In November 2013, I visited Kona Reef for a week and I am pretty sure I gave it a glowing trip advisor review. I definitely recommended it to several friends who were looking for a condo in a central location in Kona. I decided to stay here again on my 4th trip to the island in November 2016 because I... E-22 at Kona Reef Resort is the nicest unit I've stayed in yet and I've stayed in quite a few of them. E building is nice because you get sunlight all day-it's never dark like some of the other (B) buildings and you aren't blinded by the sunset coming directly into your living room like in the direct ocean front... We chose to do a VRBO for the first time. The Kona reef is in a great location and has a great Boogie boarding spot out front. The barbecue area and pool are nice. The only complaint I have is that our unit is quite outdated with the bathroom in dire need of updating. It is hard to tell from... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your Kona Reef stay. You are correct that the condos differ from each other in terms of how much they've been updated, etc. Each condo is owned by an individual owner. It's helpful to mention the condo number in your review as it helps future guests to know which... More

We loved the Kona Reef for design and location and the 1 bedroom unit we stayed in was perfect. We rented unit D2 from the private owners and could not have been happier, The unit was clean, modernized, comfortable and very well stocked. The owner clearly takes pride in their vacation home. This unit was ground level oceanfront with great... More

The complex is kept well. But the condo F25 not so much. It is as it was when it was built. The beds are really lumpy. The decor is dated and there is no air conditioning in the one bedroom of the unit. The appliances are worn out and need to be replace. It overlooks the pool/spa and is facing... More

Just south of Kona's downtown, The Kona Reef is a condo project with individual condos rented by owners. We rented D-16 which was right on the water...a super location. They have a very nice pool and spa. They have 4 BBQ's that management cleans to new condition every morning. The place has some age, but is very well kept. Our... More

D-14 is the one to get! Second floor oceanfront with waves breaking just 50 feet from your lanai. Michael keeps the condo fully stocked with beach towels, beach chairs, snorkeling gear, boogie boards, just name it, it is there. The kitchen is stocked with all appliances and equipment. It has washer and dryer, the most marvelous king size bed, walking... More

The view is perhaps one of the best in the complex. Great 3rd floor vista of ocean, beach and adjacent coastal land. The location is ideal for walking to town and restaurants. Everything worked and was clean. Complex was well attended to. With that said, this place is a throwback to the 70's. I expected to hear disco music at... More

Aloha Thank you for your feedback! The Kona Reef is managed by different management companies and décor varies. I am not sure which unit you stayed in but glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. More

We rented a one night stay (B33) . These rooms are individually owned. From walking in the air conditioner could not be shutdown--no remote control we were forced to stand on an unsafe chair and reaching over the TV set to turn off, the rugs were filthy, mold and slime in shower, the dishwasher had not used the soap still... Stayed in an ocean front two bedroom condo. Very clean and well appointed. We were lucky enough that no one was scheduled to check in the next day so we opted for late check out to have more time to enjoy Kona prior to our late night flight back to states.
