We came to Hawaii for our nephew's graduation. Were staying at the Equus for the last few days of our trip. This place is smaller and more intimate than some of the other hotels in this area, but they charge a hidden service fee and parking fee when you get here which was a curve ball. Got breakfast downstairs at the Paniolo Lanai Bar and Cafe and ordered a latte and Julia drew a sloth on it!!! Made my day!! She's the best!!
It was the perfect hotel for us. Small, quaint and friendly. Nogiant lobby, or kids screaming at the pool. Just a bunch of amazing locals running a small hotel. The other travelers there were people concerned with their adventures and not interested in a high dollar sterile environment. We'll go back.
Our trip here was beyond fabulous! Amazing staff and stay. Lincoln was so helpful and friendly when we first arrived and gave great recommendations. So personable and made us feel very welcomed. Thanks!
Stayed at the Equus for one night on route to Melbourne from LA. Bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom and amenities are excellent. Room is on the smaller side and noise from the nearby road is quite loud. The sliding door to our balcony did not close properly, so it made the sound from outside even louder. We chose this hotel to be closer to the airport as we had a really early check out to get our flight back to Australia. The location of the hotel is quite far from main part of Waikiki, however it is in walking distance to Ala Moana Shopping Centre. Nice touch with a free cocktail at the bar - was delicious. Staff were very friendly, however some of the staff were interacting and being very casual with each other, which gave off an unprofessional vibe. If you stay here, note that there is no elevator to reception area.…
Two things were off with this stay, one was in control of the hotel, which to my was minor as long as they didn’t disturb it, which was the dust on the bathroom vent and the sliding patio doors. The other thing, which isn’t in their control is the street noise. While it’s typical noise once and awhile there will be people liking to rev their engine making it annoying. Talked with management and they will address it hopefully. It’s one of the last family hotels in Waikiki. Everyone was super friendly and had a great time.
My husband and I have stayed at the Equus 3 times over the last decade. Love it's charm, staff and location. The rooms are very clean and the beds are fabulous! We love the location to the mall and the nearby park, where we swam and enjoyed the beach each day. The road noise takes some getting used to, but that comes with the location. Never used the pool as it's shaded and we hear the water is really cold! We especially loved the little bar/cafe that's been added since our last visit. Sandy and Yulia were fabulous young ladies that greeted us daily and treated us like family. Miss them already! Hope to return to Hawaii again some day, and the Equus.
We were only there for one night but the room was clean and comfortable and the location was good. I left an item in the hotel room and Renee and Lincoln at the front desk have been very helpful getting it back :)
This is an older style hotel with throwback Hawaii charm. Everything was fine for a few night stay. This is a lower budget hotel so dont expect brand new super nice beds and bedding like a chain or 300 dollar a night hotel. Is you are looking to stay in Waikiki a few nights and want convenience and a place that you wont complain about, this will do. Pool is not fancy but is clean and private.
I’m a firm believer in family and this family ran hotel is exemplary. Collette and Sandra made me feel at ease right away. My situation is difficult but I just really enjoyed talking story with them. Lincoln is a charismatic and works with a sense of urgency. My daughter and I were reunited at that hotel and that makes it really special to me. I can’t remember his name but the valet who worked most evenings was great. Thanks I will never forget y’all.
fam & I recently moved to HI & found this cute hotel last minute. The whole staff was amazing. Kollett was so accommodating & worked w/ last minute changes. Fe helped feed my 4 yo @ 3am d/t time change. Keo helped w/ our luggages. The best staff!!
