I recently went to the Centre of Britain for a meal and it's fair to say I've never had food so nice. The lasagne, made by chef Christine Hancock, is definitely the best one I've ever tasted (and I've had a few). Topped off with amazing service from Ebony Banks as well, made the night extra special and unforgettable. Well...

We were 3 walkers for 2 nights 17 & 18 May 2016. Christine Hancock the Manager or Owner looked after all our needs and provided superb food and first class service. The bedrooms have been recently revamped with small mezzanine floors housing the double bed - quite quaint.

A firm favourite for special occasions, or just a delightful meal. The staff are lovely, friendly and polite. The food is amazing, from start to finish and the homemade bread is to die for! Always compliments to the chef! Reasonably priced for 5 star dining. Can't wait to eat here again :)

Booked this hotel for a random weekend away exploring Hadrian's Wall. The hotel is in a great spot 'the centre of Britain'. Check in was quick and very welcoming. We were shown to our room ( to call it a room was a bit of an understatement) and shown how things work. The room was cosy and warm and very...

Stayed at new year and went to allendale for the tar barrel festival. Can't fault it at all. Great breakfast and great room as well - all the family slept well. Lots of parking nearby and a decent chippy too. Great stay and would recommend if you're in the area.

On a one night stay, I was given one of the courtyard rooms; the room was interesting and on two levels......never before had a private sauna!! Loved the bedroom with in-ceiling heating, perfect to take the chill off on a cold night, and altogether a good experience. Breakfast choice was substantial and service excellent. Worth a return visit, for sure,...

In Haltwhistle town centre, in an 18th-century coaching inn, this elegant hotel lies 6 miles from Vindolanda Roman fort and village, and 7 miles from Hadrian's Wall (defensive fortifications). Featuring period details such as oak beams and vaulted ceilings, the 12 warm rooms also provide en suite bathrooms, TVs, tea and coffeemaking facilities, and wood-burning stoves. Suites add separate sitting...

Plenty of parking with easy access to the hotel, this wonderfully convenient hotel was clean, warm and welcoming. Check in was a breeze, the delightfully old building didn't belie it's age in any way with the room managing to be both spacious and cosy, with a very large, clean bathroom including a good range of toiletries. Breakfast was served efficiently...

We checked in on a damp, rainswept Sunday evening in November with our dog, after tramping Hadrian's Wall! We got a really warm reception and equally warm accommodation, attached to the main hotel, consisting of a small downstairs sitting room, with underfloor heating and shower etc with a cosy twin bedroom on a mezzanine floor. We choose to book a...

Stayed one night on business. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the station. I was given one of the rooms at the back of the hotel next to the car park. It was on a split level and reminded me of a mini cottage. Small lounge area and bathroom downstairs with twin beds upstairs. Minor and I mean...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This is Haltwhistle’s most historic building. The oldest part of the hotel was a Border Reivers' Pele Tower, dating from the 15th Century. Later it became a Manor House, Excise Office, Coaching Inn, Post Office, Temperance Hotel, Pub and Cafe. In 1997 we completely refurbished the building, finding many archaeological and architectural features - many of which have been included in the presentation of the reborn Hotel. The result – a combination of modern comfort & Tradition. We have a total of 12 bedrooms, all individually designed many with original architectural features. All have private bathrooms and are equipped with TV, radio, direct dial telephones, hospitality trays and hair dryers. We have a secure car park at the rear of the hotel with direct access to the rearSo, there is something for everyone, but most of all a warm welcome with a relaxed style and atmosphere to make you feel at home. ... more   less
