My wife and I stayed in Flame Cottage for six nights. It was a very late booking as Tanzania had been closed to tourist travel from Dubai until 29 January. We had no prior knowledge of this boutique hotel. We were very happy with the discovery of Flame Tree Cottages: the staff is charming and helpful at all times, the location at Nungwi happens to be among the best in terms of the cleanliness and size of the beach and the access to the sea where the influence of low/high tide is less important than elsewhere on the island. Before we booked we had seen some reviews that criticised the slow service in the restaurant. We found the service indeed to be slow sometimes but it never bothered us: if one comes to Zanzibar one presumably does not have plains or trains to catch so take it easy or as Zanzibarians would say: pole, pole (slowly , slowly). If you really want to be served quickly all you need to do is inform the kitchen some time before you intend to go in for dinner or lunch. A particularly attractive feature of Flame Tree Cottages is the fact that breakfast is served for each individual cottage on the covered terrace just outside each cottage. We found Flame Tree to be an excellent place for couples or families with young children. Those who seek disco music and the dancing etc that comes with it should not come to this quiet paradise. We liked our stay so much that we told the charming Omani/Scottish owners Seif and Elisabeth that we would write a negative review on Tripadvisor in an effort to preserve the current paradise like ambiance at Flame Tree!…
Flame Tree cottages is really a paradise. I stayed 4 nights in Flame Tree and after leaving and arriving at the east coast I regret already that I hadn't stayed longer. My room was specious, beautiful decorated and spotless clean. Food is among the best you can get in Zanzibar with a lot of vegetarian options, which is important for me and not everywhere available. Plenty of spaces you can relax in the lush garden, near the pool, in front of the beach or at your own big veranda with comfortable chairs. Owners and staff all are very friendly. They help you where needed and leave you on your own where wanted. Highly recommended and I will definitely be back there while in Zanzibar. Asanteni sana!!

Thank you! ________________________________________ Flame Tree Cottages Nungwi Fantastic, Calm, Friendly 822069634 Had the "Flame" bungalow just in front of the beach and bar. Very, very spacy and clean room and bath. Lot of power sockets (british style) but also one adapter available. Silent A/C and additional fan in the room. Minifridge and safe. On the terrace also a ceeling fan!!! 2 small bottles of water every day. The owner Elizabeth and Seif are absolutely nice. They having their own bungalow there. Had booked halfboard (got it nearly at same price than night only with breaskfast). Breakfast is served at own bungalows veranda. Not just to our delight. Insects would also be very enthusiastic ;-) Most time eggs and omelets are cold and the fruits are warm. Coffee is good. You can set together your own breakfast every day by filling a orderlist. However, the alternatives are running out at end of the week. Dinner is absolute excellent. Every days changing specialities. All in all, yes, it´s pricy. But more than worth the money. You can have a look at the animated all-inclusive tourist bunker nearby... then you know in Flame Tree Cottages you feel much better cared. We think, no, we are sure we`ll back.…
Our three day stay left us feeling like we were transported to a world away. The staff were so very attentive to our needs. The owner personally met us and ensured our stay was excellent. The rooms are spacious, the pool is beautiful and EVERY table on the beach has a view - the waves are just meters away. It's on a quiet part of the beach - perfect for a relaxing getaway on this stretch of paradise.
A completely relaxing getaway on Nungwi beach, away from the crowds and on the beach - highly recommended for solo travelers if you want to get away from the tourist groups. The restaurant and complimentary breakfast was also of the highest quality, and the owners and managers provide excellent local advice.
I had a really enjoyable and relaxing one-week stay at Flame Tree Cottages. The property is very picturesque, well-maintained and situated right beside the beach. The owners Elizabeth and Seif are very helpful (e.g. organising day trips with tour operators etc) and welcoming, and the staff are very friendly. Yoga with Cia in the morning is a brilliant way to start the day. Really nice pool to relax at and keep cool during the day. Overall, a great place to re-charge. Many thanks to all the team at Flame Tree Cottages
Paradise at its best!!! What an amazing stay we had at Flame Tree Cottages. All staff were just so hospitable throughout our 10 night stay. We stayed in Rose Cottage which was just beautiful - only a couple of steps from the gorgeous beach. We had a few evening meals which were just yummy.... Flame Tree is just perfect if you want to relax, and recharge your batteries. We loved having breakfast on our veranda, felt so romantic! We felt really safe here too which is important. The managers, Elizabeth and Seif are great hosts and run a fantastic team which makes your stay so enjoyable. Felt really sad to leave not just Flame Tree but Zanzibar itself. We will certainly be returning... thank you to everyone for making our stay so wonderful. We miss you all 😍
Absolutely blissful stay! The staff is so nice, always smiley and helpful. The property is stunning, with beautiful gardens and scenery - the pool is perfect too! We highly enjoyed the gardens and the surroundings, the beach is just there! The sea is so amazing and beautiful, a piece of heaven. Our room Lime was very nice, with water heater and a safe. The breakfast was served in our small terrasse, what a delight. Wifi worked excellent !!! The restaurant food is so good! And at good prices. Seriously, our stay was perfect in this place that I can only recommend and we would without a doubt stay here again. A couple of improvement points: 1. There is usually no one at the reception so it can be a tidbit tricky at times to get assistance. But assistance ultimately gets to you and its perfect. 2. A bit pricey in the end…
We stayed at Flame Tree Cottages for 12 days during January 2020. Our rooms were named Guava and Lime. Wonderful staff with Mr Kombo as a remarkable representative. He did always his best and cared about all customers well beeing. Exceeded our expectations every day!! Owner Mr Seif and his wife Elizabeth were very kind and the way they manage their hotel is top class. Cottages were clean and tidy, beds a bit on the hard side. Breakfast on the terrace in front of your cottage. (Be aware that somedays it takes roughly an hour to get your food.) Restaurant had a good choice of different cuisine and if asked they could always do something for the kids. Pool was clean, large and deep, needs a better pH and chlorine level since it was not clear. Garden was very neat and tranquil. A/C in rooms were effective. Turndown service with mosquito reppelent and mosqutio nets beeing taken down was also nice. Lovely sunsets by the resaturant. When heavy raining the road outside the hotel becomes flooded with no way to pass it without getting wet unless you are in a car. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone thinking about staying in Nungwi. As a matter of fact our friends already booked for autumn 2020!…
We stayed here one week with our 9 years old kid. The room was big and the beds very comfortable. Everything was working fine. Hot water, fun on the ceiling and air conditioning. Our porch had two armchairs and a table with other chairs. Breakfast was fantastic with a big variety of fruits, pancakes and eggs cooked in different styles. The pool was super clean and the sunbeds there very nice. Gardens were very well kept and the staff super friendly. Shower in the room bathroom might need some renovation. The rest was fantastic. We highly recommend this place to everyone.
