I loved my stay at the Hawthorne. It's an older hotel, but they keep it meticulously clean. Rooms can be on the small side, but I was traveling alone and didn't mind. Every staff member I encountered was fantastic. They have two restaurants--Nathaniel's for breakfast and the Taverne for lunch and dinner. Food is priced a bit high, as you find in a nicer hotel. But it's consistently excellent. I ate breakfasts there, meals, and room service. All was well presented and delicious. Parking is easy to handle. The location is central. I visited Salem during the week, when the town was a little quieter, and the hotel was generally quiet.
It started off a bit confusing, however the staff were very patient and understanding. The level of professionalism is hard to find these days. Everything was clean and bright even thou our room was an older one. The restaurant was extremely busy. I sat at the bar and had wonderful service, food was good but nothing to race back for. Breakfast was great!
Where do I begin!!! first Josh is the most pleasant and helpful person at this hotel second patrick is the best manager... what a pleasure experience so caring and helpful from start to finish I recommend this hotel with 5 stars.. clean rooms ,delicious food and walking to all shops and museums. This is a must hotel for no worries... thank you Josh and Patrick for being caring and making my stay so relaxing.
Everything about this place was excellent! There were modern touches that complemented the historical character of the building. It was very clean, quiet, and comfortable. We were on the front of the building with a busy street, but we didn’t hear any street noise when the windows were closed. The location was perfect, very close to all the “must sees.” We were able to park when we first arrived on Tuesday and didn’t move the car until we left Salem on Friday afternoon, so we never had to worry about finding parking. All team members we encountered were friendly and helpful.
I like the Hawthorne. My first stay was almost fifty years ago. I am not interested in badmouthing them, but I feel this must be reported. On arriving at our guestroom, the room temperature was 65 degrees. It was a cold, rainy day. I set the thermostat to 75 degrees and we went out. When we returned to go to bed, the room temperature was still 65 degrees. I called the front desk for help and was told by the clerk, "There is nothing we can do." Later, responding to the Hotel's requested survey, I related how cold and uncomfortable the room was. I never even received an apology. This being the most uncomfortable night I've ever spent in a hotel, it is unlikely we will return.
This hotel oozes authenticity and history. Loved our stay so much! The restaurant was wonderful.... loved our breakfast! We stayed for two nights and our room was awesome. The most comfortable bed in the heart of this city.
Hotel is very charming. Beds and pillows are so comfortable! The rooms we stayed in was very nice. The hotel is in a great location to walk to everything and the parking was wonderful. Only downfall there is no mini fridge (can request one but they only have a limited amount) or microwave in the room. Highly recommend.
I both stayed in the hotel, attended an event, and went to the bar. The room was great. The bed was comfortable with great sheets. The hotel is historic, so the rooms are smaller and different which is charming. The bar was very nice. Good drinks and service. It was at the event that the hotel really shined. I have a food allergy and they were amazing! I have never had staff be so accommodating. The didn’t just tell me which things I could eat from the buffet, they provided alternative dishes. They acted glad to help. I felt free to enjoy my day without worrying food which was awesome.
I stayed at the Hawthorne with my husband on our 20th anniversary road trip to Massachusetts from Florida and we were looking forward to it. I could not have been more let down. The staff looked at us like we were from another planet and the front desk person was bothered that we asked to store our bags, like we were putting him out. We encountered several staff members and not one of them smiled or said hello. Very off-putting. The bed was hard as stone. I barely slept the 3 nights we were there. The room is pretty big but that doesn't matter because there is no coffee maker, refrigerator or microwave in the room. So it was a table and 1 chair taking up minimal space. Nathaniel's Restaurant was a breath of fresh air after all this...the staff was nice and attentive and there was a pianist playing throughout our meal. Aside from that, for the money we paid, we did not get the experience I was hoping for at the Hawthorne. …
Had a wonderful two night stay at the Hawthorne Hotel. It is beautiful, and I loved the historic feel with modern amenities. Our room on the 5th floor even had a peekaboo view of the harbor. The best part of our stay was interacting with all the staff. Everyone we encountered was attentive, accommodating and cheerful. Did not expect that level of service at this price point. Easy parking. Free coffee and lemonade in the lobby, and bottled water available anytime at the front desk. Rooms were immaculate. Make sure to read up on the history of the hotel. It is fascinating.
