and a short walk from Borth y Gest and is ideally positioned for a holiday base. We have been twice, and are booked in again, we wouldn't go anywhere else and we have no hesitation in recommending Penaber to anyone.

Without any doubt Penaber B&B is the best we've ever stayed at. With only three letting rooms the welcome from hosts Mary and Gary is warm and personal. We were offered tea and excellent home made Bara Brith in the garden on arrival. Those three rooms are upstairs, and have no adjoining walls, and the owners' accommodation is downstairs so a peaceful night's sleep is guaranteed.

The property is immaculate in both decoration and cleanliness and all fixtures, fittings and furnishing are top quality. During out stay it was warm enough that the heated towel rails never came on, so we were treated to freshly laundered thick fluffy towels every day. Not many much more expensive hotels do that automatically.

Breakfast ranges from a full Welsh, through to cereal and toast and pretty everything in between, with flexibility on the time it is taken. The B&B doesn't offer an evening meal but the recommendations Gary offered us for local restaurants were all spot on.

Penaber is in a quiet spot just outside the town, with a short walk to the centre if you prefer not to have to worry about having a drink in the evening. There is plentiful off road parking at the house.

Finally although we already had some plans for our visit Gary and Mary were able to offer other suggestions for places to visit and things to do.

Overall it was an excellent stay. If we return to Porthmadog in the future we will not hesitate to stay at Penaber again.

The four of us thoroughly enjoyed staying 5 nights at Penaber at the end of October. Mary and Gary are marvellous hosts and nothing is too much trouble - when we got soaked in some of the Welsh wet weather, they kindly dried our coats for us overnight. Breakfasts are big, tasty and well cooked and served in the conservatory with great views of the garden. The house is spotlessly clean. Rooms are massive and I mean MASSIVE with extensive wardrobe space, well sized en suites and very large, warm radiators. The rooms are bright with huge windows overlooking the lovely garden. Penaber is ideally situated in a very quiet location just outside Porthmadog. We highly recommend Penaber - you will be assured of a wonderful Welsh welcome and you cannot help but love Mary's great Welsh accent!

I stayed here for one night on a bike tour. The accomodation was superb and Mary and Gary were perfect hosts. My bike was stored away safely and I was offered refreshment on arrival after a long day. As an example of the care they provide for their guests, they contacted me about a fortnight before arrival to suggest that local restaurants needed to be booked in advance. The Certificate of Excellence is fully deserved.

My cousin and I stayed at this B&B recently for a couple of nights. It was a fantastic stay. We booked the twin room and it had everything you could have asked for. The room was spotlessly clean, we had tea / coffee amenities (the kettle was descaled 🤩) , a power shower (again the bathroom was super clean) - shower gel and hand soap was provided. Lots of room and brilliant views. Mary & Gary were outstanding hosts. I loved the little touch of a cup of tea and a slice of home baked Bara Brith on our arrival. Breakfast was fantastic, too. Many thanks 🙏🏼

B&B from heaven.... On arriving we were welcome by both owners Mary & Gary, both could not of given more of a welcoming! The B&B stands in its own grounds looking out to fields, trees, birds and tranquility.
Hospitality is highly rated couldn't ask for more welcoming people. The breakfast is everything you need to start the day from an array of cereals, fruit and of course a delicious welsh breakfast.
All the bedrooms are very spacious with ensuite facilities. All rooms are decorated to a high standard. Our room (3) looked out to the far side of the property, lovely to hearing the bird call in the morning.
The B&B is about 10min walk to Borth Y Gest down hill to the quaint harbour with loving walks to private sanding coves. Alternatively Porthmadog is about 15mins down hill for a little retail theraphy or a refeshment or two!. Both area you can catch a taxi that don't cost the earth.
The B&B is across from Tyddyn Llwyn so ideal if you have family with tourers and you can the luxury of the B&B!

Penaber comes highly rated and will not be our last time of visiting.

Thank you 🌈

This is our second visit to Penaber - we love it and will be returning soon, we hope! The house and rooms are spotless and the peaceful gardens and location are lovely. The breakfasts were well cooked - piping hot and good quality food. I had dietary needs which Mary readily supported. The bed and pillows were soooo comfy I had the best sleeps ever...I was so impressed I wanted to ask what make they were! The rooms are large with plenty of storage so you are not living out of a suitcase and the tea and coffee with biscuits was welcome after a day of being out and about with lots to see and do in the area. The parking is easy and safe and the small road is quiet. The wifi and TV are also good. Our hosts were very warm and friendly and very helpful while being professional. You will not be disappointed with this choice and the great value it offers.

Selected primarily on location for the area - not visited before. Seemed a good base to have as located within easy reach of a number of places of interest.

The property is beautifully presented, in a quiet location, away from the main road. Parking is available on and off road.

Our room (Room 2) was expansive, light and airy. Nice slice of bara brith on arrival.. always goes down well..
Shower was excellent, very powerful. Large bed (super king size?) very comfortable.

The hosts, Gary and Mary, were very welcoming, very attentive to ensuring we had all we needed; excellent cooked breakfast, we were well set up for the day.

All in all, was excellent value for our stay - would absolutely stay here again without hesitation if available when visiting the area.

First and foremost we’d like to say a massive Thankyou to Gary and Mary for being such great hosts. We were greeted as soon as we had arrived and helped in with our luggage, after taking our luggage to our room which I must add was spotless and homely, we were made fresh tea/coffee with cake and sat out in the garden.

We then went on a short walk nearby through fields to a beach which took no longer than 10-15 minutes.

In the morning before we left they made breakfast for us early because we had Snowdonia/caving to be at early. Overall very friendly and helpful hosts.

Many thanks

Aaron and Sophie
