I booked here knowing of the conflicting reviews on here. I am going to address some of the negative comments that I have read, this will also give you an idea of what I felt of the Rippen-Kinsella House. First we arrive on Friday at 3:30pm and we left Sunday at 8:30am. We stayed in the Maid's Room. When we...

The Rippon-Kinsella House is an eclectic mansion of years ago. For example there are at least 70 old time radios throughout the house. The mansion hosts Roger & Dave will feed you well and encage you in eclectic topics. If you can picture yourself sitting on a 150 years old mansion wrap-around front porch looking out on the "garden of...

This place seems to have attracted some contrasting reviews. I decided to book because of the many positive reviews and wasn't disappointed. The guest areas were tidy and clean and I didn't see anything that bothered me. The historic ambience of the house was nice, too, and it was conveniently located fairly close to downtown and in a historic district....

This is a fraudulent and dangerous "business." Please read the other negative reviews and stay away! I planned a 3-day vacation with my 11-year-old and booked 2 nights at the Rippon-Kinsella House. The online reviews looked good overall but I was in a rush so didn’t check the negatives one carefully - a big mistake. We arrived early afternoon and...

This is the second time this vicious and unfair review has been posted. This woman left without paying, took the key and the only reason she came back was to get her cell phone. Yes, I did call the police and no, they didn't threaten to arrest me. Who are these people? We are coming to realize the "double edged...

My wife and I enjoy staying at historic B&B's. With so many modern facilities touting their state-of-the-art this and that, it is occasionally nice to cozy up in a place someone calls home and enjoy a less complicated stay. We expect clean rooms, good food for breakfast and courteous service. Owners Dave and Roger went beyond that during our two-night...

If you want to get from point a to point b traveling through the U.S , stick to the freeways and stay at the major intersections at a Quality Inn. Cheap, fast, boring. You can be anyplace USA. I prefer, when the opportunity presents itself to make part of the journey an experience. The Rippon -Kinsella was just exactly what...

My girlfriend and I recently spent a weekend in Springfield and were looking for someplace nicer than your cheapo inn by the freeway. Wow, did we ever find a gorgeous property. The reservation process was very simple through their website. We received an email with the check in information promptly. On arrival, Roger walked us through the house, giving a...

Enjoyed a one night stay at the Rippon Kinsella house over the memorial day weekend. Just a stones throw from Lincoln's Tomb the RK house is a beautiful Italianate home built 1871. We stayed in the captains room; very spacious and full of interesting memorabilia. Roger had some restaurant recommendations, we took his advice and had one of our best...

We DO NOT recommend The Rippon-Kinsella House. Website is not a current representation of the B&B! We've e-mailed a more detailed letter to Roger Schmitz & Dave Ridenour, Co-Owners/Proprietors. Here are some important points from our experience. Our ETA was 4p, we arrived ~4:15p (we checked out before 4:45p same day), we were met at the door by a disheveled...

This is unfortunately extremely vindictive. I don't know what we did to make her say these things, but I think I know why. Roger tries very hard and doesn't deserve this. Please read the other reviews about us before you make a decision. Thank you. Dave Ridenour Co-Owner The Rippon-Kinsella House

When we drove up we what we saw was an elegant beautiful house with a yard ringed by large shade trees. The yard had nicely done with shade gardens with whimsical yard art. There was a lovely wrap around veranda where we sat in the morning and listened to bird song and watch squirrels scamper while Roger served us our...

“Book before Fall, 2016 as the hosts will be closing the door to guest forever.”

“The Captain's Quarters is best suited for early risers since the unique Italianate windows do not lend themselves well for window shades.”

“Captains Room was very nice. I'm sure the others are OK , too; as were did get a look at them.”

“The home is not handicapped accessible as it was built in the 1870's. If you have mobility issues due to arthritis, be sure to let the owners know when booking. They will be sensitive to any disabilities. The stairway is narrow and winding, which was very typical for that time, so you will want to be careful when going up and down, but it certainly isn't a safety issue either. The Campaign Room is very comfortable. I have stayed in that one twice so it's my favorite.”

“For extra space, especially if you have a 3rd person, choose the Captain's Quarters. They will provide a roll-away bed or the 3rd person can use the full-length couch. The Maid's Room might provide a bit more privacy if there are other guests, as it is separate from the other 2 rooms. If you have pet allergies, there is a cat & dog that currently reside there. They were not any bother to us, never in our presence as they keep them away from guests.”
