European Atmosphere. Your hosts are fluent in Dutch, German, Italian, French, and Swiss, and they also speak some Spanish. They have been residents of Alaska for 33 years and are happy to share their knowledge of Alaska with you. We offer delicious homemade European-style breakfasts, and are happy to accommodate the needs of travelers from all over the world. We are proud to assist mountain climbers who stay with us before and after their trips by allowing them to use our large backyard for spreading and drying tents and other equipment. We also offer our garage for equipment storage and we can store important documents, such as your passport, in our safe while you are out climbing the mountain. A special rate is available for climbers -- please contact us for more details.
I am sad to say that the proprietor informed me that I was most likely the "last" guest at this venue. This is sad because it really was a great place to stay. The owner said that she had run it for thirty (30) years and was ready to move on. I don't blame her but I will not get a chance to have a repeat stay and I definitely would. Her specialty is pancakes for breakfast and they were good. My favorite thought was the homemade jelly and jams that she makes. WOW ! My favorite was one that is usually not found hardly anywhere and that was the strawberry and rhubarb jam. I even took some home. The rooms were very nicely appointed and comfortable. So I guess the only thing to say is enjoy your retirement.

Dear Traveling Friends, First off, let me say that I have never stayed at a bed and breakfast prior to my visit to this establishment last week; therefore I really had no specific expectations that needed to be met or exceeded other than arriving late without a hassle. (There was no hassle.) Had I done my homework prior to my visit, I would also have been aware that different states have different regulations about what is required of bed and breakfasts, so using a universal comparison isn't exactly fair to them or rest of us low-maintenance travelers out there looking for a decent place to flop while adventuring into the wilderness on a budget. With that being stated: if you have a problem being humble or grateful when you are getting a great value for your money, I would opt for a downtown Anchorage hotel. I didn't read any reviews prior to booking my stay but now that I have, I'd like to share my own input about MY stay: 1. Irene Green runs the establishment and is one of the most lovely people I have every met in all my years of travel. Her staff also delivers the same level of hospitality and professionalism--and they speak multiple languages to effectively assist their diverse guests. As I reflect upon my own American schooling which had a mandate of learning only one language, I am quite humbled by this extraordinary skill and service to the guests at Anchorage European Bed and Breakfast. 2. The continental breakfast was excellent! The variety of items and companionship around the table with other guests is a rewarding experience in and of itself. One day I missed that breakfast and I still received coffee and a piece of cake. I don't remember any hotel doing that for me. 3. If you need tourist advice or direction, the staff is eager to assist and can provide you with maps, materials and the like. 4. The shared bathroom and shower was in better shape than most of my friends and family. In fact, the shower downstairs was GREAT. (In fact, I would love to copy the beautiful mosaic tile pattern, it's gorgeous!) So what didn't I favor? When I arrived to my room, there was a very strong odor of cigarettes that had me quite concerned, as I wasn't sure I could handle that for several days. Fortunately, it cleared up rather quickly after I started clunking around after my late arrival and it mysteriously didn't continue. Despite the "no smoking" signs, I am guessing someone had no problem breaking the rules while the staff were asleep. There's your review on some people: can't walk a few steps to smoke outside but have no problem inconveniencing other guests with health concerns or complaining about everything else. In conclusion, this lovely location is well worth your time and money for a decent stay. If, like me, you are looking for a big sign in the dark to lead you into the driveway, you won't find it; instead, trust your GPS, the bright lights and the cool display of international flags out front and you'll know you are home. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. I've been to Anchorage more than once and this was by far the most relaxed stay I've enjoyed there. Peace and happy travels!…

As others have said, this place is in a quiet neighborhood, which we like. But the rooms are small, dusty, decorated oddly. The shower had no place for my soap or shampoo, and there were two hair dryers, neither of which was usable. The hostess was pleasant enough, but Bert, the host, was affable, courteous, informative and makes a GREAT breakfast. Actually, so much food that we couldn't do justice to it. The breakfast made this a three-star review; without it, I'd give it two stars. Too much money for what it is.

House is in a neighborhood and was obviously turned from standard family home into separate-room accommodations. Nothing inside was renovated or attended to (i.e. bathrooms felt like 80s decor, felt a little unclean/used). Beds were fine, nothing special or plush. Rooms were cluttered with decor which can either be cute or irritating. Blackout curtains were nice for summer sun. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful, and hosts were helpful and kind. Quite pricey for the lack of updates, but it was peak tourist season.

We were in a downstairs room with a small bathroom for 6 people. Not sure the sheets had been changed, but was so tired after a long flight that I fell in the bed. The place is musty and not very well taken care of. I got up early as I am from the east coast to make sure I got a shower I was up early. The blueberry pancakes were good. If there are a number of people you will need to eat in shifts. I am thankful I had only booked for one night. This is a good reason to read reviews before booking. Parking is limited as this is in a residential area

Lovely b&b with friendly hosts, amazing blueberry pancakes for breakfast, comfy beds, good WiFi, lovely lounge areas, off-street parking, out of downtown but handy to shops. Small bathroom to share but fully equipped.

Rooms were musty, beds were uncomfortable, and the place wasn't well maintained. We called weeks in advance to confirm what breakfast consisted of, and most of what was listed wasn't served. Breakfast consisted of 1.5 small, overcooked pancakes/person and toast w/ jelly. They tried to add tax on top of a reservation which stated the complete total, and double charged my credit card. We recommend you look elsewhere.

The European B&B is more like a hostel with breakfast than a B&B. It was hard to tell but they are renting out at least 4 bedrooms but only with 2 SMALL, outdated bathrooms that you must share with up to 8 people. A previous user left her hair in the shower drain (not fun cleaning that out) and another left poop in the potty. There are three bedrooms downstairs so you will be listening to footsteps and conversations through your ceiling. Hopefully, you are a sound sleeper. The house is quite cluttered and you will need to take taxis everywhere at about $15 per ride. On the plus side, the King bed was comfortable and Bert makes tasty flap jacks (every morning).

It is funny how things that we see as failures can turn into so positive experiences. We got to this amazingly friendly B&B only because the hostel we had booked did not honor our reservation. Not only had we great rooms, food and surrounding but also were treated by Bert, the Dutch host, as friends. Absolutely worth visiting!
