I stayed here a long while back but currently trailing through my photos I thought I'd write a quick review. The owner Gary and his staff were great here. The food was top quality and beers at bar reasonable/well chilled. I stayed in dorm upstairs which has openings so Mosquito Nets are a must. Some were in need of repair... More

The kangaroo lodge was very good to us. They picked us up in the middle of a rainstorm and helped us get settled. All of our gear got soaked, they helped us with extra towels and sheets since our gear soaked the bed as we unpacked and surveyed the damage. There bungalow was perfect for us. They were very sweet... More

Hotel Kangaroo is beautifully located in a calm part of Rio Dulce. I travelled with my friend, and the first night we stayed in a bungalow for two. The toilet was nice and clean but lacks a door. The one Kningsize bed was comfortable but it was raining in a lot on the bed which made it uncomfortable to sleep.... More

Stayed here twice - once in the dorms: Spacious room at the top floor in the main house, a bit damaged mosquito covers, ok beds, fans to survive hot nights - once in the nicest bungalow with a king size bed, nice and pretty new bathroom (heads up: there's no door between the bathroom/WC and the bedroom). We enjoyed getting... More

I had only planned staying for 2 nights, but Gazza (Gary) kept telling me of great places (day trips) nearby, I stayed 3 nights. The other staff are very friendly and helpful. The dorm is spacious, the beds were very comfortable and bathrooms well maintained. Multicultural, great tasting, food at reasonable prices. Besides the recommended day trips there is plenty... Loved this hostel. The owners are very helpfull, very enthousiastic about the hot waterfalls and they were right! Lovely setting at the river, good food and good prices. It was great to wake up in the morning and sit at the lake watch all the birds. The dorm was really big and the toilet and bathroom was great!

I planned on spending two nights in Rio Dulce town and this hotel was recommended by Lonely Planet so I took a shot. Coming from Livingston, the boat trip to Rio Dulce was stunning and very picturesque. At the pier in Rio Dulce you will find many guys offering you hotels. Just let them know you want to go to... It's a really nice place in the middle of the mangrove, it's pretty cool to drink a beer by the river. We stayed there 2 nights, one in a dorm, one in a private room. Dorm is okay, but there were big holes in mosquito nets. And we had a really small room, but with a comfortable bed. The restaurant... More

We stayed here one night and it was lovely. Friendly helpfull staff and owner. Two cold showers upstairs, one warm shower downstairs. Great food. Set at a riverfront, 10 minutes by boat away from (too busy) Rio Dulce. Check in and check out boatrides are free.

The location is somewhere on the lake, and not in the city center - so you need to take a boat to get there. The arrival boat ride is free, and they have a free ride to Rio Dulce once a day, in other cases you need to pay for it. The staff is great, they will explain you everything... More

“The bungalows were very nice if going as a couple I would definitely get one of those. I stayed in a single room, there are no windows just screens, they are still private but you will hear all the jungle noises and people.”
