The setting and views were 5+ stars. The rooms were excellent with a small patio in front and back of each room, according to the strong winds. Food was basic, leaving flavors to the primary food, rather than uses herbs or sauces.
Quite expensive, esp food and drink. I would stay here again however.

The rooms are cosy & well equipped. Each comes with an en-suite, two sitting chairs, TV, WiFi, reading lamps, private enclave, kettle & teas and a stunning view.

The breakfast is delicious and gives you a broad range of locally sourced produce to choose from.

Linen & bath towels are high quality, too. Adding additional comfort to this already great value country hotel.

If you're thinking about travelling around Iceland, you need to spend at least one night at this beautiful hotel!

We recently spent one night at this amazing little hotel in the middle of nowhere. The rooms are clean, comfortable and larger than I had expected them to be. The biggest surprise was the food. We ate dinner there because there is not really a town nearby and the dinner was spectacular- lamb and Arctic char, fish soup with homemade bread and an appetizer sampler with local meats. The breakfast, which is included in the room rate, also had homemade breads and jams. We will remember this wonderful hotel fondly when we look back on our Icelandic adventure. Highly recommend

The property caters to groups rather than individual bookings. We did not eat dinner at the restaurant because large groups had booked early times. We were told breakfast would be open at 7:30 AM. We arrived at 7:30 am and a large group had overrun the breakfast buffet by the time we arrived. The breakfast offerings were limited and not particularly appetizing. Shortly thereafter another large group arrived making the experience even less comfortable. Based on the breakfast experience we were quite happy that we skipped eating dinner at the property.

The property is remote with nothing nearby. The room appeared to be new construction. No steps were available for the entry requiring a large step up to the entry. The pillows were undersized and uncomfortable. There was a new large flat screen smart television on the wall, but service was not available. When the manager was asked about the lack of service he told us to use our Netflix account. Considering the location has no activities nearby and there are 32 units, the property should have satellite service provided and a Netflix account available for customers that don't have Netflix. The manager was not very pleasant or accommodating. I perceived he had less regard for us since we were not part of a large group.

Bath soap or body wash was not provided in the room. The access to the room was not convenient for walking and the driveway was rocky and quite rough.

I have never written a review before, but am compelled to write about this special place. The setting is magical, seems right out of a novel or love story. (I keep thinking of Misty of Chinquotegue for all you old ladies out there!) Sweeping vistas, majestic mountains in the back drop and quiet for miles around. The rooms are well appointed and the north facing cottage like room allowed us to watch a midnight sunset with spectacular colors. The owners grew up in this beautiful countryside, still live in a sod-roofed home in the fields above the main road and beautiful, approachable Icelandic horses are grazing all around. The food and service was 5 star in an intimate friendly way. For a real treat, we drove 20 minutes north to the Hosfos Swimming pool for a lovely warm swim and soak in Iceland’s most beautiful pool. Treat yourself!

During the 12 day round tour stay in iceland, this Guesthouse was my very favorite. They didnt bother to provide standardized continental breakfast, instead they offered the highest quality e.g. lamb patete, excellent cheese. Also the roomes didnt lack anything e.g. great internet, but were simplistic and nice to enjoy without clutter. The Outlook over the Fjord is second to none. a great retreat from stressful times

From the very first greeting, we could sense that this family-run hotel was going to be warm and welcoming. We were very lucky to get room 32, with a spectacular 180 degree view of the estuary. The room was clean, warm and with all the amenities we expected. Dinner was marvellous as was the breakfast. We only stayed one night, as our tour company wisely thought this somewhat remote hotel was a good stopover on our 14-day journey around Iceland. The Country Hotel was one of the top places during our visit to this wonderful country.

Hofsstaðir is a charming country hotel, with an amazing view of Skagafjörður and Drangey island. The rooms are spacious and well furnished, and each rooms has a patio with a wonderful view.

The restaurant has a short menu, but the food was outstanding and the chef is not only a wonderful chef but also very charming.

Before we left the hotel after a good night sleep and a hearty breakfast, we bought a couple of local produce which is sold at the hotel, such as Birch syrup and Dried mushrooms. We look forward to returning to Hofsstaðir next time we'll be travelling around Skagafjörður.

Absolutely loved this place! I wanted to stay longer. Locate in northern Iceland in the countryside. Views from our cabin were amazing. The cabin was beautifully decorated. Only drawback was that they did not provide shower gel or shampoo. Neverless, I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

This was an ok stay. We did joke that it felt a bit like Bates Motel as the room was basic and very cold and extremely remote.
View from rooms and dining area was beautiful and breakfast was fine.
Didn’t eat dinner as (like most of Iceland) it was very expensive and choice quite limited.

"We stayed in room 32, which another reviewer recommended. We liked it because it was on the far end, more private and open."
