Lodgings in Cambridge are always ridiculously expensive, and Irving House is no exception. However, I do think that you get a little more for your money than at the local competition. The location is excellent, just a few blocks away from Harvard Yard in a residential neighborhood. Our room (#107) was comfortable, spacious, and had a newly renovated bathroom. Breakfast...

Thank you for your kind and specific review! You are right, those limitations on our accommodations do pose problems for some guests, and they are so far not fixable. We are always looking into ways to improve our breakfast, and will see how we can add to our hot items array, which has been growing in response to guests' requests....

If you are looking for a convenient bed and a breakfast in the Cambridge area this is the place to try. I wish I had discovered it a year ago. I visit my daughter in Cambridge and have payed the high price at the local major chain hotels. There is no fuss to this place, but quaint atmosphere, snacks available...

The Irving House is set up similar to a hostel. The room I selected did not have a private bathroom; but there were 2 shared bathrooms on each floor - 1 full bathroom with bathtub and shower and 1 with sink and toilet. Not too bad as whenever I wanted to use the bathroom it was usually available. My single...

Thank you for your thorough and thoughtful review of your stay with us! I think you have provided a very accurate picture of our guesthouse. We do NOT charge extra for parking, and it is limited, so we are very happy to accommodate guests who arrive without a car...the house is convenient to public transit, as you note, one of...

After reading several scathing reviews on Irving House at Harvard, I was beginning to feel buyer's remorse..I booked a one night stay prior to a week-long trip to Provincetown as a stopover after flying in from the West Coast. I thought to myself, "Well, it's only for one night..." However, I can now say I am confident that Irving House...

Thank you for staying with us in spite of hearing the voices of unhappy travelers! We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay. There are times when the room you occupied does have a rate of under $150. We always aim to have our rates be among the very lowest in the Harvard Square area, and include important amenities that...

The breakfast was excellent with lots of fresh options to choose from. We traveled with grandma and rented a room with a double bed and a "bunk bed". We got a third floor room. There is no elevator. The stairs are of course as old as the house so it was quite a workout for grandma to make it to...

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. I am very sorry you did not find all to your liking. While we have been replacing carpets in some areas of the house, we had not gotten to all of them before our high season started, so, yes, there are some rooms still needing attention. They are...

As the title all says, this place is the worst place I have stayed so far. The price per night was 280 dollars which is not that bad in Cambridge and Boston area. However, (1) the room was extremely tiny (NO closet, one bed + desk ONLY which occupy > 95% space in the bedroom). I barely located even my...

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. I am very sorry to see how you feel about it. Yes, many of our rooms are small, built that way in the 1920s for Harvard students. While we have done significant renovations and eliminated some of them (to create more private baths), about half of the rooms in the...

Great location reasonable prices however there were 4 flights of stairs and no elevator! I had a large bag. Thankfully they had someone to help with the bag. The air was not as cool as I like it. But they did have a fan! Good for young people but not for ladies if certain age.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful review! Yes, we have no elevator, and help with luggage when we can. Our central air conditioning is set for F70-72 degrees and we hope that the fans in the room help to make that comfortable. Ladies of a certain age are very welcome and accommodated in response to their requests for lower...

Loved this little gem. Lovely selection at breakfast in the breakfast room. Fresh baked snacks most of the day. No elevator so be sure you can carry your bags up.24 hour desk service. Thank you for your kind and thoughtful review! The construction you experienced is going to continue throughout the summer, alas. Harvard University is repointing its brick walls on the student housing next door. While we know this is an inconvenience during the work hours (Monday-Friday, 8-4) we hope that most guests are out of their rooms and enjoying Cambridge. Where...

I have stayed at this guest house twice now whilst visiting family in Cambridge. It is an excellent alternative to hotels in the immediate area. My room was quiet and perfectly comfortable but extremely small for the price, hence the 3 stars. The breakfast, however, included 5 star coffee and high quality organic options so I guess you could say that the quality of the breakfast is reflected in price of the room. Thank you for your thoughtful review. We are very pleased you like our coffee. As this is a particularly challenging thing to get right, we aim to please several different tastes....
