Hotel Kangaroo is a great, reasonably priced hostel on a beautiful and secluded inlet on the lake about a 5-10 minute boost ride from the dock at Rio Dulce. It's a little inconvenient since you have to take the hotel boost to town to go anywhere, but it it is a wonderful, relaxing spot and much better than staying in...

This was one of the most unique hostels I've ever stayed in. The dorms are a good value but the mosquito nets needs to be replaced (lots of holes!). We stayed here for 2 nights, did the trip to Finca Paraiso (hot springs and waterfall), and the boat ride up to Rio Dulce; the owner of the hostel helped us...

I stayed here for about a week in October 2014. The owners Graciela and Gary are a lovely couple, extremely helpful, informative and care deeply about what they have built. The dorms are great value and comfortable, although the mosquito needs do need replacing. The showers are hot and clean. The food was good quality, but overly priced for this...

Río Dulce is kind of a busy, frantic city, but hotel kangaroo is a little slice of paradise tucked away in the mangroves. We just wrapped up two great nights here. Reasonable prices, good food, cheap beer and great ambiance. The owner, Gary, is friendly and helpful with recommending and helping you set up excursions or the next leg of...

I came on Christmas day so arrived with huge group that came for their Christmas lunch at restaurant. Once the group left, Gary, the owner sat down with guests in evening to help us plan our trip. We got a bungalow to ourself with one double bed and bunk bed with private bath. Things were quiet after group left so...

We checked into the Kangaroo a couple weeks ago, just after a spectacular river boat ride up the Rio Dulce, from Livingston. As we pulled in by boat, the first impression was wow what a comfy looking place to hang our head. After unpacking, we sat in the restaurant and enjoyed a delicious margarita and some equally delicious appetizers. As...

We went there because of all the great reviews and photos we saw online of the hotel. The owners are clearly unhappy. The internet wasn't working most of the time, I finally figured out that Gary doesn't want his wi-fi bill to be high so he simply cuts off the internet and pretend he doesn't know why it's not working....

This on-stilts hotel is located on a river off the Rio Dulce River. The Kangaroo Hotel is a great place to relax for a couple of days. The rooms are reasonably priced and the food in the restaurant excellent. We had a big two bed room that shared a beautiful hallway bath and sink. The rooms are so clean and...

located just off the main river, this is a little hidden oasis. The food was delicious and varied. A little pricier than other places we were in Guatemala, but still reasonable. The mexican food was the best we have had since leaving Mexico a couple of months ago. Rooms were clean, spacious, and well priced, though the only confusing part...

Peacefully located on the Rio Dulce Kangaroo Hotel is a good place to relax for a couple of days. Rooms are reasonably priced and the food in the restaurant good. There are places to visit near Rio Dulce and the hotel provides a free transfer to town at 8 30AM although it is necessary to pay to get back later....

“The bungalows were very nice if going as a couple I would definitely get one of those. I stayed in a single room, there are no windows just screens, they are still private but you will hear all the jungle noises and people.”
