The hotel is located right in the heart of things, great access to Bourbon or Frenchmans Streets. We got room 116 whose entrance is directly to the street, very convienient but a bit noisy with the all night revelers on the street. The hotel did supply earplugs, but by the time we got in, they weren't needed. The photo is...

This is a charming property spread over two streets. There is a pool and spa. The location is adjacent to Frenchmen Street so good music is easy to find. The rooms are spacious and mostly quiet although sometimes the upstairs guests can sound like they are 1 ton elephants.

I always try to stay at "reputable" hotel when traveling, but this time I was talked into staying at a Bed & Breakfast. I have been to New Orleans several times, so I was willing to try. I must admit, I was a little skeptical as I got to the Lamothe House, but I was pleasantly surprised. I was upgraded...

We are regular visitors to New Orleans and spend most of our time near Frenchmen and in the Marigny area. We have stayed at The Lamothe House several times over the past 17 years, it's perfect for where we like to be.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. We have stayed here a few times and the new owners are continuing to improve and repair the property, which was in desperate need up upgrades. Unfortunately wear and tear by the guests is starting to show and not being kept up. Bathrooms especially need work to repair damage done by previous guests....

We had a wonderful experience at the Lamothe House! We stayed in one of the cottages behind the main building and were very impressed with the remodeled homes. Very clean yet antique feeling. We even had a little bit of paranormal activity which couldn't be explained ("someone" or "something" playing with our beads at night). Overall a great first time...

My stay was great. It was my first time staying here for my birthday. The hardwood floors are a plus. The beds are comfortable. And the water pressure was good. The keurig is a nice touch. I will definitely be back.

Good location in the eastern border of French quarter, and only steps to Frenchman st. Walkable to the whole French Quarter. On a lovely street with greenery dividing the street. Quiet neighborhood at night. On the down side, our room (on the street behind the main house) had no windows. Although the small room could have fit a chair, there...

We hadn't been back to New Orleans for many years and knew we didn't want to stay in the French Quarter, so we picked the Marigny for its close proximity and for Frenchman Street clubs. The Lamothe House is ideal, as it's only steps from the rear entrance to a fun night of food and music on Frenchman, and only...

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighbourhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled in the ancient oaks of Esplanade Avenue, the ornate architectural detail of the past meets modern comfort and convenience in our restoration of the historic Lamothe House hotel. Featuring an elaborate courtyard accented by mature landscaping, a garden pond, and a refreshing pool, peace and relaxation are just steps away from the thrill the Crescent City has to offer. In addition to 30 guest rooms refinished in traditional style, five Grand Antique Suites have been preserved from the original 1839 construction of the home of Jean Lamothe, a wealthy sugar cane planter of French descent. Furnished with antique furniture & artwork, the detail and charm that exemplifies old New Orleans is accessible to today’s traveler. Not to be overlooked is the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood the Lamothe House calls home. Here visitors will find Frenchmen Street, often referred to as “the local’s Bourbon Street”, which features some of the best local music and cuisine found in the French Quarter.Whether it’s your first or your next visit to the Big Easy, find the authentic New Orleans experience you are searching for at the Lamothe House. ... more   less
