Nestled in the heart of Cambridge, the Freepoint Hotel Cambridge, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, is lauded for its superb location and eclectic atmosphere that families love. While the comfortable rooms with ample amenities receive commendations, some guests have encountered maintenance and cleanliness concerns. The service shines with its friendly and professional staff, although housekeeping and administrative hiccups have been noted. Despite the allure of diverse amenities like a Peloton bike and a secret garden, the additional fees, including parking and a mandatory destination charge, have been a point of contention for value-conscious travelers.

We were in Boston for the New Balance National track meet. We chose the Freepoint and are glad we did. Very nice hotel with a Restaurant and Bar, a couple of different lounge areas with a pool table & lots of seating, A wonderful outdoor enclosed patio with a fireplace, and a Starbucks. It was in the perfect area as well, close to everything you may need. Whole Foods, CVS, TJ Maxx, a couple of Dunkin Donuts if you aren’t a Starbucks fan, a great little mom and pop pizza place with a large variety of food choices, McDonalds, a Sushi restaurant, a wine and spirits store and a Petsmart all within close waking proximity to the hotel. The rooms were also comfortable and the service was outstanding. All the front desk associates were wonderful but Noah and Chantel made sure our stay was everything we wanted! Highly recommend if you are in the Boston area.

This is one of Hilton’s new brands, with a more contemporary vibe. Personally, I liked what they’ve done with the lobby, and found our room to be very comfortable and well thought out, with a small L-shaped sofa and table complementing the bed. Breakfast is not included in the room rate, but there is a Starbucks just off the lobby and Whole Foods is located in the shopping strip next to the hotel. (The hotel also sells a hot breakfast, but we didn't try it.) Parking costs extra, but is in a convenient surface lot so the Freepoint is a good choice if you come with a car. If you don't have a car, the hotel is located about a half-mile from the Alewife T station, and it's an easy walk along a paved sidewalk the whole way so it's no problem with a small roller bag. We tried out the free hotel shuttle to Harvard Square, which runs once an hour. It was fine heading to the Square, but failed to come pick us up even though we had called the hotel to request the service. Overall, you get what you pay for in terms of location: rates at the Freepoint are a bargain compared to hotels closer to Harvard Square, but it is definitely less convenient for visiting museums, restaurants, and campus events.

Refrigerator has 2 settings, freeze or off.
No dressers.
Cold Air in room blows directly on guests all night long.
You must schedule room cleaning (not automatic), and request toilet paper at the front desk (how embarrassing)
Covid protocols closed the restaurant, bar, library, game room, outdoor fire pits
The room price should have been reduced.

We came for a getaway over NYE weekend. We are Hilton property owners and prefer to stay at Hilton-owned hotels when we can, and we got a good rate for the weekend. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean but relatively small. There is a refrigerator, coffee maker and a safe in the room. There was no closet in our room, but rather a rolling rack type closet area covered with fabric. The shower was very refreshing and the toiletries smelled wonderful. They do not provide housekeeping unless you ask for it but you can easily get more housekeeping items if you ask. The area by the front desk where you can purchase snacks was very well stocked. The view from our room on the 3rd floor was the parking lot of the Whole Foods next door. The closest T station is Alewife (Red Line) which is about .5 mile down the road. It it possible to safely walk there from the hotel. There is also a Starbucks on premises that can be accessed through the lobby/lounge area. The bar/lounge area is cozy.
You can pay for breakfast vouchers for a full breakfast, but there’s a DD within walking distance. Parking was $16 a day. The parking lot is very limited so be aware of this. We enjoyed our stay.

We booked a 7 night stay here (visiting our daughter in college) based on location and decent reviews elsewhere. Three days in and we've had to switch rooms twice. The first switch was hours after we checked in when the front piece to the air conditioning/heating unit fell off as soon as the unit rumbled on. We couldn't re-attach and notified the front desk who informed us we would have to move rooms. Two days later, in our new room, the water stopped draining from the bathtub/shower. We had to switch rooms again, after returning from a long day on campus/in the city. When I requested some kind of room credit/refund, we were offered breakfast vouchers instead. The staff are friendly, but this property is run-down and way too expensive for the condition it's in. Will never stay here again and don't recommend.

Although we had requested a king bed, when we arrived they only had a queen. They said that we could “upgrade” us to a king for an additional $25 per night. Additionally they charged us an additional $16 a day to park in their lot. They said this is standard in Cambridge, but we’ve stayed in Cambridge before and we’re not charged for parking.

The room was was updated. The bathroom was small but okay. Although most of the room seemed clean, the nightstand was dusty and sticky! There wasn’t a closet, but a clothes rack along the wall.

On a positive note, we had a dead battery one morning and an employee came out with a charger and we were on the road in no time.

We love staying at the Freepoint at Fresh Pond in Cambridge whenever we are in town. We were longterm Cambridge residents who recently moved out of town but still come in once a month for "maintenance" activities:). The staff at Freepoint (especially Yodi) is always welcoming and obliging. The rooms are modern and roomy--ditto the bathrooms. They welcome pets which is a plus as we sometimes bring our dogs. Parking is easy right in front of the hotel. Whole Foods and other shops are right next door and you can walk through the lobby to Starbucks. We have felt very safe staying here during COVID because of their strict cleaning protocols. Freepoint is our home away from home while we are in town and we always feel like staying longer. I should also mention that they have an awesome book collection in their lobby!! (It being Cambridge and all:). One last thing: the price is very right:)

All staff with whim I had interaction were incredibly polite and helpful. The hotel seemed a bit tired, and as though it had been spruced up like a college dorm. That said, it was quite comfortable. The location across from Fresh Pond was very nice for walks, and it is conveniently located to access Cambridge (and has a shuttle to Harvard Square!) Fitness center was adequate.

This hotel is quite a little gem. The location is great, the prices decent, and the staff are really amazing. They will bring anything up to your room, get your TV to work even if it is late night, and always remember you even if you have not been able to stay there for more than a year!
When I walked in, I was immediately welcomed with my name, just like I was a family member who had been away for a bit. Yodit was especially welcoming....
Every single staff member was friendly, always smiling, and have a great sense of humor. I would not stay anywhere else!

This is definitely a hotel I will come back to. As others have mentioned, this hotel is in a convenient location to many things: Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, a liquor store. Also, the shuttle is handy to get to Harvard Square. Just make sure you let them know ahead of time as the shuttle doesn't run continuously.

Something I almost missed (it wasn't mentioned to me) was that they serve free wine and snacks on Wednesday from around 5 to 6:30 pm. I'm not sure if they do something every evening as I was only there for the one night.

Are their fridges in the room? What does the "mini bar" entail?
Answer from HalClarke

There are fridges in the rooms. They also have nice mini Keurig coffee makers with reg, decaf, tea pods. There’s one free bottle of water in the fridge and a second on the shelf for $4. No minibar. No microwave. The hotel’s bar/ restaurant is nice and open until 10pm. They serve breakfast in am. No complimentary food. Snacks and candy available in small hotel “store” area.

technically $25. They give you a $25 room credit, then tell you it's $25 to park. Go figure

When I stayed at the hotel, there was no complimentary breakfast. We definitely had breakfast and it was very reasonably priced and very tasty. If someone told you that breakfast is included I am sure hotel management would assist you, they were very accommodating on our stay. Good luck, and see you again Freepoint hotel!!!
