We stayed here for one night in March before catching the Islay ferry early the following morning. The hotel is perfectly situated only four miles from the ferry terminal in a beautiful location by the loch. Our room was a generous size and had excellent views across the loch. The evening meal was excellent. Staff could not have been more...

We always plan our trips to the kintyre peninsula and Islay so that we get at least two nights at this hotel. The public areas, restaurant, bar and company of the owner Andrew are superb. I hope one day that the decor and general quality of the rooms matches the public areas, and I am sure it will happen.

I have just had the most amazing meal, all freshly cooked, presented beautifully, with attentive but (not overly) waiting staff. Please....if you are passing on your way to Islay step and try the menu.

We only had drinks and dinner at the hotel......we were staying at the lodges 1 mile past. The meal was excellent in what I thought was a nice atmospheric hotel. Open fires, beautiful view. Excellent selection of Island Malts in the bar. The quality of the food.....particularly the scallops starter was well above expectation for a small hotel. Decent wine...

I stayed at a nearby B&B but had dinner here before taking the ferry out in the morning. I quite enjoyed an upscale Scottish meal and had a great conversation with one of the owners as I perused and sampled from their extensive whisky collection. It was a warm welcome on a chilly fall evening. I highly recommend the restaurant!

Was here with my elderly mother and nothing was too much trouble, they took great care of her and made a real fuss of her. The restaurant was well above average and reasonable, the bar was a great place to be in the hotel and the log fires mad a great atmosphere. It really is a nice place to stay

Lovely scenic views of lake across the road; breakfast with a view. Short distance to Tarbert town. Friendly proprietors. Most comfortable feather pillows ever. Fine dining restaurant on site and comfortable bar lounge.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A small, family-run establishment, the West Loch Hotel dates from around 1780, and is well known locally for having some of the best food in the area. We are well placed for guests passing through, and for those wishing to spend longer in the area, exploring Argyll & the Isles. Ideally located for people heading on the whisky trail to Islay (just minutes from the ferry), most guests find our large whisky selection the perfect start to their adventure! A charming, former coaching inn, the hotel has been sympathetically modernised over the years, retaining many of its original features. Our rooms are dog-friendly, with a choice of double or single rooms, and we have also got family rooms available for those travelling with children. Able to cater for small events, from birthday parties to weddings, we always go the extra mile to make sure your special occasion is extra special. ... more   less
