Best option for overnight stay in Hella area but nothing we had anticipated. My family of four stayed in two standard rooms. We were disappointed in the room size and their knotty pine walls and ceramic tile floors. Photos depict wall hangings and local artwork - there were none in the rooms. There were three standard square hot tubs on...

We stayed here last year and were lucky enough to stay in the Antartica suite, it was an amazing room. The themed room had nice little touches such as a antartica chess set and wooden penguins everywhere. There were two balconies on this room and when we got the wake up call for the lights we were on the side...

We stayed here one night as we were ending our ring road trip. This is a beautiful, luxuriously rustic sort of hotel. The staff were so helpful and the owner even stopped by the chat with us at dinner. We stayed in the Japanese suite, which is very beautiful and over-the-top Japanese, right down to the wooden bathtub. The bed...

We could not have asked for a better place to base ourselves during our four day stay in Iceland than Hotel Ranga. The rustic but artfully decorated lodge has a unique appeal, beginning with the larger-than-life but real-life bear in the lobby. The restaurant has great food and a welcoming atmosphere. We got great directions and help in planning our...

Hotel Ranga cuts right to the chase on what you need for a good stay: a comfortable room, attentive staff, an amazing restaurant, and a stunning location. There aren't many frills here - the atmosphere is more like a good friend's simple cabin in the woods - but everything is high quality. Don't miss the restaurant, which is, apart from...

Stayed here in March and it was amazing. The rooms are so cosy, food in the restaurant delicious and the whole atmosphere is so rustic , I just loved it. Also loved the fact that every night during dinner the manager comes to your table to have a quick chat and he is also able to remember the conversation the...

Stayed in the Antartica suite for three nights. Very large, funky room! Great hotel - all staff very friendly and a personal welcome from the manager at dinner - hard to fault really. Breakfast was excellent - great fun watching who ignored the sign saying you have to spray oil on the waffle maker! Dinner was superb but not cheap......

My family and I spent one night here on our tour of Iceland. Although the room was quite basic by American standards, the owner has done a wonderful job of bringing a touch of elegance and quality to a remote area. Dinner was excellent but it took a while to be served. The owner was very gracious and gave us...

Nice hotel, very friendly and competent staff. Bar has a nice wine special, otherwise that's a little on the pricy side. Sadly, my visit was cloudy, but when the lights are shining, there are great lounges outdoors from which you can recline and view. Hot tubs and billiard room also nice. The suites are pretty insane - definitely worth a...

Fabulous little gem of a hotel. I would love to go back when there is more chance of seeing the Northern lights :) I actually visited in May 2014! Clean and comfortable room and hot tubs outside with fantastic scenery and great staff - what more can you ask for!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Ranga is a luxury countryside hotel and the only 4 star resort in South Iceland. It offers all the facilities and services of a modern resort. Located about an hour from Reykjavík between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur, it lies just off the main road right in middle of South Iceland’s panoramic scenery. The resort is built in log-cabin style and has through the years acquired an excellent reputation for its food, accomodation and service. It is the first Icelandic hotel to become a member of the prestigious international hotel chain Great Hotels of the World. A celebrity hot spot, top honeymoon destination and favorite hotel amongst Icelanders, Hotel Rangá also offers great facilities for small business meetings, weddings and social gatherings. One cannot miss feeling welcome entering its warm interior where relaxed countryside feeling meets the professional ambition of pleasing its entire clientel. Upon entering Hotel Ranga, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. He is a favorite model for photographers and is definitely one of the most pictured objects in Iceland. This is just a prelude to the cozy ambience that you will encounter that vibrates throughout the hotel. Hótel Rangá was upgraded and renovated in 2007/2008 and presently has 51 luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. It also features an acclaimed riverside restaurant, a lounge and bar, 2 upstairs meeting rooms, a game room, massage facilities and three much beloved outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water - where there is an excellent chance to view the fantastic northern lights during September through April. ... more   less
