Spent 7 day 6 nights with 3 teenagers who loved it so much that we were planning the next trip on the way home to Kansas. Other campers were so nice and helpful to one another. But we also had privacy. Only complaint was the crow that was in our tree every morning at 5am lol. Going again in 2017!!!!

This campground is on the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park. It has very nice bathrooms that include hot showers. The grounds are next to a road that is in RMNP and lead you up to a steep hike thru forest and past a creek. We saw a porcupine on that road. I would recommend a campsite on the edge...

This was a great campground and very family friendly. We felt like we were in the mountains, but still close to town. The campground has a section for tents and small trailers and then a separate place for the RV's. We stayed on the tent side and were very pleased about the quiet and friendly neighbors. We are looking forward...

A large gathering of family met at this location from three different states. We loved that it could accommodate RV's and tents. We booked 8 different sites for up to four nights. We booked early (April 2016) for July 2016. At that time there was little left to pick from. This is a great campground and books up fast. The...

Stayed here for 5 nights. 3 of those nights were at one campsite and 2 were at another. We loved both places. There is just enough shade. The bathrooms were clean. Staff was friendly. Great place to go!

Helpful staff, great hiking and wildlife, other campers were friendly, good for kids. We tent camped with not much grass on our lot, but that seems normal in the area in mid summer. The trails nearby led to Sprague Lake, which is tough in the beginning, but great once you push through the first 0.5 miles.

Camping spaces are well spaced and clean. Bathrooms are also clean with plenty of hot water for showers. Location is excellent with lots of trailheads to begin hiking upon arrival. Just a short drive from the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Forest and located outside of Estes, you get the atmosphere of camping in the wild. East Portal can be...

We are a family with small children & this campground was perfect for us. The sites are fairly close together and there is not much privacy. There are mtn views and nice amenities like showers, a playground, & wood, ice, & a few other necessities available on site. I would suggest the sites farthest back from the road/office if you...

We had a great time during our visit, and east portal made a great Basecamp. The bathrooms were clean, and even though the sites are close together, nobody bothered us. (Except one noisy crow!) It's easy to get to and far enough away from the crowds to let you enjoy nature. 55 was the site we were in and it...

My wife and I camped here six nights of an anniversary trip to hike RMNP and to enjoy Estes Park. We enjoyed our stay thanks to realistic expectations provided by other reviews. The good: great location, convenient to RMNP and Estes Park, but isolated enough to not feel close to town. Beautiful area, with lots of trees and great views....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
So close, yet feels so far away from the hustle and bustle of Estes Park. This very popular campground is located at an elevation of 8,300 feet at the end of a beautiful road just west of town. There are wonderful views of the snow covered peaks in Rocky Mountain National Park and access to the East Portal Reservoir which has ample opportunities for fishing. This double loop campground offers shady sites suitable for tenters and campers with small RVs and trailers shorter than 24 feet in length. It is especially well-suited for families and outdoor enthusiasts looking to explore nearby nature and trails in Rocky Mountain National Park. Sites at this campground open up to views of Rocky Mountain National Park and starry nighttime skies. A mature blend of ponderosa and lodgepole pines interspersed with groves of aspens makes it a wonderful home away from home. It is an ideal setting for guests seeking recreation and relaxation. The camping season runs from May 15th - October 3rd. ... more   less
