My friends and I were hoping to find a way into Sequoia National Forest and were unsuccessful, but we found this really cool little Restaurant and Lodge. We stopped by to grab a bite to eat. We were allowed to eat out on the patio next to the river. We were mesmerized by the beautiful mountain views and the sound of running water. We were loath to leave. The waitress approached us and informed us that rooms were available and they would offer us a whole cabin for half price. The cabin was rustic with well worn and comfortable furnishings and the patio had plenty of outdoor seating. We made a run to the local grocery store for some snacks and alcohol. We spent the evening on the patio listening to the sounds of nature, watching the cattle graze in the high mountains and conversed about the craziness of life.
We really enjoyed our stay and the food at the restaurant was delicious. We had lunch and breakfast at there and both meals were fresh and plentiful.
We really enjoyed our stay and will stop by again whenever we are in the area in the future. We really appreciated the hospitality and friendly service!

Made reservations here for a one night stay to visit the Sequoias. The views from the back porch are gorgeous, but that’s the only redeeming factor. Food was extremely overpriced. Rooms are in desperate need of renovation. There was dust and cobwebs on the fan, behind the TV, etc. TV remote didn’t work. Random toothpick was in the nightstand? I worry about the overall cleanliness of this place. In addition, the door to our room didn’t seal at the bottom and lets in a large draft (can be bad in the winter time when we are staying). Overall for the price of what we payed, this place is a no from me. They should be charging closer to $100-150 a night instead. Wouldn’t stay here again.

We stayed in the hotel next door but had dinner at this establishment. The place is ideally located by the river with a magnificent terrace! The staff is pleasant. The prices are a little high but 3 minutes from the entrance to the Sequoia Park, in a pleasant environment, it's not shocking. We particularly enjoyed the Séquoia Burger and the fries! I highly recommend

Enjoyed our recent stay. Great value at $99 per night. And with the big hills of Sequoia National Park, it was great starting out with a full charge thanks to the two onsite Tesla destination chargers. We also enjoyed the restaurant. We drank in the bar upon arrival and ate lunch before we departed the next day. Great food and river views. We’ll definitely stay here again.

the chains service is excellent, but they are not correct as they write that the purchase service is 131 dollars and the rental is 35 dollars. We rented the chains for 4 hours and they credited us 131 dollars and only after several days did they give us back 31 dollars. The rental service therefore cost 100 dollars and not 35 as written.

Stayed at the Gateway Lodge in room 1 thinking I would have had some access to the river other than the Restaurant, but NO! The room I picked was the closest to the hiway. It was not so bad except for the antiqu ated mini fridge & the hard bed, the TV was maybe 28" but I was able to hook up my laptop & watch Netflix. The Wifi was descent that is why I am giving them 2 stars instead of 1. Bang for the buck $$$$ it was the worse I've ever experienced. I would not ever stay there again, a lesson well learned. $199 on weekdays & $249 on weekends? Who are you kidding?

Total disappointment. Stayed one night, family of 4. Very small room with 2 beds whose mattresses were very uncomfortable as well as pillows. Very unclean. Coffee maker and unemptied garbage can. Dirty place. Well located for access to Sequoia National Park, but there are other hotels nearby whose quality is certainly superior. Restaurant ok but expensive for what we serve there. Nice staff.

This restaurant and lodge makes you want to come back. I did just that, 6 weeks later. The owner and staff are exceptionally friendly and eager to please. The food is excellent and the views are even better. Stayed in room 6 (this trip) and room 7 last time. Both offer great views of the river and surrounding mountains.
Thank you Glenn, Susan, Kyle, Ruthie and Lauren!

We stayed here 3 nights in June. I have to say, if all you are looking for is a place to sleep at night, it is ok. They have a beautiful spot on the river, but you can only enjoy it if you stay in the riverfront cabin or go to their overpriced restaurant. There is no safe spot to even get down to the river. The view from all the other rooms is of the back of the restaurant, dumpsters, trash cans, overturned outdoor heaters and the dirt parking lot. Our room was pretty dirty and not sure of the renovation they spoke of. Also, at check in you are actually in their bar with inebriated people staring at you. Just not comfortable. Its a shame because it could be so nice if they would just clean it up. I'v got an idea, have the ten employees that were out there smoking all the time do some work when the restaurant isn't busy?

If the problem was only the unreasonable price paid for a small, old, humid noisy and stinky room the mark had been a little bit more than zero.
Starting from the beginning: moquette on the floor, probably put in the early 80s. Air conditioner incredibly noisy and inefficient (temperature outside 39 degree Celsius..). Blankets old and stinky, sheets looking worn and not very clean. Only one electrical outlet far from the beds..
But the pearl comes later..
Early morning going to the restaurant to have our breakfast that was not included but available for 7,99$ per person as clearly stated in my reservation confirmation, the waitress gave us the menu and when we said her we were guests of the lodge and we would like to have the breakfast at the agreed price, we discovered nobody recognise this rate (they told us it was used in the past but not anymore). She suggest us a discount of 10% but I insisted to apply the agreed rate; she went to talk to somebody, somewhere, and she cane back said ok we can do it just for you. We ordered and after eating we asked the check.. that was 36$ instead of 24; after my complaints the waitress called the “manager” who told me the price of 7,99$ is for the food only while beverages are apart.. I Insisted and the answer had been “please pay and return in the afternoon when the boss is back”. Of course I came back, same story, no chance to have a reasonable discussion, he said in USA the rate for breakfast is for food only.. I remain astonished and then he asked me what I “wanted”, I answered to pay 24$ as written in my reservation instead of 36, so he took 12$ and thrown them on the counter.. wow what a class, what an education..

Response from Glenn M, General Manager at Gateway Restaurant & Lodge
Responded 7 Nov 2019
MMarzo, thank you for taking the time to leave us a detailed review and we're sorry you felt that your experience with us did not live up to your expectations. This historic building was built in 1940 but the upkeep has always been maintained. Due to when the building was built, there are limitations-- such as the one electrical outlet. We have daily maid service so the experience with the "worn and stinky" bedsheets is absolutely not indicative of the typical customer experience. As far as the room, we chose the carpet because it has a mountainous feel so it purposely was chosen to represent the environment. We pride ourselves on our restaurant and staff so I would love the opportunity to prove to you that's not the standard we set on your next visit.
