We stayed for five days in cabin #8 with our teenage daughters. We instantly fell in love with Custer State Park and visited every day, either before or after other excursions. This is their largest cabin: queen bedroom, queen bed in living area, single loft bedroom, small kitchen, and a generous covered porch. The kitchen does not have an oven,...

While visiting the Black Hills of South Dakota, my wife and I were looking for a nice, economical place to stay. The Shady Rest Hotel fit those requirements nicely. We took one of the newer cabins in the back, and it provided us with all that we needed. The bed was comfortable. The sofa gave me a good place to...

Just arrive and everything is great so far! My husband just had back surgery, so I have to do all of the carrying. Anne was great helping me unload! The cabin is awesome, everything I hoped for. Unloaded and sat on the deck and chilled. WiFi is super fast and I love the old timey feel. Peaceful and relaxing.

Stayed at the Shady Rest Motel for a week . couldn't have asked for better service, better accommodations outside of a hotel. The cabin was impeccably cleaned and Anne gave great advice of things to do in & around Custer! Would definitely stay again!

After spending four nights here in mid-August, I have very mixed feelings about this motel. On the one hand, it seemed like a charming family operation, with an all hands on deck approach by parents and children alike – good people running a business to make their ends meet. The owners appeared quite nice, and I established a strong rapport...

We have stayed MANY places in and around Custer over the last 25 years. This was our first stay at the Shady Rest. I had read the positive reviews on TripAdvisor prior to making reservations. These reviews were very accurate! The property is on the edge of town, but within easy walking distance to the downtown area. It is well...

I could not believe what a find the Shady Rest Motel and Cabins was! We have never been to South Dakota and were winging it by their website. The cabins were awesome. All contained AC, cable, an dorm size fridge, little electric stovetop thing, toaster and coffee pot. One of the best things was the full size hot water heater!!...

Great family owned place. Nice owners and clean accommodations. Walking distance to downtown but quiet and off the highway. Easy drive to the monuments and close to Beautiful Custer state park. The new cabins are pretty small and cozy but had the necessities of a small kitchen for a fun family cookout on the charcoal grill provided. Would stay here...

We had an amazing vacation in the Black Hills thanks to Ann and her family! This was the perfect place to stay. The cabins are adorable and so well maintained. The kids loved it! Ann was so helpful and knowledgeable about all of the fun and interesting things to do that are not in the guides. If we ever come...

This was a great family run place. Ann was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area and very easy and pleasant to talk to. The cabins were clean and the price was perfect! There is a playground right across the street that my kids loved and everything in the town is within walking distance. This is a great place to...
