My family and I had a fantastic time at the Grand Wailea Resort. I especially liked the easy access of the beach and proximity to a world class pool with rapids, Tarzan rope swing, water elevator, lazy river and water slides. Our children loved it....More
"Brokedown Palace" best describes this place to me. I think the glory days for the GW are long gone. It's still on a beautiful beach and the pool is nice if you don't mind 5000 screaming kids like Disneyworld. During our visit there must have...More
Its a beautiful hotel with fantastic landscapes and plenty of activities to keep children and adults occupied. One would not feel the need to leave the hotel and just enjoy the luxurious ambience and the excellent food. The staff is friendly and efficient. The beach...More
I highly recommend the Grand Wailea. The grounds are beautifully landscapaed and the beds are very comfortable. Dinners and lunches are very tasty, which does not hold true at some other places in the island, and the area it's located at, is very safe and...More

I completely agree with the last answer. You do not want to be riding bikes in this area. The topography is not great for casual biking and there are just not bike paths. We own several condos across the street from the GW at the Ho'olei Resort and we do not offer bikes either. If you are a serious rider, I would recommend you rent a road or mountain bike in upcountry Makawao. The area has some great mountain bike paths and/or experienced riders enjoy riding up to the crater.

The rooms have been upgraded and it is nice to get one with an ocean view but if you are not one to stay in the room, I would just go with the best rate. I have been in rooms that are not that convenient and can be a long walk to certain areas. If this is a concern, I would call the hotel and voice your concerns so they put you in the best choice for the option you decide on.
