After our 2016 visit we had to make Haltwhistle and the Centre of Britain an absolute certainty on our cycle route plan. Going anywhere else was madness. Christine Hancock and her staff did it all again, only better still. Warm reception, helpfulness and genuine kindness, nothing too much trouble. The food was amazing and so much of it. Rooms, beds,...

We were not staying at this hotel but in a B&B 5 miles away. The B&B had info about where to eat and their folder showed a rather interesting 'daily changing' 3 course menu for £19.95, with an option of having a glass of house wine or a pint of beer instead of a third course. We liked this idea but...

Couldn't have been made to feel more welcome or looked after. Chrissie and Sarah were absolute stars. Our room was great! Comfiest bed ever with lovely Egyptian cotton sheets. Sauna too! And most importantly, our dog, Lady, loved it and was again completely spoilt. Amazing place as a base to explore or as a cosy hideaway for the weekend. Breakfast...

This is a beautiful hotel with a lot of very interesting features. Eating was very expensive but looked delicious, we chose to eat at the chip shop a few doors down which was delicious and the fish was massive. Breakfast in the hotel was excellent. We had our own little chalet, he only down side was no Telly in the...

I recently went to the Centre of Britain for a meal and it's fair to say I've never had food so nice. The lasagne, made by chef Christine Hancock, is definitely the best one I've ever tasted (and I've had a few). Topped off with amazing service from Ebony Banks as well, made the night extra special and unforgettable. Well...

We were 3 walkers for 2 nights 17 & 18 May 2016. Christine Hancock the Manager or Owner looked after all our needs and provided superb food and first class service. The bedrooms have been recently revamped with small mezzanine floors housing the double bed - quite quaint.

A firm favourite for special occasions, or just a delightful meal. The staff are lovely, friendly and polite. The food is amazing, from start to finish and the homemade bread is to die for! Always compliments to the chef! Reasonably priced for 5 star dining. Can't wait to eat here again :)

Booked this hotel for a random weekend away exploring Hadrian's Wall. The hotel is in a great spot 'the centre of Britain'. Check in was quick and very welcoming. We were shown to our room ( to call it a room was a bit of an understatement) and shown how things work. The room was cosy and warm and very...

Stayed at new year and went to allendale for the tar barrel festival. Can't fault it at all. Great breakfast and great room as well - all the family slept well. Lots of parking nearby and a decent chippy too. Great stay and would recommend if you're in the area.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This is Haltwhistle’s most historic building. The oldest part of the hotel was a Border Reivers' Pele Tower, dating from the 15th Century. Later it became a Manor House, Excise Office, Coaching Inn, Post Office, Temperance Hotel, Pub and Cafe. In 1997 we completely refurbished the building, finding many archaeological and architectural features - many of which have been included in the presentation of the reborn Hotel. The result – a combination of modern comfort & Tradition. We have a total of 12 bedrooms, all individually designed many with original architectural features. All have private bathrooms and are equipped with TV, radio, direct dial telephones, hospitality trays and hair dryers. We have a secure car park at the rear of the hotel with direct access to the rearSo, there is something for everyone, but most of all a warm welcome with a relaxed style and atmosphere to make you feel at home. ... more   less
