At the Queen Kapiolani Hotel, guests have applauded the spotless rooms and excellent service, often highlighting the hotel's cleanliness and the staff's attentiveness. Its prime location is a hit, offering easy access to the beach and local attractions while providing a respite from the hustle of Waikiki. However, some visitors have noted that the value is marred by high costs for parking and dining. While the rooms boast impressive views and cleanliness, comments about their size and dated decor are not uncommon. Additionally, noise can be an issue for guests seeking tranquility.

We have recently returned from 8 nights in a Diamond Head view room with two Queen beds as a family of 4 (two adults and two children, aged 4 & 6). The room was tastefully decorated and was clean and tidy. The beds were comfortable and the view of Diamond Head was great. The lanais were not very inviting and were a bit disappointing. The air con unit for your room is on the lanai and blows warm air at you and is quite noisy. I would definitely recommend paying a bit extra to avoid a “studio” room which seem to be the subject of negative reviews. For the price we paid for our room compared to other hotels in Waikiki, overall we were satisfied with our room and the hotel.

The common areas were very nice (a very funky “retro” cool Hawaiian style) and the pool area has recently been refurbished and is a nice place to relax and enjoy the view of Diamond Head.

We had a few nice meals at the on-site restaurant, Deck. The location of the hotel is very convenient and good for families, being at the quieter end of the “strip” and right opposite the Zoo.

The hotel provided complementary water bottles to refill at the water station in the lobby which was appreciated. Unfortunately there was no tea, coffee, cups or tea spoons provided for hot drinks (but there was a jug in the room).

We enjoyed the lei making session in the lobby. It was something different and fun.

We would probably stay somewhere else next time, but overall enjoyed our stay.

The Queen Kapiolani is the place to stay, especially if you’re looking for temp quarters and are coming to Hawaii. I was here for 2.5 months and the experience here was world class. I’ve done a lot of traveling and I’ve had many great experiences from other big name chains like the Hyatt and Hilton, this hotel really surprised me with it’s beautifully updated, clean rooms and the unbridled level of professionalism by the staff.

I coordinated my stay with LYDIA, who made it easy to book a room. The hotel is pet 🐶 friendly, so those traveling with well trained dogs look no further. Also, the valet and bellmen were extremely helpful. I saw them everyday and always greeted with a warm smile, even when they were swamped with other guests. Also the coffee and friendly baristas at Knots Coffee Roasters made it easy to start the day.

If you need a night cap, then look no further because the Deck is the place to be for drinks or a good steak. Also, if you’re in need of a gym, but unsure where to go, the Queen Kapiolani has you covered with dumbbells, yoga studio, a weight machine, a Pilates-like system that easy to use of you take the time to read the simple instructions. The pool also provides for an easy, post workout swim too.

I can’t say enough about my stay here. It was worth it and it’s in a good location in Waikiki where you’re close enough to all the tourist action but far away from all the noise. The Queen Kapiolani really welcomes you with all the Aloha you ever ask for. Mahalo for everything QK!

The staff were friendly and the lobby well-appointed. The rooms were very basic but clean. Don't expect soap or even a bonnet de douche! Our view of Diamond Head was pleasant and we did not regret not having an ocean view. However, unless you are at the end of a corridor on the top floor expect to be overlooked. Valet parking is absurdly expensive at $50 per night. You can park in the zoo car park opposite for up to 4 hrs and then extend via your phone instead.

Most frustrating was the onsite restaurant, "The Deck". This is a concession and had its own unwavering strict policies whether you are a hotel guest or not. It's incredibly expensive and the staff were not very friendly or accommodating. Unless you have a dinner reservation do not expect to be able to sit and enjoy the views over a cocktail. Only dinner guests get that pleasure. You will be turfed out regardless of how busy/empty it is because of "reservations". We could not sit at the bar because we had kids with us.

And, because the restaurant is a concession you cannot get a drink from the bar and enjoy it elsewhere on the Hotel grounds unless you are willing to drink your $20 Mai Tai out of a cheap plastic cup. The restaurant has a policy of not allowing any of their glasses outside the restaurant - not even in the restaurant waiting area! There is no pool service and you are also not able to charge the bill to your room in the restaurant which is a pain in the arse when you're by the pool. In fact, none of the amenities, (e.g. the onsite coffee shop) extended the convenience of allowing the charge to our room.

This hotel was remodeled in 2018 so it really shows in how modern they try to make it. Despite the rooms being on the smaller side, and the hotel being shorter than other hotels, and with its long side facing Diamond head, so only a few rooms could even have a beach view. There's complimentary Hawaii Sun canned drinks upon check in. (They used to give out leis from what I heard.) The elevators all have card key security (swipe to unlock the elevator). Located literally across the street from the zoo, it is valet parking only! (But the valet damaged our luggage, and they only compensated us with food credit.) The major pluses are the water filtration system machine in the lobby and gym, two complimentary BPA-free water bottles in room, and a water boiler / heater . The wall chargers have USB-A ports for charging. There is one public microwave on the second floor, where the gym is. The gym is 24/7 and modern. There is a restaurant called Deck. (sic) that faces Diamond Head, and has decent views of sunset. The toiletries include a small bottle of mineral / reef safe sunscreen. There are no hotel slippers provided. There are many works of art throughout the hotel dedicated to "old" Hawaii including replicas of Duke Kahanamoku's surfboard, pictures of the old Queen and her family, which the hotel is named after. Pictures of other Hawaiian royalty and former owners of the hotel. Signs describing fascinating parts of Hawaii past like Maston family. The pool is a bit on the small side, and shares its space with aforementioned restaurant, Deck. There's many other included activities with the hotel such as free lei class, yoga class, surfing demonstrations, and a run club. At the valet, you can pick up beach towels (strangely, they don't seem to track them like other hotels), and beach chairs. The beach chairs have two pockets, one insulated and one not to store stuff and a backpack strap for easy carrying. The room has a rain umbrella There is an ABC store around the corner toward the Zoo and the tour bus pick up spot.

My family and I have been going to Oahu for decades and have always stayed in Ko O’lina because of our timeshare. Once back in college my husband and I stayed in Waikiki and have been avoiding the area ever since. By happenstance we needed a place to stay for 3 nights and the rate for this property was good and the pictures looked great. Was I apprehensive? Yes. Was I tempering my expectations? Yes. Did we love the property? Absolutely!

My husband and I both loved the room’s minimalist design and the amount of plugs that it provided. The partial ocean view just captivated me. We appreciated the welcome drink and the different themed nights. The fact that it was the far end of Kalakaua and away from most of the tourists, was a welcome advantage. Most of all, we appreciated the friendliness of the staff from the front desk folks, bellhop, bar tender and the valet guys. Our housekeeping lady was super nice too!

I would definitely stay here again when given the chance.

We recently hosted a six day workshop for 60+ people in the Leahi Room and Lanai at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel. The hotel is in a great location conveniently one block to the beach right at the Honolulu Zoo and Kapiolani Park. It is at the quiet end of Waikiki and close enough to all it has to offer, but an easy walking distance to escape up Kapahulu Avenue to some great local restaurants.
Our planning began a year out and it was a pleasure to work with Julie O. and Itzia B. in arranging a group stay for our attendees. They worked with us in arranging a competitive room rate, waived the resort fee, and a separate booking link to make it easy for our group to book by themselves. They were alway most responsive to anyone’s enquiries and keeping me up to date with our group's booking.
The Queen Kapiolani Hotel embodies the island feeling and Aloha spirit and was an excellent choice for us, and we only had positive comments from our group. I would highly recommend it for anyone visiting Honolulu!

The hotel is close to Waikiki Beach and has many restaurants nearby. In addition, the ballet parking service and room service were very good and helped with a comfortable Trips. Please note that there are guest laundry facilities in the hotel, so you can use the laundry room at a cheap price in the hotel.
The hotel's restaurant offers a wonderful restaurant with a view of Diamond Hard View. The cocktail is also delicious. Please try a mango-pin-cola not on the menu.
If you come back to Hawaii next time, I would highly recommend this hotel Recommendation

My family recently stayed at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel (twice!) while visiting Hawaii. Both stays were great, and I highly recommend staying at the Queen Kapiolani if you're looking for a hotel in the Waikiki area.
The hotel is located near the east end of Waikiki, near Queen's Beach. The location is perfect, because it's only a one-block walk to the beach, but the area is still a bit quieter than the middle of the craziness of Waikiki. We really enjoyed the purified water dispenser in the lobby, as well as the free lei-making class that the hotel offers.
The best thing about the hotel, however, is the staff. Everyone that we encountered at the hotel was friendly and helpful. When we arrived at the hotel a bit early after a long flight from Australia, the woman that worked at reception was kind enough to give us a room about 1.5 hours before the official check-in time of 3 PM.
The only complaints that I have would be related to the parking and the elevators. There were no parking spots available at the hotel while we were there, so we had to park across the street in the zoo parking lot. The zoo parking is really close to the hotel (maybe more convenient than the hotel's valet parking) and a bit cheaper than the hotel parking, but you have to use your cell phone to pay for additional time after 4 hours, and it isn't always fun to stay up waiting for the text when you've just gotten off of a long flight. Perhaps the hotel could allow people making reservations to reserve a parking spot in advance. Also, there are only 3 elevators in the lobby, which means that you'll wait a bit for an elevator during busy times (there are about 20 floors, with around 15 to 20 rooms on each floor). To be fair, there's not much that management can do about either of these issues at this point, and the inconveniences were minor compared to what we've experienced at many other hotels.
All in all, the Queen Kapiolani Hotel is a perfect place to stay near Waikiki, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

We traveled to Oahu for 6 days to celebrate our 25th anniversary and my husband's birthday. We loved our experience on the island, but probably the best part was our stay at Queen Kapiolani. The staff were friendly and helpful in every interaction. The location is fantastic, right on the far corner of Waikiki. so everything is walking distance, but also right next to the zoo with lots of trees and areas to walk that feel less urban. When we talk about returning to Hawaii, it's hard to imagine staying anywhere else because I think we would be disappointed. I have a down allergy and this was no problem for the hotel. I also have to eat gluten-free and there is a restaurant a block away (Lulu's) with a huge gluten-free menu. Honestly, we loved every minute of our trip and our comfortable room felt like home every time we returned from exploring. When we walked by all the other hotels we felt lucky we were staying at the Queen Kapiolani and have already recommended it to family and friends.
