We visited Laikipia Wilderness Camp on the recommendation of a number of friends and the hospitality, guiding and location exceeded their reviews. Steve, Antonia and their team interact with their guests as extended family, and it abundantly clear that they look after their employees, and in return everyone working there did so as a team and with the upmost care and attention. The guides were second to none; knowledgeable, enthusiastic and professional without being commercial. We highly recommend this model of how safari should be done.

We - me, my wife and our 3 boys aged 15, 12 and 11 - had an amazing stay at this truly wonderful camp. The camp is perfectly located a the base of a rocky hill and is centred around the communal area where the wonderful food is prepared and served by the team - using where possible veg and herbs grown on site. The quality, variety and deliciousness of the food is amazing given the remote location. We had amazing game viewing - including several sightings of an incredibly rare black leopard as well as striped hyena, lions, 'normal' leopard, elephants and the amazing Grevy's Zebra and reticulated giraffe. The guides were all really knowledgable and approachable and enjoyed sharing their knowledge with us and the kids. On top of all this the ability to go fishing, swimming and diving kept the kids engaged and we will all remember the night fly camping under the stars forever. Finally, the one thing that, to me, made the experience really special and stand out from many others was the friendly atmosphere within the camp it really felt like being welcomed into a family and that makes the memories all the sweeter. would also note that one of the boys formed a strong attachment to a couple of the dogs in the camp and the team have been amazing at sending him clips of them to keep him updated on their progress. Thank you!

Laikipia Wilderness Camp is situated perfectly at the base of a rocky hill. There is a convenient bed swing at the top of the hill to take in 360 degree views, including Mt Kenya in the distance. Accommodations: The luxury tents are well appointed with king beds, with an enclosed open air bathroom at the back. Our bathroom and patio connected to a smaller tent with two full size beds, which was perfect for our boys 9 and 12. A day bed on the covered patio is the perfect spot to lounge away the hot hours of the afternoon. Food: The shared dining and lounge area have beautiful views. The kitchen is accommodating to dietary restrictions (we had vegetarians and non- red meat eaters in the group). The kitchen puts out the most superb cakes and deserts, and all the meals were tasty and enjoyed by all. Alcoholic drinks are included and run the gamut from beers and wines to liquor of all types. Service: The entire crew is very warm and inviting, and dote on guests every need and request. You can opt to have lunch or dinner in the bush. We made a ‘day of’ decision to sleep under the stars, and Steve (owner and trekker extraordinaire), Antonia (certified guide and hostess with the mostest) and the crew (exceptional from kitchen staff, to drivers and trekkers, to front of house ambassadors) were only too happy to accommodate. We were set up with roll away beds (very warm and comfy) at a very scenic spot on the ranch. They crew cooked up a delicious camp fire dinner and had plenty of kid and adult beverages for all the guests. Sleeping under the stars was an exceptional experience. Wildlife Viewing: The entire ranch teams with antelopes of varying types, elephants, buffalo, hippos, and giraffes. There are rare painted wild dogs in the area that the crew can track with a homing beacon. The pack happened to have migrated far off the ranch while we were there and so we were unable to spot them. Our highlight was spotting three leopards during a night game drive (not possible in National Parks), and the icing on the cake was one of these was a Black Leopard (very rare to spot). We had lions around the camp two of the three nights, and missed spotting them by a few minutes as they moved into some thickets we couldn’t get to. The entire crew, from Steve the owner, Antonia (certified guide), to Steve the driver are exceptional trackers and a wealth of knowledge regarding all the wildlife in the area. They have open Land Rovers, and guests can sit on the open roof bars for exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities. Conclusion: I grew up in Kenya, in the Nanyuki area. with a lot of experience in the wilderness this beautiful country offers. My stay at LWC is one of my top lifetime experiences. I highly recommend this camp and crew. PRO TIP: Grab lunch at La Rustique in Nanyuki either on the way to LWC, or on the way back. You will not be disappointed.

My time at Laikipia Wilderness Camp exceeded all expectations. I stayed 6 nights and wish I could have stayed longer. The camp has an intimate and family vibe. I loved the communal meals and hospitality shared by Steve, the owner, and the whole staff. The camp is in a beautiful area along a river and the game viewing is very unique. Seeing one of the area's black leopards was an experience beyond words and I count myself truly lucky for that privilege. As a wildlife photographer, I came out to look for the black leopard and was blown away by the experience, but I can also say that this is an extraordinary destination for the other activities on offer. Unforgettable experience. Thank you LWC!!

I attempted to visit Wilderness Camp a couple of times but had to cancel due to work/travel issues - when I finally succeeded in getting to Laikipia it was a wonderful experience. I’ve been to a lot of reserves/parks around Africa, and I had seen the posts (that many will have) on socials about black leopards and the wild dogs. I’ve wanted to see wild dogs for a while and of course the black leopards are very special. But I also love staying in unfenced, remote camps, hearing the bush at night, and I like being away from the super commercial camps. As I made my way to Wilderness I had a sense it was going to be special. It was about 1.5+ hours from Nanyuki air strip. It sounds a lot but it’s nice getting to see some more of Kenya from ground level and my taxi driver was great to talk to. My guide Simon then picked me up and was also lovely. The camp feels very remote. My safari tent was spacious, clean, a huge bed, a covered but partially open bathroom which I loved (and you of course have privacy). The staff were lovely throughout - really warm, helpful, attentive. The other guests had great stories and were interested in hearing from one another. It felt like I was very much around like-minded nature-loving camp mates. Some of them had been staying there 10+ days - I was only there 2 nights. The dining arrangements were so thoughtfully planned by the team. From dining in the camp, sat round the fire beforehand, to the bush dinner - an evening I really loved. It was great to be out with the team and the camp owner. Another day we had brunch overlooking a dam where there were various elephants swimming, splashing, ignoring us, But providing amazing photo opportunities, on the other side. One of my favourite things - probably my favourite actually! - is hearing lions calling at night. This happened both nights I was there. I hadn’t even expected to see - or hear - lions there. But did. Whilst I didn’t see the infamous black leopards or the wild dogs, I did have great leopard sightings during the day and at night, saw lions, striped hyena - looooooots of eles, grevys, eagles, antelope. If you can stay more than two nights then do. The only reason I didn’t is because I was working - there is a good WiFi signal in the WiFi hit, and I suspect if you have Safaricom you could have WiFi in other areas too (I was using another provider). I’m excited to get back to Wilderness and thank you / asante to the team for making me feel so at home.

Spent 4 days at Laikipia Wilderness Camp - an authentic African experience with 5 star warmth and hospitality. Superb wildlife abounds in this ruggedly beautiful part of Kenya. I will definitely be returning time and again. Loved this camp, it's people and it's ambience. Highly recommend!

Our 4 days at Laikipia Wilderness camp was wonderful experience which I highly recommend. Steve our host was a very knowledgeable tracker and wildlife expert. We walked, fly camped by the river with visiting leopard, lion and elephants in the night. We saw leopards close on 2 of the night drives and lots of elephant, giraffe, buffalo, antelope etc. the river had stopped flowing due to the drought but Steve and Mgambe gave us a wonderful experience to remember and couldn’t have been nicer. The tents were very comfortable, bug free and excellent. The food was delicious again & again and they catered effortlessly with a dairy allergy. Drinks and food on tap and delicious new cakes every day. Definitely worth the awful road to get there from Nanyuki & Nairobi. Just the experience I wanted with 7 of us and no other vehicles around chasing the animals like other parks. Walking in the wildlife was perfect

Very comfortable camp, stunning setting, delicious home cooked food, Ken the manager was brilliant and our guide Megumbi and his spotter Francis were so attentive and knowledgeable. We could not have had a better time, even spotting leopards and lions. Would highly recommend this camp, very relaxed atmosphere and attentive hosts.

What a fabulous place to wind down, to experience real Kenyan wildlife and meet amazing people, whilst also enjoying great hospitality. Steve and his boys are such wonderful hosts. Just a fabulous experience that we will one day repeat. Their knowledge, friendliness and openness to all was fabulous. If you want to try swimming in a river that needs to be checked for hippos first, or enjoy a bush walk, where elephants can appear round the corner, or a fabulous bush dinner or overnight camp in the open, then Laikipia Wilderness is your Place. Thanks for a fabulous start to our Kenyan vacation.

This is a very casual camp. We originally went for the Wild Dogs…no luck. We spent 4 nights here and enjoyed our time. The food was good particularly for my husband that eats meat. All and all I would say the food is good. I booked 2 days to have a private vehicle. Due to covid and occupancy I did not need to spend the extra 400.00 per day. I was disappointed that perhaps my agent should have advised we would have our own due to occupancy. We enjoyed our guides and they made the best out of the situation of no dogs. We had opportunities for elephants and giraffes in particular and enjoyed our photography with them.
