Our thatched-roofed cabanas were spacious, beautifully appointed and comfortable, but still in keeping with the jungle surroundings. Tom, the owner, and a biologist started our visit to El Monte with a guided tour of plants, insects and mammals. We then had a candle light dinner...More
Simply cannot say enough positive things about El Monte.
We live in Cuenca, Ecuador, and planned our visit as an entry to Ecuador for our son, who traveled from Cambodia for his first visit to the country. El Monte provided the perfect entry.

My wife and I happened to be the only visitors at the time so we had the guide to ourselves (luckily). I would imagine if more people were there, you would have to do a good job of planning either upon arrival (probably a more practical way due to weather and scheduling) compared to in advance. I found it was best to discuss all of the options in advance and upon arrival, come up with a plan in order to maximize what you did and scheduling. You'll have a great time either way!
