My Hawaii Hostel's location is approximately thirty minutes from the Kona International Airport.
Their website is accurate ( outlets for each bed to charge your phone or extra battery)
Plenty of room under the bed for luggage and standing lockers with keyed locks included.
Take a Mylar blanket to sleep at night, if the air conditioner and ceiling fan is too cold for you.

This place ticks all the right boxes I can think of. I stayed in a nice 4 bed dorm with AC facing the rear - very quiet. Rooms facing the front may experience some traffic noise, but I don't know since I didn't stay in those. Easy place to socialize, good size, well maintained and good lay-out. Did not have the packed and crowded feeling you get in many hostels. Short walk to a small beach (better than a pool if you ask me), free trolley to town just outside, and free parking on the property. Absolutely great staff.

Landing at the My Hawaii Hostel was like hitting the jackpot! You never really know what you’re going to find until you show up and I am so very glad I did! The staff are very welcoming and feel like instant Ohana (family). It’s kept really clean and comfy without all the toxic scent smells which is what sealed the deal for me to book and stay. The people drawn here have a unique and divine alignment and for me it seemed there were no chance meetings. I made life long friends in just two days that led to the opening of a beautiful path. Lisday, the very warm and bright soul (who is also a balloon artist) is a real gem of an employee. He helped me feel safe and to trust the flow. If you get to meet him he will for sure bless you up with his hospitality and gregarious ways.

Pros: The hostel has a great location in Kona. The free trolley stops right outside and it’s close to many restaurants and shops. It’s clean, well maintained, and safe.

Cons: I’ve stayed at hostels all over the world and the staff here is the worst I’ve ever seen. Since it’s a small place there is only 1 staff member on at a time but it’s often hard to tell who that staff member is because they mostly spend their time socializing with guests. They act like it’s a frat house and not a job. At 11 pm our last night, one of the staff members came into our room (where 5 people were sleeping) to show a late check in her bunk. She yelled “Why is the door locked? Who keeps locking this door?” before coming in. She then continued to loudly talk to the new guest like the rest of us weren’t trying to sleep. We also had issues trying to charge our EV rental car. Before getting the car, we asked a staff member if it would be ok to plug it in at the hostel and they said yes. (It was the low level charger with a standard plug) The next staff member to come on shift unplugged our vehicle so it didn’t charge. She wouldn’t let us plug it back in because “electricity is too expensive.” We ended up returning the car and losing money because of this.

Bottom line: stay here if want somewhere clean and safe to stay but don’t care about customer service.

This place did not honor our booking.

My fiancé and I booked a mixed 4-person room for 2 nights months in advance since there were no privates. However when we arrived to check in, the staff said they could not honor our original booking.

Instead we were separated. She was rebooked into an 8-person room while I was rebooked into a different 4-person room.

The booking was placed months in advance. We even called in ahead of time and left a note in the booking. The only plus side is that Jason and the staff were all very nice.

For any lodging, one of your fundamental jobs you can’t screw up is the booking. For travelers arriving late at night, you literally have no choice but to deal with what you have and that was the situation we unfortunately found ourselves in with this place. Avoid this place.

We had a private room, shared bathroom at this hostel. For a hostel it is a little pricey in comparison to the rest of the world but... this is Hawaii and we had a great time at this hostel.
There is a good atmosphere here and a good, relaxed welcome from the manager on arrival.
The room was very basic but clean.
The shower and toilets were also very clean and easy to maintain your privacy.
The kitchen is very well stocked with utensils and appliances and again everything was clean.
There are "free food" sections in the fridge and cupboard.
We also made use of the free body board and beach towel loaning.
You can rental snorkel here much cheaper than on the beach.
Overall we were really pleased we chose to stay here and recommend it to other backpackers.

My Hawaii hostel is a cute little place near downtown Kona. It is a small space, so it's a very social hostel. I mention this because there is very little space to find a corner for yourself, if that's what you want every once and a while.

Upon arrival it was hard to find a person to check on because the "office" is in the kitchen -- which is fine if I'd known! There were quite a few people there so I wandered around until a staffer member noticed I wanted to check in. After that it was smooth sailing.

Aside from all that, the facilities were good and staff was very friendly! They do have parking, and there's a stop for the trolley right out front.

Absolutely loved this hostel. Actually extended my stay here because I enjoyed it so much. The staff is so friendly and welcoming, the vibe is casual, relaxed, and wonderful, and the location is easily accessible. If you want a true hostel experience - making new friends, exploring new places, having unbelievable amounts of fun - then this is definitely the place to stay

Great place with amazing people! I’ve now stayed at My Hawaii Hostel twice and have felt at home both times. The current staff (Luna, Kaysha, Chloe, Cello) made my last stay exceptional with their kind hearts and impressive work ethic. The hostel is further from town, but it is worth the extra bus rides and Ubers to stay here! Keep your plans open for adventures with strangers that will turn into your best friends. 🤍

I stayed 6 nights, staying in their private room. It was well run, reasonable, and central to everywhere I wanted to go. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and quiet hours enforced reasonably well. Definitely will stay again next time I visit Kailua-Kona.
A+++

How much are rooms? Is there bus from airport? Is there any availability for tomorrow??
Answer from Jenaya R
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii11 contributions1 helpful vote
Aloha, yes we have availability all week. The rates are $45 per night tax inclusive per night for a bed in a shared dorm and $90 tax inclusive for a private queen room. There is a bus from the airport at 8:35 am and 4:00 pm. If that doesn't work there are shared shuttles that are cheaper than a taxi. However, they need to be booked in advance. I recommend Roberts Hawaii Express Shuttle.
