Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
My room at this property was quite good. It was spacious, well equipped and most importantly, very clean. Breakfast portions are huge and served very efficiently.
One interesting aspect of this hotel is the owner. He is a wealth of information about Sri Lanka and its history. If he isn't too busy and have questions about the country I'm quite sure he can provide an accurate and entertaining answer.
As many reviews point out the property itself is fairly elevated from the street and the rooms go far higher. Depending on where your room is you could potentially have a lot of stairs to climb so this is probably not a good choice for people with mobility issues. The staff members are always watchful and eager to help when they see someone who needs help navigating the stairs or carrying something up or down.
This property is located at a fairly sharp curve in the road so depending on where your room is situated you may hear honking, but mostly during the day. I didn't find this to be an issue at night.
English is extremely well spoken here.

Property directly facing Ella gap with the most amazing views! I did plenty of research for scenic hotels in Ella, and actually went to visit places like Lavendra Paradise, Ekho Ella, Seven Heaven, The View, just to see what I was getting in terms of view. Misty Hills location is better than all of these as it has unobstructed views of Ella Rock and little Adams Peak. In my opinion, the views from the rooms on the level just before the top floor are the best. I was staying on the top floor, but moved down a floor as I could take better pictures without having a canopy distorting the view. Mr Bandara and his team are very hospitable and take great pride in looking after their guests. If you really want great views of Ella gap I would recommend you don’t waste your time by looking at other hotels. Just book this one.

The staff at this particular hotel where superb and attentive. Helped us with advice whenever we were in need. we found our room was great value. It was spacious, clean and air con worked well (very important factor for us). But the best feature of our room was the beautiful view we had. We could see “Ellas gap” which is the space between two peaks, “little Adams peak” and “Ellas peak”. We had breakfast there twice. And both times it was superb. It was all quick, tasted fresh and there was plenty of it. We also decided to have lunch there one day after climbing little Adams peak one morning. We both had a chicken curry with roti. And I have to say, it was the best curry I had in Sri Lanka. It tasted so fresh and authentic and bursting with flavour. For what we paid I have no complaints or critique. And if I was to go Ella again I’d definitely have this as a top choice.

Lovely views from the balconies and good sized rooms (space for an extra bed and baby cot), breakfast was ok and staff were friendly but we weren’t always sure they actually understood us. Value for money was ok. However there are a few things that need improving - overall cleanliness, room and towels felt grubby. Had dirty feet from walking around the room and lots of ants. Bathroom could do with an update/maintenance. Very noisy from neighbors room - could hear music at night and smell when they were smoking. Wifi was totally unreliable, often not working for half a day or more.

I fell in love with the view before I'd even got there, but that combined with the beautiful room made it even more special. The rooms are huge and have a wonderful big balcony looking down the Ella gap. Town took us about 15mins to walk to and is all uphill, but tuk tuks can be arranged if needed (walking it after dark can get a bit hairy). The wi-fi was perfect in the room and the bed was so comfy I could have slept in every day - don't, set an alarm for sunrise as it's a wonderful view from the balcony. The manager and owner were both really friendly and helpful and the kitchen guys cook a wonderful breakfast. Wish I could have stayed longer.

Amazing view to wake up to in the morning. Wake up early around 5:30am to see the purple hue of the sky. The hotel is very reasonably priced and is about 5mins outside of Ella via car. It’s very easy to get a tuk-tuk late at night from Ella to the hotel. As the hotel is surrounded by deep vegetation a lot of flies can fly in through doors left open. However the beds are covered with mosquito nets.

I was staying at the hotel one night, the way to the hotel is a hard and a lot of stairs. Reception looks 200 years old and furniture are teared. The room was full of mosquitoes. I woke up to a bad breakfast which contained old bread . Then went out travel when I came back to hotel at 1700, my girlfriend went to the toilet, when flashed the toilet dozens of bugs came out of it, in addition we had no hot water and even after complain wasn’t fix, and had lizards in the room. Therefore I asked to leave the hotel to a proper one. The owner didn’t agree to hear and after a long fight (more than a hour) and because of help from my local tour guide gave me back 70% of the second night which I didn’t stay, as he said due to check out time is 1200… He was super rude and have no respect to his clients. The manager tried to help but knows bad English and have to listen to his rude owner. In conclusion- worst hotel I’ve ever stay in.

With amazing views of sunrise through Ella gap, Misty Hills is a perfect stopping spot in Ella. The rooms were spacious with lovely balcony views! Staff were very friendly, teaching us phrases in Singelese and taking time to share about this history of the area. The food was amazing! With very generous serves! A great place to relax after braving Little Adams Peak.

One of the best views of ella are from the balcony of 8 rooms in this resort. Big rooms, big balconies and bathrooms. Staying here involves climbing steep stairs as it is located on a hill with a rivulets passing by next to it. Breakfasts are good. Does not have a full fledged restaurant.

This Hotel has a great view, but thats it! Bad room, bad Breakfast and the waiters don’t understand anything! The Fresh orangejuice wasnt fresh. I told him that this is can, he told me it is Fresh. A Liar is even worse! Don’t visit this bad Hotel!

We are extremly sorry to hear that you didn't have a pleasent experience with us, may I know what exactly you didn't like about the room and the breakfast provided, so I can follow this up with the staff? I can assue you this would not happen the second time you are around. As for Fresh Orange Juice, we currently don't serve any canned juice products. All Juices are freshly cut and made, so I'm sorry again that you didn't get a fresh taste of orange. I have noted down these points and will inform the mangement. Thanks you! for your comments.
