We are a family of 5 and had always wanted to visit Zanzibar to explore the area better. We booked Moja Tuu for our family and we were extremely happy with the stay and services that were provided by the wonderful staff.

The villa was absolutely gorgeous and the addition of the private pool turned out to be great for the family as we were able to make the most out of it by spending quality time together. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the rooms as the rooms were more spacious than what we expected.

The food was delicious and there were a wide range of options to choose from. The staff was very considerate and careful with their work. They behaved in a very friendly manner and made it a point to make everyone feel comfortable.

Given the location, as it was close to all the tourist attractions, the price that we paid was definitely worth it. I recommended it to all my friends and relatives to book a stay there and have a first-rate experience at Zanzibar.

We stayed at Moja Tuu in June'22 for 7 nights with my family, this was my 2nd visit. It was a marvellous stay!! The gardens & landscaping were even more mature and blossoming as compared to my last visit. I booked a 3 bedroom villa with a private infinity pool. The villas were very clean and well decorated rooms with fresh flowers. The living and dining areas were also very clean, and the villa was cleaned twice to thrice a day since we had travelled with kids. The linen and towels were soft & clean and we asked for extra towels which were availed to us at no extra cost, the mattress are just so perfect!. The infinity pool at the villa is facing the ocean, the ocean views are just out of this world, the beautiful sunrise\. My kids really enjoyed their time at this hotel, they have a new kids play area near the main pool which the kids loved it!There was always a hotel staff with the kids at the kids play area, the staff are extremely kind and helpful. The General Manager Mr.Amit Dhanda and the team goes out of their way to help, he helped us with our need to hire a car to drive around the island. He always kept checking that we were comfortable and needed anything. The food was delicious and fresh, they prepared Special meal for our kids, the local sea food is a must at this place, we booked a private dinner at our villa - a lobster and wine dinner, Amazing! There is free wi-fi also.Overall the stay was fantastic, would recommend it over and over again, mind you it is not a typical busy resort, it is a very private and quiet place, a retreat! Will come back soon, Keep up the great work and warm hospitality!!!

One would think that the best thing about Moja Tuu would be the stunning location. It is in fact the staff who make this stay unforgettable for me. I am well traveled but have never been so sincerely welcomed. So friendly, kind, enthusiastic and most of all proud of their service. So enjoyed every meal unique to Zanzibar. Fruit juices always freshly pressed. The housecleaning staff created art works with flowers on our beds daily and you might even be presented with a fresh bouquet from the gardener when you leave your villa in the morning. An amazing celebration was done for my son’s 21st birthday which made it unforgettable! A cake was baked, lights and decorations on the beach and we danced the night away. The tour business on the premises can also arrange all your trips and transport for you. The rooms are big and bathrooms even bigger. Beds are comfy and airconditioning works very well. We will most definitely be back!

I can only echo the comments by Nellus from October 23.

We arrived for a luxury 5-night stay and it gradually occurred that we were the only guests there. When we asked where the restaurants (the website boasts a number of them) were we were shown to a pretty depressing room near reception and told this was it! So we asked where the bar was (again mentioned on the website) only to be told it was the same room as the, ahem restaurant. We saw the building work being undertaken on the floor below and assumed it was perhaps the real restaurant being refurbished, but we'll never know.

We then asked for the menu; after about 20 minutes he returned and printed the spartan menu at reception. One might have concluded that he'd actually typed it after we requested it. The beer wasn't cold, the ancient wine bottle contained corked contents. We were truly mortified & couldn't imagine how we'd spend the next 5 days, but we complained to our travel agent who offered a very good alternative for the final 4 nights. Dinner was eaten in the totally silent room/restaurant, just the 2 of us as I've said. To be fair the food was OK, the staff very friendly.

But, as Nellus says, the beach is 1.5km away, reachable by timed transit. The central pool looked totally neglected, unusable & the shared pool at our room hadn't been cleaned for a while. I could go on but you get the picture. So very glad we cut & ran.

It felt like we were in two different hotels. The hotel clearly does not correspond to the declared level, it is very weak, it is not 4*, but 3 minus.
The main pool has not been cleaned for a long time, it is all overgrown with greenery, no one swims in it, the platform is old, the stairs to the beach have fallen apart, the sun loungers look like they are 20 years old.
Breakfast is also sad. There is no milk, no fruit, only eggs and everything is mixed up, and the cost is $15 per person.
All the plumbing in the room is bad and old. The pool in the villa also needs updating, as do the tiles on the terrace.
Everything is very neglected and sad.
The view from the villa is the only plus.

Hotel to avoid absolutely!
Nothing is wrong! We had booked for 5, bed for 4 my son spent the stay on a mattress on the floor… the excuse the hotel is full there is no more bed available and in addition we are told that we have to pay in addition !
The rooms are large but in a pitiful state. Stained toilet bowl, everything is patched up, salt water coming out of the taps, you beg for toilet paper... 2 shower towels for 3...
The swimming pool has no filtration, the deckchairs date from a distant era, the buffet is more than mediocre

It looks like an abandoned hotel that has been taken over by charlatans…
To avoid if you want to have a good vacation

Mojatuu hotel is the obly 1 that lets his "massai" security wonder about the bungalows and bang on my door at 7.00 because they saw a cleaner getting in to spray my room against insects ! Rooms are very far from teception at the intercom doesn't work. Boiler there but faulty and running water is intermitent. At the buffet, no choice for the late arrivals.
My advise: for the basics, you're ok. But dint expect more.

We spent fantastic 12 days in this great hotel (3 friends from Russia). We had our own villa with personal pool on the seaside. The Moja Tuu (means The Only One on swahili btw) is located in a remote location far from people and traffic with great nature sights nearby. The only disadvantage of the place we ve found (aside from a bit laggy WiFi) was the lack of a real beach nearby (the hotel beach is good only for enjoying the sun but not the ocean). However the hotel provides a free transfer to the great Kiwengwa beach 4 times daily (like 10 min drive) so it wasn’t really a problem. The AI food was great with daily seafood options like an octopus, fresh tuna and squid dishes. They also make a really good Mojito in the hotel bar. The service was outstanding - our villa was cleaned not even once but two times every day (morning and evening). The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Special thanks goes to our hotel host Mabula who had really put a lot of effort to make our stay comfortable. On behalf of me and my friends we definitely recommend Moja Tuu if you a re planning to visit Zanzibar!

My recent stay at Moja Tuu was nothing short of a remarkable experience.

Nestled within a tranquil and verdant expanse atop a coral reef, this establishment truly embodies the essence of a hidden gem.

The blend of luxurious amenities and a warm, homely atmosphere creates an unforgettable stay that seamlessly combines relaxation and excitement.

Here's my in-depth review of my time at Moja Tuu:

Idyllic Location: Moja Tuu's setting is a haven of serenity. The lush compound atop the coral reef offers a sense of seclusion while being immersed in the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Spacious Villas: The two bedroom villa options redefine space and comfort. These villas are generously proportioned, probably the largest I've encountered, allowing guests to spread out and truly relax.

Architectural Marvel: The villas themselves are a testament to architectural brilliance. They seamlessly blend with the natural environment, inviting guests to harmonize with the rhythm of sunrise, the allure of the sea, and the embrace of the forest.

Luxurious Amenities: Moja Tuu spares no effort in ensuring a luxurious stay. From well-appointed interiors to thoughtfully curated amenities, every aspect exudes opulence and comfort.

Home Away From Home: The establishment successfully bridges the gap between homely comfort and the excitement of a resort. Guests are greeted with a feeling of familiarity, making the experience more personal and inviting.

MojaTuu

A quaint hotel located in a lovely village called Kiwenga.

The Good:

From a service perspective, the staff at Moja Tuu are superb. They went all out to ensure that my family and I were well taken care off.

Meshack, the concierge, assisted us with booking tours and introduced us to Ben, a local tour operator with a heart of Gold. Thanks to Meshack and Ben, we got see and experience the best of Zanzibar. Ben provided a stellar service, I highly recommend him.

Service at Moja Tuu is wonderful. We had minor language barrier issues.

We stayed in a spacious 2 bedroom villa, with a beautiful pool overlooking the ocean. I think the decor in the villa could do with an upgrade. However, it is not completely outdated. What it lacks in modern style it makes up with expansive space and stunning ocean views.

Areas of improvement:

We found our pillows to be quite hard. To be fair though, we did not bring this to the hotels attention, we just made do.

We had a half board option (breakfast and lunch) meals were average.

Huge downside is that there are so many cats around the dining area and at the hotel in general. A lot of stay cats begging at meal times. This really bothered us.

I would have given this hotel 5/5 if it had more up to date amenities, better quality food and a better handle on the cat situation.

That said, we enjoyed our stay. We loved meeting the friendly staff at Moja Tuu and certainly consider this hotel to be good value for money.
