Viejamar is a wonderful hostel. The location is perfect, right on the beach near the village of Las Tunas. If you look for tranquility it’s the place to go to, you can relax at the hostel around the pool, on the balcony or in the chilling areas or at the beach. Everything is outdoors, you can sometimes spot hummingbirds, iguanas, crabs and many other birds. The staff is great, always here to make sure the guests get the best experience.

I stayed at Cabañas Viejamar for a week and it was an incredible nice stay! Rooms are comfortable, its right on the beach and its really nice, hot water without problems, nice swimming pool, awesome classes of surf given by the owner of the place! Rodrigo, the owner, and all of his staff are very kind and there for you if there's anything! The owner knows the aera very well so he can help you out very easily to plan your stay in that aera! I highly recommand this place to anybody who wants to visit that part of Ecuador!!!

We had a wonderful vacation in Viejamar, the owner is Rodrigo, a Chilean guy who is sooo nice and helpful in every way.
I went with my family and we had a lot of fun, we met new people from different countries, we cooked and learned new recipes, we surfed and had a good rest. The beach is amazing, the pool is perfect, and you never want to leave. I totally recommend Viejamar and its light environment. The prices are fine and you can buy fresh fish or seafood and prepare it on the grill while you have a glass of wine and laugh with friends.

Everything was great. We were picked up at the airport in Manta by a taxi sent by the hotel and greeted by Rodrigo upon arrival. Nice accommodations with hot water showers, good food, swimming pool, friendly staff and right on the beach. Loved hearing the surf as I feel asleep!! Rodrigo was active in helping us choose activities...whale watching, bird watching, trips to nearby towns for shopping. Loved it and hope to return.

We visited Cabanas Viejamar for 11 nights and had a wonderful experience. The beach was not crowded and it was beautiful, the staff was very helpful and accommodating with everything we needed. It was a relaxing environment, and a lot of fun! We also went whale watching and fishing which was amazing. The home cooked meals were excellent every time, the owner and staff went above and beyond, and we will definitely visit again.

I stayed at Cabanas Viejamar for 3 nights and after travelling through South America for several months it was the perfect place for me to relax, sleep incredibly well and enjoy wildlife and the beach! I just loved the place :-) The owner Rodrigo is a wonderful person, very helpful, speaks perfect English and is a very entertaining person. Viejamar is directly at the beach and has a nice small pool! It was great to use wifi in my room and enjoy some good movies in the lodge from time to time. Rodrigo helped me to organize trips to Isla de la Plata and Agua Blanca / Los Frailes - both were great! Viejamar is outside of Puerto Lopez in Las Tunas, but this is definitely a plus - the beach is cleaner and not crowded. You can take surf lessons (with Rodrigo) or do horseriding. I can definitely recommend the place!

I was weary of travel to a third world country and was very pleasantly surprised with the accommodations at the Cabanas Viejamar. Rodrigo the owner was a pure pleasure the whole trip and really made my experience grand. There are a lot of beautiful tropical flora and our Cabana was so very close to the ocean. Provided was a nice big palapa with hammocks which made for the perfect sunset watching. Offered as well for a great price and high value were surfing lessons. Rodrigo was a great teacher and I was able to surf in-spite of my great fear of the water! My vacation was not near long enough and I am marking down the days until I am able to return. I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else in Las Tunas. Rodrigo really made you feel like family and at home.

I planned to stay only for 4 days, but as I enjoyed my time there so much I stayed for more than a week. Finally I had to leave because of my flight back home.
Viejamar is perfect for everybody who wants a beach almost for their own. The owner is very helpful and organizes surf lessons, horseback riding, party trips or other activities to make your stay prefect. The beds are very comfortable and you can hear the sound of the sea to fall asleep. In the morning you get free delicious breakfast.
The Hostel is directly on the beach. And you can choose to either swim in the sea or in the pool. The hammocks on the beach were my favourite place to relax. I was very lucky to see a baby turtle on the beach.

What is the food situation like.... Is there a store near bye?
Answer from irina D

There are no stores near by. You will have to take a bus to the closest town that has a supermarket and a very nice local market. A bus ride will take you about 15-20 minutes.
