Hotel's Favourite
This is one of my favourite hotels in recent memory. The rooms are huge and recently renovated with a vibrant/ mid century vibe. Housekeeping is amazing and have cleaned our room even when we didn’t expect them to as we left our room late in the day. The rooms are spotless. Every staff member we’ve encountered has been friendly and helpful. The kitchen is well stocked. Laundry room has multiple units for a very reasonable cost. Thoughtful things like a jug of cold water in fridge when we arrived and a laundry basket in the closet. The bathroom is dated but again spotless and well maintained and has plenty of space to put your things. I wouldn’t call this a fancy hotel but it’s so comfortable and clean and right in the middle of everything. Would 100% stay here again if lucky enough to return to Oahu.

We are staying as a family of three. We got the 1br suite. It's great to have a door that closes between the parents and kids on a vacation. The kitchen has helped us save not only food costs but also the hassle of waiting in line for a table. We did not anticipate how crowded Waikiki would be and as introverts, that kitchen has really saved us. The hotel is within walking distance to the beach.
Staff were all friendly and accommodating. We felt secure as far as COVID related concerns. During COVID you have to reserve the pool ahead of time and it's only one family at a time, which was actually really nice.
Pros
Lots of space (650 sq ft)
Affordable
Walkable to Waikiki beach
Quiet compared to other parts of Waikiki
Good social distancing protocols
Full kitchen
Door to separate bedroom and living area
Easy to get to by car
Free parking
Our suite has a jacuzzi tub
Resort fee is cheaper than some others
Cons
Older decor
Bathroom light makes an annoying sound (but we found a camping lantern that we have been using instead so it's fine)
Kitchen is minimally equipped - no seasonings, oil, one pot and pan and one spatula, no knives but there are eating dishes/utensils
Pool is small
Overall I'd say this is a great place to stay for a budget conscious family. It's low key, which we appreciate. If you come to Hawaii expecting to stay at your resort the whole time, you probably won't enjoy this place. But if you want to experience more than your hotel, it's a great option.

My daughter and I were here for 11 nights, and we LOVED our stay. The room has a full size fridge, a microwave, a two burner stove top, basic cooking implements, etc. For the price, the room is huge. Comfy beds, decent-sized balcony, lots of room to spread out on the floor if you have kids who want to play, etc. The laundry room is a convenient feature (tip: swipe your credit card VERY fast to make it work). The staff was exceptional. I had mentioned my daughter would love a birthday card, and they had a very thoughtful basket for her (anyone who can make a 16 year old smile and say more than once how nice the basket was is tops in my book). All the employees we interacted with were courteous and helpful, and housekeeping was on point. The location was pretty good, very close to the buses (there's a stop 4 minutes away that goes everywhere), maybe a 10 minute walk to the beach, and close to a lot of restaurants and shopping. One caveat: We were there over July 4 weekend, and it was super loud for a couple of those nights from parties in the neighborhood. So, it might be loud on holiday/special event weekends. Other than that, it was great. I can't comment on the pool, rooftop deck, or exercise room since we didn't use it, but, we'd definitely stay there again if we make it back to Honolulu.

Two blocks off the strip, next to the canal. More quiet than the beach or on Kuhio. Traffic in Waikiki is quite loud
Some find the rooms tacky, or outdated or funky. We loved it. $120 per night in Waikiki for a really large room ith full kitchen (fridge, stove, sink, dished, cutlery. A great view up into the mountains overlooking the canal. Small pool and private parking. Best of all the staff. Without going into the long story, Jay, the asst mgr. is THE BEST

My wife and I stayed a week. The hotel is older, I noted the 70's motif, but the staff was friendly and the location convenient. They offer 'free' parking on a first come/first serve basis just note most of the spots are super small. You definitely felt like it was a safe hotel with room cards required to access the elevators from every floor.
The location was very convenient for walking down to the tourist trap areas and for getting out of Honolulu. Honolulu is a busy city, with an 8 lane highway jammed with traffic, a large homeless problem, etc. But this is where all the hotels are, so use it as your base to get away from the city.
There was one staff member, and older gentleman with white hair, who walked past guests without wearing a mask, but otherwise they were good about it.

5 stars for a budget hotel? Well, it is still a budget hotel so if that isn’t your thing you should pass. We loved our stay and highly recommend to anyone wanting to spend more money on activities than hotel. The rooms have been substantially renovated since the photos here. New carpet, furniture, tile, fixtures. You can still tell this is a 70 year old budget place—the molding is beat up, the bath fan is deafening and the louver windows make a whining sound unless you crack them a little. There are just a lot of advantages for a price that you’d pay at a below average airport hotel back home. The staff is top notch friendly! The parking is free but get a subcompact. There’s a little kitchen and the rooms are mid-century large. Only 3 blocks to the best beach and less than that to lots of great restaurants and shopping. The views from the upper floors are dang good. We used the 200/night that we saved to splurge on beach umbrella reservations , a snorkel trip, shark diving, steak dinners etc.

My family and friends (6 adults) stayed at the Ilima Hotel on 10/22/22-10/27/22. We had a corner 2 bedroom suite with kitchen on the 5th floor. The suite had one room with a full size bed, 1 room with 2 twin beds, and a queen sofa bed in the living room. There was one bathroom. The hotel is conveniently located, ~1.5 blocks from the International Market and ~3.0 from the Royal Hawaiian Center. There are plenty of restaurants and stores in the area. The hotel has free parking. Spaces are limited and tight (we had a full size van), but we had no trouble finding a parking space each day (we tried to return to the hotel early!). Cups, plates, and utensils were provided as were a toaster and coffee maker. The kitchen had a good size fridge, stove and microwave. There was a dining table in the suite that had an annoying light fixture. It is huge and very low hanging which made it a bit dangerous for taller individuals. We constantly hit our heads on the sharp edge of the fixture! There was one TV in the suite, I believe it was a 50' or 52" model, but the reception was not good (stations kept getting pixelated). The faucet in the bathroom seemed too close to the edge of the sink, making it hard to use a washcloth. The shower was fine and hot water was not an issue. There is a good amount of counter space too. The ACs in the suite were very noisy but functional. The suite also had a balcony which was very relaxing. Wifi connection and speed was very good. Housekeeping was good, and we always had enough towels for all individuals in our party.
The price we paid for the suite was excellent and that and the location were the primary reasons we chose the Ilima. Despite the negatives mentioned above, we enjoyed our stay at the Ilima and would consider using it again when we return to Oahu in the future.

We just returned from a 10 night stay at the Ilima Hotel. Having visited Oahu over a dozen times in the past 25 years, we have rented rooms a t numerous hotels and airbnb condos in the past. We found an absolute gem at the Ilima, and will only stay there in the future! The rooms are extremely spacious for 4 adults - we had a 2 bed 1 bath with living room, kitchen, and lanai. Parking is a bit tight and limited, but it's free - thus saving approximately $40 - $50 per night in parking fees. Most importantly, the staff is AMAZING! So courteous and cheerful and helpful! Starting with Courtni in reservations, who always answered our email inquiries so promptly to Nicole and others at the front desk, who always had great suggestions for local out of the way shopping, etc. Definitely will return to the Ilima!

We spent there 4 nights and really liked it. The location is great. Tons of restaurants and shops within walking distance and stepping out of the hotels there’s a gorgeous view of the mountains. Staff is super nice, friendly and helpful! It’s not a huge hotel so it feels more like home, not a standoffish establishment like many others. The cleaning staff is very effective too—we found our rooms very clean and organized. The room was quite spacious and had a little kitchen with basic equipment that’s perfect to make breakfast or even lunch/dinner. There was a big table with chairs too. The beds were very comfy and big (one queen and one king bed). The room also had a balcony with a small table and two chairs. It looked to the city so in the morning/evening there’s a nice city view. Parking is free! It’s a first come first serve basis but we always found a spot.

Aloha priben201,
Thank you for your message. Parking is free of charge, however limited, and subject to a daily first come first serve basis. If we happen to not have any stalls available when you return, there are other parking lots nearby you can try such as Island Colony Hotel (approximately $40 per day), International Marketplace (approximately $60 per day), and the Hyatt Centric Hotel (approximately $45 per day). If you're able to park at any of these lots you would have to pay them directly.
Please advise if you have any other questions.
