This was our first time staying at an Inn instead of a name brand hotel. We were delighted. The servce was very personable from the continental breakfast to the most delicious cookies served in the afternoon. Our room was quiet from the other quests and quite spacious. The city noise could be heard but you are in a city...the heart...

Dear Jean H -- There's a first time for everything, and we are honored to be your first inn! It's really true that staying at a smaller, one-of-a-kind place makes for a more memorable experience. With 23 guestrooms, the Jailhouse isn't TOO small however -- as an inn, we are larger than a B&B. So while we are certainly friendly...

I too have recently stayed at the Jailhouse in the Gang Lockup room on the lower level. Accommodations were excellent! With the very comfortable living room pull-out sofa, and two bedrooms, three of us were able to have our own space and TVs. Room could easily accommodate 5 or 6. Th inn itself was perfect - location, location, location. Over...

Dear 801Dave -- We loved hosting you and your brothers -- so glad you enjoyed your time in historic Newport! The "Gang Lock-up" suite is sort of a secret (reserved only by phone), but once people know about it, they tend to request it again and again. As you said, it's on the lower level a.k.a. basement, but the foundation...

The "Gang Lock-Up," is a comfortable, quiet, 4-room mini-apartment located on the bottom floor of this former 18th century Jail. The nameplate on the door of our room: "Gang Lock-Up," serves to capture the character of this unique Newport B&B. Staff members are especially friendly and helpful. The Continental Breakfast offers a pleasant start to each day; the coffee is...

We made a reservation for 2 nights which was confirmed and paid over the phone. We were really excited because this was a special occasion, but our excitement didn't last for too long. A while later we received a call saying that they wouldn't honor our reservation because there was a 3 night minimum. When we made the reservation we...

Dear Nataliya P -- We are sincerely sorry for this misunderstanding and for your disappointment. Your review hit us very hard, as the whole team here at the Jailhouse takes great pride in providing friendly, helpful guest service at all times. As you know, when you called and reached our very sweet but also very new front desk associate during...

We stayed in the Inn after 5 days in New York. It's a pleasant 3 1/5 drive from NYC. The Jailhouse is only a 1 minute walk from the front. Set in a semi quiet location opposite a church. We had the top central bedroom which we paid extra for. The room was large with separate sitting room and bathroom....

Very interesting place, we really enjoyed our stay here. The Inn is located within walking distance to downtown Newport and the Water. they have a parking lot, continental breakfast and very clean comfortable rooms. Recommend it for a nice weekend getaway, with an interesting background/story.

Sharon R, Manager at Jailhouse Inn, responded to this review

Dear Arnie S - I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves and appreciated the Jailhouse's "interesting" background. It's not every day you get to stay in a historic jail dating back to 1772. I'm sure you'd agree it's MUCH more comfortable now than it probably was back then ;) We hope to see you again in downtown Newport someday. Meanwhile, THANK YOU...

We only stayed for one night but what a great place. The location is terrific, you don't need your car. The room was cozy and the bed was very comfy. The staff was really friendly and the morning breakfast, while not elaborate, was wonderful. I will definitely be back.

Dear Suzanne H: Thank you for sharing your impressions of the Jailhouse. I am so glad you and your friends enjoyed the location, comfort, and friendly staff. We LOVE our setting in the heart of Newport and the fact that we can offer free on-site parking to our guests. Free continental breakfast and wifi, too. Those things really add up...

Jailhouse Inn is in a really good location. Close to all the sights of Newport. Rooms were comfortable, clean & spacious. Be aware as it's an old building if you are on levels 1 or 2 you may hear plenty of noise from above. Parking was fine. Breakfast was good, plenty of options. Fruit was really great. Snacks/tea/coffee available after...

Sharon R, Manager at Jailhouse Inn, responded to this review

Dear KreativeKaz76 - Thank you for staying with us and for sharing so much helpful information with others (including photos!). Yes, as you mentioned, our most quiet rooms are on the third floor. We call those our "premier" rooms. They are also our largest and most architecturally interesting with exposed wooden beams, skylights and/or dormers. As it turns out, you...

We recently spent three nights at the jailhouse inn and arrived on a very wet miserable day. We arrived well before check in but we very warmly received and given access to our room.
