Nestled on a more serene alternative to Waikiki, Kaimana Beach Hotel wins favor for its stunning beachfront vistas and easy access to local spots, with many guests applauding its inviting atmosphere that channels Hawaii's surf legacy. The hotel's cleanliness and friendly service frequently receive high marks, although opinions on room size and value show a divide, with some criticism pointing to the compactness and dated decor of the rooms. While the amenities like beach gear are well-received, the mandatory fees and service costs have garnered mixed reactions.

Kaimana beach hotel has been a favourite of ours for a number of years, we always stay in a corner ocean front room and adore the view so much we never close the curtains, these rooms have the added benefit of a wrap around balcony. The other reason we love this hotel so much is the beachfront location without the crowds that other beachfront hotels in Waikiki have to contend with. The room isn't huge and the bathroom is tiny however that is a concession we will tolerate for the location. The room is clean and appears to have had a recent refurbishment. Bathroom products are generous individual quality products.Kettle and fresh water delivered to the room as requested, there is a water station to refill the glass bottles near reception and an ice room on the 8th floor.Excellent housekeeping and the staff through out the hotel are great.
Since the hotel has come under new ownership we have noticed a few changes, they have brightened up the reception and bar area by restyling with a beachy ambience and nice artworks. All the older staff are gone and have been replaced with a very young workforce, they have also encouraged locals to dine in the restaurant and frequent the bar, not such a bad thing as it gives out an energetic vibrant vibe to these areas, the down side is that it is almost impossible to get a booking in Hau Tree restaurant either for lunch or dinner, the tables in the bar area are first in best dressed, there can be a lengthy wait at golden evening time.. the menu is the same in both areas, the food options are non-innovative and boring, also the kitchen closes at 3.30pm to 5pm each day and there is no where in the hotel including room service you can eat between those times. If you are looking for better food options close to the hotel you can pop next door to Arden restaurant in the Lotus hotel..the food there is a fusion of local tropical/asian and delicious.
If you love a locals beach with lots of kids and dogs and beautiful clean clear water then you won't be disappointed with this location and hotel, I know we will be back when next visiting Hawaii.

This is hands down the best spot in Waikiki. Located along the beach just enough away from the busy central area but close enough to walk to all the excitement. The views from the west facing rooms are some of the best sunset opportunities on island.

This is a small legacy property that has been refreshed with a charming and colorful nod to Hawaii’s golden age and surf culture in general. The lobby is a wonderful surprise of pops of color with a direct view to the beach. The bohemian design is joyful and welcoming- and so is the staff!

The same vibe is carried over to the rooms that are fun, eclectic and comfortable. Get the beach view rooms if available ,well worth it.

Point to note; there is no pool but the hotel will pride beach chairs for lounging on the sand just a few steps from the lobby.

We really liked the location of the hotel, on the beach at the quiet end of Waikiki, a 15 minute walk from the busy area. And with beautiful views, including of nearby Diamond Head.
Since we were there for more than 2 weeks, we wanted enough room to spread out, so chose an ocean view corner room, which is bigger than some of the other rooms, which looked quite narrow, with a balcony that went around both sides - overlooking Waikiki, where we could watch the Friday night fireworks, as well as the hotel beach. We could sit there comfortably and watch the world, including many rainbows, go by. Highly recommended.
Beach seats, umbrellas and towels were included in the mandatory extra daily charge for the Beach Club, as was a communal bottle of sun screen, wi fi, coffee and percolator, tea bags and kettle, bottles of still and/or sparkling water, and, oddly, maid service. Small fridge in the room, but no microwave.
Reminder: There is no swimming pool.
There is a gym on the property, but it is private and not included.
There is Sunset Provisions, which offered coffee, and very limited snacks, and was primarily a clothing store. But there is a convenience store on property, that is open long hours, and has good sandwiches and other snacks, and many other things you might need.
The Hau Tree restaurant, on site, was excellent. We had read that you needed to make advance reservations, but they actually accommodated hotel guests in the lounge whenever we asked, including on Valentine’s Day, and also offered room service. We often ate at the Barefoot Beach Cafe, which is a short walk away, and very good. There is music there many evenings, and hula dancing.
We were very sorry they were out of the guest booklet which another review described, as it was being reprinted, and they didn’t make copies of any the information for guests there in the interim.
We didn’t rent a car, in part because of the expensive parking charge, but didn’t miss it.
The hotel concierge recommended Kiko’s Tours when we asked about private tours of the island. We highly recommend her - see my review on trip advisor.

I have always enjoyed eating at the Hao Tree Restaurant but never stayed at the hotel before. It was a great experience. I love the hotel lobby; its very comfortable and furnished Hawaiian style. I started out in a smaller "city view" room which was very clean and comfortable and then splurged on an ocean view room my last 3 nights . It was worth it! Great view and ample lanai. We dined in the bar several nights and had breakfast a couple of times at the Hao Tree. So glad we knew to make reservations as the Hao Tree restaurant is very popular with guests and locals. All our meals were excellent and I especially enjoyed the french press kona coffee! Staff were very responsive and helpful putting up beach umbrellas and helping us get bikes, etc. I think this hotel is a real gem and a great location in Waikiki.

We just came back from amazing 5 day trip, used Costco Travel to book it.(At that time Costco had the best rates)We opted to upgrade to oceanfront room, wise choice! Our daughter and her friend had the City View room it was very small but nice and clean. The little balcony offered a peekaboo of the ocean, you have to walk outside and look for it.They didn't even know it was there until I pointed it out .
We loved the bar and enjoyed our cocktails (I recommend the espresso martini). We also made reservations for Hau Tree reservation, food and view was excellent!
I think some of the bad reviews are for rooms with views of parking lot.
This location was PERFECT for us.A 15-20 minute walk to center of Waikiki. We decided to walk to our hike at Diamond Head,it was 2.4 miles. We felt it was worth it to avoid the crazy traffic getting into the park.
I was worried my daughter and friend (both 21)would think their city room was too small and location not central enough for them (they enjoy bar scene)but they loved it and are dying to come back! They Uber'ed or walked everywhere. They stayed at Beachcomber Hotel last visit, had a great time but thought beach in Waikiki was crazy busy. They felt pampered having the Kaimana Beach steps away from our hotel and loved swimming next to the friendly seal who hangs out there.
Just a warning about Costco Travel-their website claims it offers a $100 food/beverage credit with hotel however when I asked hotel clerk they said it was not part of our package.( in process doing a chargeback of $100 with my Costco credit card)We look forward to coming back next year(but not with Costco lol)can't wait!

We stayed at the Kaimana on the last leg of a two week Oahu jaunt and had a mostly great stay.
The customer service here is second to none. We requested to add an extra night to our stay and the lovely lady on the phone not only booked us in but did everything in her power to keep us in the same room for the entire stay so we wouldn’t have to unpack so many times. We even got upgraded to the Park Wing 1 bedroom at no charge, though we offered to pay the difference.
The major issue was an ant problem. Luckily don’t think they bite and they did offer to move us, offered a free brunch, and waived many fees on our stay. But by then we had unpacked and packed so many times we just requested ant traps and were mostly fine. My husband was annoyed at having to kill 10-40 ants per day though and tying up any food opened or not in a large bag, camping style.

Pros:
Excellent quiet ac
Park wing 1 bedroom is huge with separate shower/bath, bedroom, living room
Beachfront onto nice local beach far from crazy Waikiki
Decent restaurant with beach view

Cons:
No elevator in park wing
Valet parking is only option at $40/day, and staff dour if not tipped each time
Noisy room facing parking lot (but slept fine with white noise app)

All in all would still recommend staying here. Maybe my second choice in town though.

I would never leave a review but considering how negative things were it’s best so others are aware before booking at this hotel.
From the moment we arrived no one had greeted us or assisted us at valet for over 15 minutes. Valet was present but ignored that we were there.
I had booked a 2 night stay and upgraded to an ocean view few days before check-in.
A complete waste of money as the hotel room was NOT as advertised online. Extremely small and dirty, the ocean view was not the view that was advertised online.
We were disappointed that we had spent all this money and was too late to go else where.
We received from desk clerk a 2 drink voucher to claim at the bar or sunset provisions and decided to go to the bar. Bartender older male was rude to us and wanted us to pay for the second cocktail until I had reminded him it was a 2 drink ticket. He scoffed to the other male bartender working that they had to give us another one.
Guest services throughout the stay were not very kind and had us feeling disappointed and wanting to check out. Hotel Location is great if you are wanting some quiet away from Waikiki. However, for the amount we paid for 2 nights you are better off staying at the Sheraton or Moana Surfrider for much better service/room.
Fortunately , the best part about our stay was Hau Tree Restaurant & our Lei Making Class. At Hau Tree you are paying for the view—food and service are okay.
Lei Making Class was incredible —Cara the one hosting the class was just amazing teaching and creating such a great welcoming atmosphere that we will always remember.
Overall, save your money and go else where if your wanting a great view & experience.

This is by far my favorite hotel to stay in near Diamond Head. It is oceanfront with a beautiful, swimmable Kaimana beach. The rooms are tastefully designed and the hotel offers conveniences like beach chairs, towels, and reef-safe sunscreen which all add to the comfort and experience here. Gentle trade winds and music surround the indoor-outdoor restaurant. Spirit of aloha lives strong at Kaimana hotel with gracious staff.

Very small rooms, staff Little available.
We asked several times to change rooms because it was extremely noisy, because of the air conditioner motors and who knows what else! Six nights in white. At our requests to change rooms we were always told it was complete. Too bad that every day new groups of tourists arrived to whom our room could be proposed and clean us In those where the unsuspecting new tourists would end up.
They preferred our daily and nightly complaints rather than helping us. Absolutely to avoid

My wife and I have stayed at the Kaimana Beach Hotel twice. On both visits we have been thoroughly impressed by the quality of service, location, and comfort the staff at the hotel provide. The hotel is located directly on a beach that is excellent for swimming and offers an opportunity to see endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals as well as sea turtles swim through its waters. It is an easy 15 mintue walk along the beach to all the restraunts and shopping that the Waikiki area offers, but the hotel is free of the traffic, congestion, and late night noise as it is located between a beautiful park and a quiet community. The staff are exceptionally friendly and always willing to help. We had access to towels, beach chairs, and umbrellas every time we went to the beach. They offer parking onsite through their valet who are always prompt and extremely professional. Honestly, we felt a bit spoiled. We love the Hau Tree restaurant which is a hidden gem in Honolulu dining. The brunch is fantastic. I wish I could have an Ube Cinnamon Roll for breakfast every morning. Also the coffee at Sunset Provisions is ver ygood. My wife loved the Vanilla Matcha Latte and I found the drip coffee to be a beam of sunshine in a cup. They offer a variety of rooms. My wife and I booked a Diamondhead view and woke up early every morning to watch the sunrise over the mountain. Some of the rooms are small, but you didnt travel all the way to Hawaii to sit in your hotel room, right? My brother stayed in a considerably larger room that included a gorgeous view of the city and the ocean. Take time to look at the variety of rooms offered on the hotel's website. Our friends who traveled with us and took our recommendation for the hotel are already planning their return. We love this hotel. We cannot wait to come back.

We stayed here in 2019, so I’m not sure if anything has changed since then, but there is a small convenience store next to the hotel Russell’s Convenience. But I believe it closes before 9pm. The restaurant in the hotel - Hau Tree, I think will also be closed by then. If you can, I would suggest picking something up on the way to the hotel.
