I have recently stayed in the mountains at Selva Negra for 4 nights and had a great stay. The staff was on the ball and the food was organic and really great. Noel even took the time to show Me the city of Matagalpa on his off time where he knew everyone. The tours of the property are worth doing...

On a trip around Nicaragua, we stayed here for 2 nights while exploring the area. The whole complex is just wonderful - from the hotel grounds and beautiful cafe and restaurant overlooking the lake, and to the amazing cloud forest around. We had time just to sit overlooking the lake as well as walks around the forest on their trails....

My partner & I stayed here for 3 days 2 nights. We took the bus from Jinotega bus from Matagalpa (every 30 min) & got off at Selva Negra. Walk up the hill 200m from the bus stop to the entrance, then 1.5 km hike in - pleasant walk along the road surrounded by coffee plants and trees. We took...

My wife and I have been visiting Nicaragua over the last few years, but this was our first time to get up north to the cloud forest. It was the highlight of our month long visit, a cool escape from the beaches and cities. Selva Negra is a jewel! The Kuhl family have really given back to the local community...

Amazing tour by our wonderful guide Manuel. Very thorough and educational even though we weren't there during the actual harvesting of the beans. Beautiful scenery. The coffee was delicious and so was the food!! Accommodating to allergies of dairy and eggs.

Our trip to Selva Negra was overall pleasant! Deep in the nature. We had a 4 nights stay, in the "hotel style" accomodation (Laguna). Rooms were big, bed super confortable, with nice shower. Bungalows were much more expensive and hotel was perfect, so if budget is important for you, you should totally for the hotel style. Restaurant from the place...

We started the morning with a tour of the coffee plantation and we were having such a nice experience we decided to stay for the night! We rented a cabana and went for a 4 km hike on their vast trail system. Everything from a gentle walk to difficult - a 700 foot elevation climb. Dinner at the restaurant was...

We came because we wanted to learn about how coffee is produced. Our local tour guide was excellent and the tour well organised and interesting. Our accommodation chalet was clean, fairly spacious and comfortable, but even though we were visiting in dry season, the dense surrounding vegetation and plant covered roof meant the room was a little musty and damp...

there are a growing number of "eco-resorts" throughout Central America. Selva Negra is the real deal. Started in the 1890's, this combination of biological reserve, organic coffee plantation and hotel/resort predates all of them by at least 30 years. Current owners Eddy and Mausi Kuhl are descendants of the original owner Otto Kuhl and the property has been in family...

My wife and I stayed at Selva Negra with 2 adult friends and our 7-month-old son for 2 nights in February. We loved the laid back environment with its animal life, cool temperatures, and unique approach to farming, cooking, and hospitality. The grounds were beautiful, with paved and wooded trails winding throughout. The hiking offered a wide variety of terrain,...
