We stayed in the main hotel, and our room, although rather small (because there was a second bed, had all the facilities we needed, there was even a balcony. However, the bed was very "bouncy", you couldn't move without waking your partner. Also it was noisy, we could hear people talking in the corridors and the building creaked very loudly....

We had a most enjoyable overnight stay before our 4 day tramp. The double room was very comfy, cosy, and clean, with a little deck and delightful outlook. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant - my pizza was divine and there was so much of it I took the left overs on the tramp with me! My husband's chicken burger...

We recently stayed in chalet number 4 for 3 nights. The condition of the chalet was shocking. The bathroom door had had a fire which was obviously started from the fan which was burned out and nothing had been done to repair these. The bathroom floor was cracked and worn and rotting in front of the shower. The shower windowsill...

Kitchen and bathroom are pretty basic, but the beds are comfortable and clean and the amazing view from the deck area was worth the price alone. Didn't spend any time in the main hotel as we were in a chalet. Serviceable kitchen, hot shower and tv but we were there for the national park. Lots of great walks in the...

We stayed in the chalets for two nights. (Chalet 3 and chalet 5). I wasn't pleased at all with the physical condition of the chalets. The curtains in chalet 5 was covered in black mould and the extractor fan in the shower was filthy. The carpet was ripped and the chalets are overdue for a revamp. The TV remote did...

We stayed in room 618, next to the communal bathroom. Not only did we have to listen to people using the toilets but the flushing caused the water pipes to make so much noise it was impossible to sleep, and we had ear plugs in! The staff were in no way sympathetic to the fact they rented a room which...

Great location for a hotel, and much more relaxed than others locally. Agree with others that it has a slightly dated feel, but staff were very friendly and helpful and the room large enough for the three of us, and comfortable. Food reasonably priced considering where it is, views amazing - so lucky to have blue sky days and snow...

Room a bit dated. At first glance I thought my night's sleep would be less than satisfying but I slept well. The food was very good and the staff was accommodating. Hiking just outside your door. Lower level room had a very nice group patio area and individual patio areas. Perfect rooms for a group traveling together BUT if alone...

We booked a two night stay hoping to do the Tongariro Crossing however the weather had other ideas. Apparently the view from this hotel is amazing however the mist, rain and snow descended and we could barely see ten metres ahead! We stayed in the backpacker side of the lodge in a private double. The room was pretty small, basic...

Please get Tongariro Crossing Package. It's $400 for 2 nights that include the transportation for the hike, breakfast, lunch for the hike, then $40 off dinner! We had Room #5 Chalet, all to ourselves. The view was just as good as the neighbor hotel: Cheatau. They were so courteous, helped me setting up Wi Fi, only $5. That's not bad...

Skotel was established in the early 60s by a group of keen skiers who wanted the convenience of accommodation close to the ski-fields but more comfort than the ski lodges of that time. Skotel has maintained its friendly informal atmosphere but now provides Qualmark three star accommodation and the exciting cuisine experiences of our new dinner menu. ... more   less
