Detailed Reviews
I stayed here in September for four nights with my family and enjoyed my stay so much that I went back in October for a couple more days of fun and relaxation. I love many things about this beachfront hotel, but one of my favorites is that you can take in the ocean view while swimming in the pool, soaking in the hot tub, or just sitting in the restaurant enjoying a delicious meal or cocktail - it's simply lovely. I could hear the waves crashing from my bedroom, which brought a sense of tranquility that I know is what brought me back for more!
I highly recommend eating at the restaurant if you stay here or even if you don't stay overnight but want a great meal with a view. A piece of advice though, if you choose to eat here, bring your appetite because the portions are BIG and the food is superb. The menu alone was enough to lure me in with its European-style Fish & Chips (my personal favorite) and even some of the traditional Ecuadorian dishes but made with a twist. The chef also accommodated my dietary needs, which is always greatly appreciated! Whatever you order, I'm confident you will not be disappointed.
I can't speak highly enough about this hotel - from the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms to the friendly service and attentiveness of the staff. They were nothing short of exceptional. I'm already looking forward to when I can go back!

The absolute best getaway on the coast.
My cabin was super clean and comfortable with lots of grab bars for this old gal. The sound of the waves is all you hear.
Food? OMG!!! The food is nothing short of exceptional. Owner, Lori, insures every plate comes to the table full of flavor and love.
The grounds are like a tropical paradise; plants, trees, birds.
All this, and pet friendly, too!

I LOVE Tsafiki! It’s our favourite place to go on the coast! Lori is the best of the best! Excellent service & delicious food. Her kitchen never disappoints. The menu has a huge selection of dishes, and flavours to satisfy any appetite!
We love that there is beach access with comfy hammocks as well as an awesome POOL & Hot tub ( actually hot)
This is the perfect place to choose if you want to explore the surrounding areas, beautiful beaches, snorkelling , diving, horseback riding and have a quiet & cozy place to come home to for rest and relaxation!
It’s also wonderful for a weekend or day trip!

If you want to feel you are on a South Pacific island stay at Tsafiji cabins in las Tunes near puerto Lopez. The service and food are extraordinary with a great selection and large portions. Wonderful staff supervised by owner lori and great cocktails. They have a lovely pool, hot tub, beach with a section of hammocks and a nice fire pit on the beach in the evenings. The cabins are very comfortable. You won’t be disappointed.

This place is amazing...pure relaxation right on the ocean! The views are exceptional and the staff goes out-of-their-way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. I just returned from a family vacation and can't wait to go back with my friends. The cabins are clean and quaint. Every room has an outdoor terrace with table, chairs and a hammock for relaxing. Nelida's cooking is a special treat. I especially enjoyed having fresh pressed raspberry juice for breakfast, delicious seafood and home made ice cream. The owners, Lori and Jim Nobles, treated us like family. Our room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The only noise was the crash of ocean waves. They are making many upgrades to the property and told us that a pool will be added soon. We truly enjoyed soaking up the local culture which included a visit to Bellitalia in Las Tunas for the best Italian food I've had since my visit to Florence; a whale watching and snorkeling excursion; a visit to a nature preservation for a sulfur mud bath; shopping in Las Tunas; and more. Make Tsafiki the next addition to your bucket list...you will be happy you did!

Room Tip: All of the rooms get a nice ocean breeze but I liked the views from the second floor best.

This is our second time going to Tsafiki and we enjoyed it both times (Feb and April 2014). In the two months since we last went, many improvements were made to the cabins to make them even more comfortable. The cabins on the second floor are great because they have a a direct view of the beach and the breeze comes right in. Lori and Jim the new owners, as well as the staff, make you feel at home, which is key when traveling with young children. On our last trip we arrived late at night and the staff had gone home, but Lori immediately got to work and we were eating in no time at all. The best part about Tsafiki is that we don't have to leave the hotel at all. This time I was able to get work done, while the kids enjoyed all of the extra amenities (snacks, meals to meet their needs & games-indoor and outdoor). They also help organize activities in order to keep guests entertained at all times. This is not a 5 star hotel, but its simplicity and at home feel makes it the perfect escape from everyday life.
I am already planning my next escape.

My traveling companions and I were in the Las Tunas area to visit some nature reserves. I wanted a clean place to sleep. We picked Tsafiki Cabins. That was a very good choice.
As we pulled off the main road and traveled down a dusty street to our lodgings, I noticed the area was not very upscale. I was a little nervous. My feelings changed almost immediately when a guy walking along the road flashed a big smile. Almost everyone I saw smiled and seemed very pleasant. When we reached Tsafiki Cabins, we were greated by two sweet, calm dogs; and shortly after, a very pleasant lady.
Lori, the owner, an American expat, walked us across a beautifully manicured yard to our cabin. As I walked up to our second floor room, I looked out at the property and was quite impressed by its attractiveness. When I went into our large, comfortable looking room, I found it quite pleasant: very clean and very attractive. One of the first things that I noticed was a large water container next to the bed: no night time walks to the office for bottled water nor additional plastic bottles for a landfill. The shower looked inviting and it was. The beds too were comfortable and there were plenty of outlets for my many camera battery chargers.
As I walked out on our private balcony, I was awed by the view. The ocean, beyond the yard, some bushes and a wide beach, was beautiful. It had several lovely shades of blue and the huge waves were quite dramatic. Three, small islets, added to the beauty. Too, the way that the cabins were situated gave each a lovely, unobstructed view. My friend, who stayed in the second floor of the cabin next to the cabin that my wife and I were sharing, seemed to particularly enjoy the view from her hammock on her and her husband's private balcony.
Since it was right there, we decided to eat at the restaurant at Tsafiki. I ordered Huevos Rancheros. Since it took a while in coming, I thought, "This better be good." It was so good that I decided that I would have Huevos Rancheros for every meal. I did order another item, however, at a later dinner. I ordered Shrimp in a Coconut Shell. The presentation, the coconut on a vibrant green leaf with a brilliant red hibiscus flower next to it, was very pretty. The taste was excellent. All of our party, including a vegetarian, seemed to enjoy every meal.
The restaurant was clean and attractive and the cook, as well as our hostess, Lori, was very pleasant. We were told that if we preferred, we could eat on a little patio outside the restaurant or in a lovely palm thatched cabana by the sea. On one occasion, we enjoyed a pitcher of fresh lemonade while sitting on lovely wooden benches at a table in the cabana. Another time, I asked for a beer to take to the cabana, a short walk through a long, covered, slightly raised walkway, from the restaurant. Lori insisted on bringing the beer out to the cabana, which is connected to the restaurant with a bell. When Lori arrived with the bottle of beer, it was in a large glass ice bucket. That is an example of the type of service that Lori provided. She always seemed to go out of her way to do a little extra.
The cabana had comfortable hammocks that looked out at the ocean. The ocean's large, powerful waves were such that my wife and I did not go deeper than knee deep when we went into the water. One of our very athletic friends actually went for a swim, but I would not recommend swimming in those massive waves. Rather than swimming, our main activity was long walks on that very clean, beautiful beach. The walks were delightful. On each walk, I made frequent stops to watch the almost ever present pelicans flying a foot or so above the swells, or sometimes, gliding well down into the troughs between the waves. I also stopped frequently to look at pretty, little blue stones that were scattered near the top of the beach and to appreciate photogenic night herons walking along the upper beach or sitting on a large piece of driftwood.
Our party of four were the only people staying at the Tsafiki on June 11th,12th and 13th. During long morning and evening walks on the beach, we were almost always alone, although once I saw Lori with a trash bag picking up some pieces of net that had washed ashore. When I asked Lori why this little bit of paradise was so devoid of people, she told me that it was "off season." We were staying there after the turtle nesting season and before the whale watching season. I said: "But the weather is perfect." She said that during this time of year that there were often clouds and light rain. One morning, we actually experienced a light, misty rain as we walked along the beach. I thoroughly enjoyed that walk.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Tsafiki Cabins. The cabins, the setting, the delicious food, and especially our wonderful hostess, Lori, made our stay a delight. Oh yes, as a person who loves watching birds, I have to mention the beautiful little, green Pacific Parrotlets that frequently adorned the bushes in the yard and the poles of the volley ball court out near the beach.

A few miles south of puerto Lopez..$5 taxi or 50c bus..great location in a small village with big beach with crashing waves and sunset virtually to yourself. Big,clean rooms with comfortable bed and good shower. Great place to relax or to be as active as you want..lots to see and do nearby..lots of help and advice from the owner. Relax on the balcony,in a hammock or on the beach. Food for breakfast and evening meal was really good..every meal as tasty as the last..try the huevos rancheros. Great hospitality..felt relaxed and at home from first minute..would definitely stay again.

We stayed here on the winter off-season during the whale migration and while the location was great, the experience itself was not. We were three families from nearby Guayaquil and from the US, and we all agreed on what the Tsafiki was lacking.
We loved that the place was right on the beach and the room rate was great because it was the off-season (and kind of chilly for Ecuador). The staff at Tsafiki were very nice and friendly, but we found their service lacking. Granted, we were large group of ten, but they didn't have enough food to feed us at the restaurant, so we had to go elsewhere. (Thankfully Jonny's place down the beach was a great option.) They also didn't clean our rooms other than the first night we were there, we only had hot water the first day, they didn't give us enough towels, we had to ask for toilet paper every day, the WIFI was spotty and was best available when we were sitting outside the cabin, etc. With better management, this place could be great, but it just seemed like the staff didn't care very much to deal with us during the winter. Maybe it's better during the summer in January when everyone is on their A-game. We all agreed that we could do better somewhere else next time we're in the area.

Closest airport is Manta but not convenient unless you are doing other travels in the country. Next best is Guayaquil which is 3 hours. Transportation in taxi is $100 each way. I can arrange. By bus is about $10. Let me know your plans and I can try to resolve any transportation issues. Prices will also vary depending on the number of persons. The $100 I quote is for up to 4 people.
