It's a bad joke. Very expensive, uncomfortable "houses" and beds. Toilets and showers are clean but you have to walk cc. 3-4 minutes. Restaurant us also extremly expensive. I think its absolutely not worth the money. I dont recommend it.

Dear Marcell, thank you for visiting us at the Volcano Huts although I see from your review that you have mixed feelings about the place. I agree that Þórsmörk is in fact a crazy place and one of the most beautiful hiking destinations in Iceland. Services in Iceland can be expensive and we would love to be able to offer...

My friends and I agreed that the point of the huts was to allow those of us less inclined to pitch a tent to see the beauty of the otherwise difficult to access Thorsmork. The point is not luxury or comfort, which is why I'm giving this five stars, despite the barebones facilities. The place it's clean and simple. The...

We did the Skogar to Thorsmork hike as a day hike and ended up at the Volcano Huts just in time for dinner. Keeping in mind that these are hiker's huts, we were very happy with the accommodations and meals. The hardest part of the hike was finding the route from Basar to Thorsmork! The bus route follows the river...

We got there by bus, crossing 17 rivers. That was great. Volcano huts is a very small place. The lunch was not enthousiastically eaten by our kids. Nothing to choose, only 1 option. We took a very nice walk up the mountain and back in less than 2 hours. The bus back was overbooked. An extra bus was organised, but...

We did 7500 Ikr (62 Euro) for a bunkbed. We ended the 4 of us on a matras on the floor. With 10 other people. I have been in many hiking sides and used hiking facilities all over the world but this really rediculous. The area is nice but you can better spend your money in other placed

Dear Meermartin, thank you for visiting us in Þórsmörk and writing this review, I have to say that I strongly disagree with your statement that Þórsmörk is overrated as a hiking destination. If you read into other reviews online, regardless of what people have to say about facilities and services in the area, then I think that most people agree...

Stayed for one night in a hostel-style room. Positives: Prime location for starting many great hikes. Rooms were warm. Looks like a good place to camp, if you have your own tent and sleeping bag. Negatives: Overpriced--$60 for a bed and pillow in a cramped room. Beds did not have sheets or pillow cases, and rental for one night was...

if you wish to get to the Volcano Huts I'm suggesting to take a bus from where ever you're coming from to save you some nerve. we drove a 4x4 across the mountain streams for 14 kilometres and got stuck on the final river. there is a service option though: call to the reception and a guy on a truck...

It is 'just' a hiking hut so if you don't expect a luxury hotel (which you won't if you would have prepared yourself right negative people) it will exceed your expectations. The atmosphere is fantastic, the staff super friendly (in a introvert icelandic way), very clean and fantastic surroundings. They should improve the beds though as you could not sleep...

Overall, this place was great. Very clean rooms, super comfortable mattresses, chill atmosphere with friendly folks around. You get a fairly elaborate dinner and breakfast with your room, which helps with the pain of the cost. It seems fair though, because getting there is CRAZY and I can't imagine how hard it is to keep the place stocked. Things to...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Volcano Huts are located in Húsadalur Valley in the THórsmörk Nature Reserve in Iceland, right next to the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano & Glacier. The unique nature of the THórsmörk area make this an ideal place for hiking and nature exploring. We offer rustic mountain hut accommodation, local food, tours and activities for groups and individuals. Volcano Huts offer simple accommodation in small cottages, shared cabin-dorms, small private bedrooms and camping grounds. Our accommodations are quite rustic and in keeping with other mountain huts in Iceland but offer the option of small private cottages and rooms with made up beds. THórsmörk Nature Reserve, has one of Iceland's most dynamic and beautiful landscapes, where active volcanoes and towering glaciers rise above the lush valleys below. The THórsmörk area has endless hiking trails and is connected to the Landmannalaugar Nature Reserve via the Laugavegur hiking trail and Skógar via the Fimmvorduhals trail. The LavaGrill Restaurant & bar offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacks, homemade cakes and coffee. We can also send you off with a packed lunch to take with you on your hike. The bar offers a selection of local beers and other drinks. How to get here - IMPORTANT! Please note that you will have to take a special mountain bus to get here as you will have to cross big rivers on the way. You can take the bus all the way from Reykjavik or leave your car and hop onboard the bus at various stops along the way. ... more   less
