I stayed at the Doubletree Honlulu Hawaii from 12/31/2021 to 01/03/2022. Upon, my family and I entering the hotel, we noticed that the lobby chairs were all stained with a pungent odor. After an hour conversation about our reservation, with the clerk. He then charged my card for the entire stay to include the early check in fee, that total (approx) $2400 dollars. Then the clerk said “I’m unable to separate the early check-in fee from the booked reservation fees. After a conversation about me not wanting him mot to run my card again. Do to the fact that it ties up my card with pending transactions. The manage intervene and said he would manually separate the charges. We then went to the room and observed dirty rusty warehouse bay windows opened in the halls and there was no AC working. We entered the room with the AC working making a squeaky wheel sound. Upon, looking around the room the furniture was out dated and the carpet was dirty looking and outdated too. Since, it was very late (12am Hawaii time) and we had our 1 yo child with us, we tough it out and stayed. We woke in the morning to the squeaky AC and I called for room service. The clerk said they did not have room service due to Covid. But, room service is advertised on the Website. Because we had our 1 yo child, we rough it another day. I then noticed, that the room wasn’t cleaned and we needed fresh towels. So, I called and requested room service for cleaning and the clerk said she would schedule cleaning. We returned to the room and the room was not serviced and the same dirty towels were on the bathroom floor. I then called the clerk again and she said the cleaners were gone for the day and she would schedule cleaning for the next day. Now, my family and I are stuck with dirty towels and an uncleaned room. The next day we entered the lobby and it was a smell on feces in the lobby as walked to the attached restaurant and we did not eat breakfast. We returned to the hotel that evening and I decided to cancel the remainder of the stay. We were scheduled for 6 days. But, we only could tough out 3 days. I then called clerk before 12am of the third day to cancel booking and she told me that I would incur an early cancelation fee of one night stay. I then, requested to speak with a manger and the manger said “you will have to work that fee out with Booking.com”. The next morning, I spoke with the on duty clerk to get bill of the 3 night stay and she handed me a bill of $1700 and I ask to speak with the manger. But, no one was working at 8am on a Monday. Now, the whole reservation from Booking.com was $2193. I then went for a run and I received a call from the clerk and she said that my bill was incorrect. I then returned to the clerk and she gave me a bill for approx $1500 dollars. I then concurred with the bill and left the hotel. I then, booked the Hilton Hawaiian Hotel, where there are clean rooms with update to furniture, AC and room service for meals and room cleaning. Today 01/05/2022, I checked my credit card and I saw over $4900 of pending charges from the Doubletree hotel. …
We are veteran travelers and travel writers who return to this hotel for its ambiance, professional staff, quiet rooms away from the city bustle bit just a pleasant walk to Waikiki. Thebstaff can't do enough for guests. The rooms are spacious and meticulous. The art is unusually attractive for a mid-sized property. Management insists on friendliness and that trickles down. We love watching the birds out on the lanai, and hope to return to this welcoming, reasonably priced hotel. Variety of ethnic restaurants out the door. Chocolate chip cookies icing on the cake. Planning our fourth visit, as "lively senior travelers." Perfect fit, with spirit, elegance and no noisy partying. Guests all seem refined and respectful, another plus. We will be back again and again. Mahalo.
