We loved this airy, well-decorated hotel. The lobby is open-air with the pool in the center, giving a very vacation-y feel. Each night we were here, live music played by the pool which was awesome. We also loved the complementary shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, so much so that we went home and bought a bottle of the same brand from Amazon (BYRD). The hotel provides free, reef-safe sunscreen, beach towels, and beach chairs and umbrellas depending on remaining availability. Those were lifesavers for enjoying Waikiki beach, which is a reasonable walk away through the touristy, highly commercialized streets of Waikiki. Our room also provided a beach bag for us to use during our stay and return at the end. Our favorite aspect of this hotel was definitely its location. Just a walk away were loads of restaurants with options from poke and acai bowls to the best udon any of us has ever had (Marrugame Udon- get there early and know that waiting in the fast-moving line is 1000% worth it!). I’d also recommend Duke’s Lane Market for their acai bowl and malasadas. The only downside of our stay here was that it was a bit cramped for the four of us in the room.…
Great rooms with lots of space after long active days. Live music by the pool is terrific every evening. The restaurant has the best food in the area. Breakfasts are super high quality, healthy options and tasty. Family style fish dinner at Mahina and Son's restaurant is a must. The staff are super helpful with planning your daily activities. Amenities are really terrific including the shampoo and conditioner provided, sunscreen at the pool, parking, beach towels and chairs. The coffee shop lattes are wonderful to wake up for.
This hotel has such a fun, casual vibe. At first I was a little concerned about fleas because this is a pet friendly hotel. But I found the room and facilities were very clean (and flea-free). Seeing all the dogs made my heart full. We got a free parking deal (offsite, a few blocks away). This is such a special perk because many Waikiki hotels charge anywhere from $30 - $60 a day for parking. Very accommodating staff too. I asked if there was a guest area to microwave food and a staff member sent up a microwave to our room. That was very convenient and appreciated.
On a recommendation from friends my wife and I stayed at Surfjack Hotel from Oct 29 to Nov 5/2022. Right from the front desk to the restaurant staff, the vibration was friendly and welcoming. Nicely and warmly decorated like someone took a lot of attention to finer points to do with colour and furniture style. Lots of design elements that gave a feeling of not sterile or high-rise hotel. This is a boutique hotel that is pet friendly. Saw lots of people walking their dogs. Pool is quite small and not many used it. But lots of seating around the pool where you could eat a meal. Suites were quite comfortable, and nice balcony quite roomy with small table and chairs. Restaurant is excellent. Breakfast - avocado with toast and optional poached egg was quite tasty. Dinners at the restaurant were all quite wonderful. Plates cost around $30 US, which seems reasonable until you convert into Canadian dollars, which has not fared well in exchange rate. Oh well, Hawaii is expensive and lousy Canadian dollar makes it worse. We also ate at a nice Thai restaurant a couple of doors down. And at a Poke bar on Lewers St, in centre of Waikiki scene. Walk to the beach was about 10-15 minutes, and while we could have borrowed chairs from the hotel, we chose to rent on the Waikiki beach for $35 for 5-6 hours of relaxation. Beach wasn't crowded. Waves were gentle enough. Water was refreshing. I rented a Turo car for 2 days and we drove around the island. We saw a surfing competition on the north part of the island, which was fun. The west side of Oahu is going through some drought while the north and eastern sides of the island are lush. Honolulu is a populous city with major highways running through it. Honolulu/Waikiki is quite polished/trendy - but with a chill vibe. People stroll out of expensive looking hotels in tank tops and flip flops. Cool. Lots of military folks around. Waikiki comes alive for Halloween celebration! Some people stay at Surfjack long-term I had heard, which might include military folks until they find a permanent place to live, after they have been relocated to Oahu. Use Go808Express airport shuttle service to get you to and from hotel, which is about 20 minutes from the airport. I made reservation online and paid $35 US for the trip into the city. Connecting with the driver at the airport was easy. And pick-up from Surfjack to the airport went off without a hitch also. We stopped off at Pineapple Plantation on the way to the north part of the island because we were passing by. It was a tourist trap and not worth our time. Found a neat shrimp truck along our route on north side of island. Got out of the car on our road travels a lot to see the sights. Roads in Oahu were easy to travel, 2 lane when you got outside Honolulu.…
Very average hotel. Room was dated with several things not working properly (e.g. shower door not water tight, wardrobe door not closing). Certainly clean and good location. Staff friendly but not particularly helpful with questions about local attractions. Room cleaning service very hit or miss, not done some days and often not until late afternoon. Probably wouldn't return considering the price.
My son and I stayred for Thanksgiving night. Really enjoyed the Surfjack. Service was attentive. Room is lovely. Location just off the hustle and bustle. I highly recommend and will return. The only negative is the hotel is dog friendly. I love dogs but we had some barkers on our floor. Their owners were out and the dogs were barking. That's not a great situation...
Just got back from a fantastic 6 night stay at the Surfjack. Rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. The mid-century modern vibe of the hotel is really cool. Lots of spots to sit around the pool or in the restaurant and enjoy the live music each evening. We ate at the restaurant and were really impressed with the meal. Rooms were serviced well each day. Great location to access all that Waikiki has to offer, and a great bus stop almost next door to get to Ala Moana, Diamond Head and Pearl Harbor.
I wanted to love this hotel - I like smaller, “boutique-style” hotels. I was drawn to the description of mid-century, as I grew up in the 60s in Honolulu. On the plus side - pricing was reasonable and it included parking. Our room (1 bedroom suite) was a generous size. Comfortable king bed, and thoughtfully decorated. Not really retro, imo. Restaurant was good. We ate 1 dinner and 1 happy hour at Makina and Sun. I like that tables are poolside and give a nice casual feel. Hotel location was good - close to epicenter of Waikiki activity but away from crazy busy Kalakaua. On the con side - although I was not expecting “ocean view”, our room looked directly at a parking garage. We were on the 2nd floor. The free parking (not the garage we looked at, unfortunately) was blocks (maybe 3), making it a bit inconvenient. This is a dog friendly hotel, which I don’t normally mind, but in this case there were a couple of dogs barking for hours in the afternoon (2 days in a row) - obviously left behind by their owners - while we were trying to rest. I notified the front staff - but I suppose there was little they could do. Breakfast starts at 8 which is a late start for us, so we had to struggle to find other earlier options - recommend The Laylow, a couple blocks away! So … with the volume of accommodations available in Waikiki, I think we will try a different location on our next visit.…
A super cute, and cozy boutique hotel located about 2 blocks away from the beach, and pretty much in the middle of Waikiki. Walking distance to everything. Very affordable, cute rooms, free morning coffee. The poolside bar and restaurant has delicious food and drinks and very reasonable prices! Aside from all that, Jon and his staff were super friendly and you can feel the Aloha spirit the moment you check in.
Exceptional service from check-in and check-out. Front desk staff were welcoming and knowledgeable. Hotel is in a perfect condition and amazing location. Had several meals that were so good and healthy. Cocktails were festive and fun! Can’t wait to come back soon!!
