The bones are here in this hotel, but it needs some TLC. The building itself is a gem and has heaps of character and the location is excellent for exploring this area and having a foot in Urugay and a foot in Brazil in Chuy/Chui. The bathrooms are very old and it looks like they tried to paint the bath...

It looks, feels and smells like a state owned enterprise. Needs updating in all sectors, but still very beautiful and impressive building. The natural setting and the closeness to the old colonial fortification make this an ideal place to stop over when coming or going the route Montevideo/Porto Alegre(Brazil).

The Fortin San Miguel is a beautiful property, some 8 kms west of Chuy, along the Uruguay/Brazil border and about 1 kilometre for the historical fortress with the same name. Although it looks like a converted military building, the hotel was in fact purpose-built sometime in the 20th century. The grounds and surrounding areas are absolutely beautiful and the rooms...

We stayed one night, October 2, 2011. The room was simple. Clean bathrooms, but the beds could have been better. WIFI was sketchy. The dinner was good and reasonable with good wine. The breakfast was simple but good as well. The owner was very nice and helpful. I would stay here again. The other reviews mentioned bugs, we saw none....

Arrived at this three star hotel to find a heater that didn't work, plastic goblets in the room, sagging matresses that were terrible and hurt our backs, no hot water, and loads of creepy crawly insects everywhere. The first night we stayed there was a thunderstorm which cut the electricity so we had no lights for about 8 hours, which...

The Fortin is a very picturesque hotel in the Rocha area, very close to the Brazilian border. It has a kind of a medieval atmosphere in all of its ambients and a great view of the pampa area around it. The rooms are not at all impressive, but reasonably comfortable. Excellent meals - probably the best mashed potatoes I've ever...
