We didn't stay here but were lucky to be hooked up with the owner, Nasir, who is also a local bird guide. He took us out for a fun morning of bird spotting and casual walking. We later learned that his hostel runs what seemed...More

Sounds like a nice place. Is it easy to arrange transportation from Quito and back, and how much is a taxi for two people? Also, do you need guides and transportation for birding in the park? Thanks. We're thinking of going July 22-25 this year

There are 3 or more buses per day directly to Mindo center from Ophelia bus station in the north of Quito. However I would recommend taking the ecovia (25 cents) which travels from the old town along 6 decembre to Rio Coco station, transfering to the large northstation (terreste norte) in Carcelen, and taking any bus going to the coast that will stop at top of hill near Mindo. Then take a taxi into town. There is always a bus leaving along this route with minimal wait, no worries about advance purchases or schedule, quick and easy.
