Our Celebration Suite was amazing… roomy, airy, beautiful, with a gorgeous view of the water. Yes, you pay more for the Celebration top floor suites, but it is worth it. We live our regular lives at 100 mph, working nonstop, and we don’t vacation often, so when we do, we like to slow down, sleep in, and enjoy the quiet of beautiful surroundings. If you are a “get up at dawn and explore the island every day” kind of person, I would tell you to book the garden view suites to save yourself some money (but don’t then complain about the view like some reviewers did…the hotel is very clear in their descriptions on the suite types)! The rooms are well stocked with Nespresso pods and machine, yummy snacks, seltzers, and a little kitchenette with a cooling drawer. Add in the cushy bathrobes and slippers and huge rainhead shower, and you feel quite pampered!! The sink is huge- I would recommend (for any future renovation) to turn that space into two smaller sinks, to increase usable counter space.
Room service is incredible. Food choices are good, delivery is quite prompt, and all was delicious. And if you want something not listed on the menu, just ask… they really do go out of their way to make you happy!
Housekeeping was wonderful. I do not understand some of the reviewers whining about this…someone else is cleaning up after you. Be grateful and say thank you, and if you’re delayed in leaving the room, simply call and let them know when you’re leaving so they can time their service.
The restaurants (Birdcage and main) were both excellent. Cocktails are very pricey, but delicious. Pool smoothies are yummy, and we loved the comfy pool chaise lounges, clean chaise covers and towels provided. We also enjoyed the Tree House dinner— excellent service.
The shuttle drivers are great! They cheerfully schlep you all over Wailea, and give awesome tips and pointers about what to see and do.
Another special thing we noted and appreciated—the manager, Markus Schale, is frequently visible on property and very actively involved. He is definitely not one of those “hide behind a closed door” kind of managers, and we suspect he has a lot to do with how well this hotel is run. Mahalo, Markus!!
We would happily return to be pampered again at Hotel Wailea!

Now just a couple picky cons:
Surprised that there was phone charging capabilities on only one side of the bed
Had to get out of bed to go to the wall switches to turnoff the bedside lamps.
Had to request an iron after we got to the room which crunched us for time getting to our reservation night 1. Just put a modern steamer in the room.
Stayed in the Celebration Suite, which was outstanding, although was a bit surprised by some of the occasional road noise we heard from our balcony.
Used the $60 breakfast credit option and appreciated the convenience and quality of breakfast; it was also more our style to use that credit and then be free to explore Wailea and the south coast for the rest of the day/evening.
Really enjoyed the fitness studio and its excellent view. As a trail runner, it's hard to make a treadmill seem interesting, and that view nearly does the job.
Also really enjoyed the pool. Staff at the cabanas were attentive and drinks were delicious.
Underrated value: Valet staff will provide chairs, umbrella, and towels for beach excursions, whether you're using your own car or not. This made our trips to Big Beach so smooth and delightful--we'd call up to the desk and by the time we arrived at the driveway, our car would be loaded with beach-day supplies.
Overrated, slightly: The restaurant. Staff and food quality were excellent, but the menu seemed overpriced at $150/person before drinks and additions.

Admittedly we had some hiccups with turndown service and restocking of snacks and soft drinks but it was recognized and ameliorated.
Since we spent our whole time at the pool, it was a bit curious that all of the cabanas had reserved signs though people didn’t show up. Might be worth asking if a cabana is in fact available. Which we did and voila we got one. (Maybe because we griped about the lack of turndown service?)
We were given late checkout but unfortunately the weather was crappy (torrential downpours) so couldn’t get full advantage of the facilities. That said, the breakfast room service was pretty solid- nice fluffy omelette with crispy potatoes and a salad. We also had lunch at the pool bar and highly recommend the soba noodles and pork tacos.
We will likely back but I hope they get the permanent beach service up and running again.

Unlike some chain resorts, HW offers many complimentary activities; water, sodas, snacks and coffee in the room; classes; shuttle (we didn’t use), and more.
James, cabanas bartender, best mixology class ever. We learned, we laughed, and we tasted. James always knew about every state/city mentioned and kept conversations so fun.
Social hour at the Treehouse was also a great way to talk with guests, and staff, thanks.
And the girls at Cabanas did a great job with Mimosa Mingle, yum!
The rooms/suites are one of the most comfortable I’ve ever experienced. Comfy sectional when we did want to chill with TV. Kitchenette provided most everything we needed, loved the Nespresso machine. Was nice to be able to enjoy some leftovers in our room.
I slept great, we requested foam pillows in advance and they were provided.
The huge soaking tub was magnificent and the rain head shower wonderful. Impressed with the Dyson supersonic hairdryer. And the toilet… amazing. I wonder how many people go home and want to buy one!
The grounds are beautiful and so well maintained. Staff also well trained, very polite.
We did not pay higher price for ocean view and chose a garden view suite, and we loved our location. Our “much larger than normal” lanai overlooked a pond with fountains and koi fish and was very private, with comfortable patio furniture for laying back, or dining.
Oh, and the light in the rooms! Not only was there a large patio door that opened all the way, but 3 windows! How many hotel rooms have 3 windows
