Entering the tiny town of Independence, I wasn't sure what to expect of the accommodations. I'm happy to say that Ray's Den far exceeded our expectations. It was definitely clean, comfortable, and - as the web site promises - FLUFFY towels. Better than I've had in MANY pricey/fancy hotels! We appreciated having the refrigerator and microwave - we were able...

Ray's Den is the perfect place to relax and kick back whether you are just passing through the small town of Independence or spending a few days in the area. You are a rocks throw from the Sierras, Manzanar National Historic Site, Lone Pine and the Alabama Hills, not to mention the nearby fishing spots. The place is a classic...

This was a great motel. Rooms were fine. Everything was really clean. Amenities were nice- generous with coffee and milk etc. Lots of space and little kitchen area easily adequate to heat up food. Very pleasant owner- helpful with a corkscrew and advice about area. However, Independence is very small and apart from a Subway sandwich shop there is really...

I love old motels with a 50's/60's feel to them. This place fits that image nicely. Staying in these places can be tricky. You often get the vintage dirt and grime that comes with that cozy feeling. Not the case here! This motel is immaculate. I have stayed in $250 hotel rooms that were not this clean. Great price, fantastic...

Ray's Den is a small, 8 room motel with a magnificent backdrop of the Alabama Hills (mountains). Super clean. Nice touches such as local tourist brochures. Linda was very kind and helpful when my car broke down. We ended up spending 3 nights here. Nice walk up the road - Museum 1/4 Mile to view and take photos of the...

This motel looked like any other until you walked in the door and were greeted by the staff member. She was very knowledgable about the hikes we were about to take and gave us great suggestions. Although the room was basic, we were impressed with the simple touches. Day #2, they remembered that I had asked for an extra decaf...

My husband and I were traveling from Yosemite to Vegas. We were not sure how far we'd get, but ended up targeting Independence as a good interim place to stop for the night. Naturally, we consulted TripAdvisor and read good things about Ray's Den. We had no previous reservations and were grateful to find a vacancy. Ray's doesn't look like...

This motel was impressively clean (cleaner than some of the pricey luxury hotels we've stayed at). We walked in without a reservation and the only room available had two beds. Linda, the friendly owner, gave us a discount since we only needed the one bed. The room would have been a good value at its full price. Bonus: it's walking...

Very small, independently owned motel (8 rooms), walking distance to the 2 or 3 restaurants in Independence. Room was clean and quaint, with a small tiled shower reminiscent of the 1950's. Room had mini-frig, microwave and coffee pot, free Wi-Fi, cable TV and A/C. There were 2 padded chairs and a small table. Although it was right next to Hwy...

Rode my motorcycle from Coronado CA through Death Valley on my way back home to Sacramento. Called Ray's and spoke with Linda - cool lady! Room was affordable, very clean, and quite frankly better than what I expected for such a small town. The bed was comfortable, the A/C COLD and I'd definitely stay there again without hesitation. Thanks, Linda!!!!...
