I've been staying at the Winema since just prior to Al & Verna managing the lodge. The have done an outstanding job making this a home away from home for lots of hunters the last 10-15 years. Always look forward to seeing old friends. Something about the motel rooms, some of the best sleep ever is done at this place....

We stayed four nights while on a waterfowl trip to the Klamath and Tule refuges. Stayed in the motel wing. Rooms are plain and basic. However, they are clean, the water is hot, full size refrigerator and quiet. We ate most of our meals in the lodge. Plenty of home style food. Nothing fancy but satisfying. Verna packed lunches for...

Five geology colleagues and I wanted to spend time looking at lava flows on Medicine Lake Volcano, south of Lava Beds National Monument in Northern California. Medicine Lake is a two hour drive from the nearest small city (Klamath Falls Oregon), and the lodging options in closer-in Tulelake and Dorris California are quite limited. We found the Winema Lodge on...

True...the rooms in the "motel unit" are pretty basic but if you are birders and want to be near the Lava Beds...this is the place to be! It is the closest lodging to Lava Beds and ideally situated to do the driving tour of Tule Lake. We stayed two nights and one day we made a quick trip towards Lava...

We had reservations for several months in advance. We were to have dinner as well and we're looking forward to a nice home cooked meal and a comfortable room. What we got after being on the road for 12 hours was no dinner and a bad room. We were told she decided not to do dinner that night and we...

Like the other reviewers point out... basic is the operative word. But I would add clean and comfortable and very down home. The rooms in the lodge are for multiple guests, big families or groups and communal bathrooms. The lodge also has a spacious and comfortable big room with TV, pool table, comfy sofas and books and magazines. The adjacent...

I saw our stay at Winema Lodge as a chance to get away from the typical hotel chain - and I was very happy with our experience. We were greeted by Annie as soon as we pulled up (the owner's dog). We stayed in the main lodge. Community bathroom, no television, fridge and microwave in the rooms. To relax, we...

This is a very basic lodge, not a place for people who mind frayed towels. We stayed in one of the motel type units, not in the main lodge. It was clean, and the continental breakfast included cereal and fruit. For us the real drawback was not having air conditioning. It was 97 degrees when we were there, and while...

To me, people can make or break any experience. The proprietor was so very nice and really made our two night stay more than it would have been otherwise. If you're expecting the Hilton, or even a Holiday Inn, this might not be the place for you. If affordable, clean, basic lodging in a great location for birding, hiking, cave...

We visited in August, not the best time to see birds. This is traditional lodge with plenty of room for large groups, and great for family get-togethers. The main lodge is two stories with a dorm room on the second floor. The bathroom for the lodge has four showers. Downstairs you find several group rooms for fewer (2-4) numbers, then...
