We toured Elgin as part of Spring Pilgrimage and enjoyed the difference between it and town homes and antebellums. It is about 15 minutes drive outside Natchez, which made it a good choice to visit too. It had a very tranquil air about it and the huge verandah at the front complete with more porch rockers than I could count... More

We have done the tour of Elgin a few times, and catch new details each time. It has some interesting history, lots of flowers, and the owner Ruth Ellen is delightful. Lizzie, Ruth Ellen's right hand, is a stitch, and has lots to share. The B&B is in the old servants quarters. If you are expecting the amenities of a... More

We happened upon Elgin one vacation and we're lucky enough to spend the night. The lady of the house was charming and we had the whole guesthouse to ourselves. We were served beaten biscuits at breakfast. There were even several antebellum dresses for my teen daughter to try on for me to see. It was such a lovely place. We... More

Elgin plantation is just outside of Natchez close to town. Our hostess Ruthellen gave us takes well told about local lore and characters served up with a mint Juliip. The grounds and house are beautiful and have an interesting history. Ruth Ellen Is an old Natchez family and can tell you some interesting tales about the folks there. The accommodations... More

I started going to Elgin back in the 1980s once, sometimes twice a year for the Natchez Pilgrimage. My last visit was in mid 2014. I have gone up with girlfriends, family and even by myself for a little R&R. Elgin welcomes you with open arms. It feels like home and a true southern experience. Mrs. Calhoun is the epitome... Our group of 5 seniors (2 American, 3 British) recently completed a 2-week roadtrip of the Southern States. Elgin Plantation was easily our favorite place to stay - and we are unanimous in that! What an absolutely beautiful place in a gorgeous setting. When we arrived it was like driving up to the big house in Gone With the Wind.... More

Elgin is a beautiful home, and its owner (Mrs. Calhoun) is absolutely wonderful. The guest house, where my wife and I stayed, was well furnished and comfortable. Mrs. Calhoun is a delight and will give you a personal tour of the home. We were also served a delicious breakfast each morning by Mrs. Calhoun's helper, Lizzie, who was a delight... More

My father grew up at Elgin. His family lived there from the 1930s until the early 1970s. When a family wedding took us back to Natchez, we found out the guesthouse was available for the weekend. This was a perfect opportunity for my 3 nieces (9, 11, and 13) to visit and see where my father grew up and where... More

We stayed at Elgin Plantation for only two nights, but are so hopeful to be able to return! Our hostess, Mrs. Calhoun, was very charming and welcoming...and Lizzie is a wonderful cook and friendly face to see each morning! The accomodations could not have been better! Clean, comfortable and very private. A wonderful place to rest and relax!

Thanks to Mrs. Ruth Ellen Calhoun and Lizzie we had a fabulous time in Natchez and the weekend went by too fast! We felt so welcomed and "at home" and it was nice to have our breakfast cooked for us in our own dining room in the guest cottage. Relaxing, hospitable and memorable. We will be back when we can... “Be aware that all the rooms don't have their own bathroom. Two of the rooms share a bath. So if you are renting the whole cottage with friends, like we did, it's not a problem. If you don't know the other guests, you may have to walk through their room, or exit & enter on the balcony outside.”
