This hotel is a very peaceful oasis in the very busy resort of Peniscola. as other reviewers have mentioned, don't be deterred by the one star rating: if you are looking for clean, simple and comfortable accommodation in a beautiful beach resort, you will be delighted with the Mare Nostrum. In spite of being on the seafront next to bars...

One typically rates a hotel on room quality, staff, and price. Mare Nostrum excels in each category. First the room, more than adequate in size, clean tile floors, balcony with extensive view of the castle and the entire length of the beach. The bathroom has tiled floor and walls with plenty of hot water and a large bathtub. There is...

We booked the Mare Nostrum because of it's central location, right on the beach and yards away from Peniscola castle. We had to park in the underground car park close by, which has cheaper rates booking for a number of days. The owner is very friendly and helpful. Our room overlooked the front of the hotel, not facing the great...

After a great train journey from Valencia, we arrived in Peniscola and the Mare Nostrum. Even the local taxi driver told us what a great view we would get from our hotel balcony and he wasnt wrong - absolutely stunning ! Very close to the walls of the beautiful & historic old town, the hotel also overlooks a stunning beach....

We didn't realise that Peniscola was a beach resort between Valencia and Barcelona until we got there. We only chose to stay here because of its location. Mare Nostrum was located right on the beach and only a 5 minute walk to the castle which jutted out into the sea. So the location was perfect for us. We had to...

We spent one night here before heading into the mountains. The hotel is a modern building beside the beach, very close to the old town. Our room was small but clean and well-equipped. Breakfast was on a rooftop terrace - unfortunately it was raining so we ate inside. A lovely breakfast served by smiling staff. We would happily stay there...

Peniscola itself is classic Spanish beach-tourism territory, and so I didn't expect a lot, but this hotel, Mare Nostrum, turned out to offer the best value of any place I stayed on a 20-day car trip around Spain. True, it wasn't absolutely high season, but it was a warm and sunny Saturday in May; and for a mere 55 Euros...

I pulled into Peñíscola on the afternoon of May Day, a national holiday. I was surprised to see it so busy. I had the idea there wouldn't be many people and I could stay in one of the big hotels for a song. Wrong! I was quoted prices of like 75 euros. So I drove down the esplanade toward the...

Very clean well equipped, but simple rooms with sea view in excellent seafront location between the old town and the modern town centre. Parking at a reduced rate in the underground public carpark opposite. Breakfast in sunny rooftop room. lovely location but breakfast was the worst I have ever had in Spain. Portion control taken to extremes. Allocation of 1...

Room was small but clean and well priced. We preferred the more expensive ocean view & beach side. The room came with a small terrace at no extra charge in the off season. 50 euroes per night. Staff spoke english and helped us get right to the tourist attractions that interested us. The endless beach must be spectacular in the...
