After a lot of research we ended up booking the Kinabatangan Jungle Camp. It was a big hit. This is a small scale camp, far away from a crowded resort. We were picked up by car in Sepilok by Roberts brother and were provided a lot of interesting and valuable information on the 2 hour journey down to the river...

My friend recommended this to me, I probably wouldn't have found it otherwise! All booking was done via email which was a little scary but totally not an issue! We happened to be the only people staying there for the three nights - this was a bonus as the staff were fully attentive and seemed to appreciate us being there....

I was accidentally early for my appointment by a day, having booked a mistaken date, and yet in my correspondence by email and phone with Robert he assured me it was fine and gave me a room and boat tours no problem. Also, in addition to the excellence of the boat tours, the buffet dinner is pretty damn good! Robert...

The guides were amazing. We were able to spot owls, crocodiles, kingfisher and even a frog in the night cruise. We saw orang utans, proboscis monkeys, hornbills... It is a well maintained place in the jungle close to nature. They even have kid sized life jackets for my kids. Great food. My kids, 12, 10, 7, 3 had a great...

Pros: delicious and ample food, seamless transfer in and out, and small groups for the river tours. And ample wildlife to spot (but that is more because of habitat squeeze due to the surrounding palm oil plantations). Cons: sheets were stained in spots, bathroom had a horrid smell, and our guide was only mildly informative. The jungle walk was mostly...

The staff at KJC are extremely helpful and friendly. Everything ran very smoothly from our hostel pickup to our stay to our drop off at the airport. The food was great and plentiful and there is always a cup of tea. The room was spacious and very clean. The boat cruises were the highlight. We saw a huge herd of...

Went with a group of friends and stayed in this wonderful jungle camp. The camp was simple but clean and comfortable. Food was excellent and staff were friendly. The guides were great and we managed to see elephants, crocodiles, proboscis monkey, various species of birds and beautiful little insects. We also had surprised visitors to the camp - black squirrels, monitor lizards,...

After a tremendous amount of research on how we could explore Borneo on a backpackers' budget, we were delighted to find this budget friendly option to make our dream trip to Borneo a reality. Coming from Sandakan, we took a shuttle (arranged by the camp and included in our package) for approximately two hours to the river front. Then the...

This place is amazing. We caught the 7am VIP luxury bus from Semporna to Kinabatangan and could have got off at Sekau Junction - about 4 hours which was no effort in really great bus. We were met by a driver from the KJC who took us to boat and then on to the camp in time for lunch. We...

Overall an excellent experience at Kinabatangan Jungle Camp! Communication was easy from the start, airport transfer was on time and dependable, the camp is simple and clean, the staff friendly and accommodating, the river cruises intimate and exhilarating, the guides well-informed, the meals ample and delicious, the bedding and furnishings basic (hey it's a camp), the hot showers? - available...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Kinabatangan Jungle Camp was established in the year 2004 in the lower Kinatangan Wildlife Sanctuary near the village of Bilit. The whole concept is simply truly jungle. Today, many repeat visitors especially birders still come to KJC to search for the very illusive Bornean Ground Cuckoo and others still try their luck to see the Clouded Leopard. ... more   less
