My boyfriend and I stayed in the Degas House in March 2011. Already living in New Orleans, our intention was to stay in romantic B&B away from the noise and craziness of Bourbon Street and our regular lives. The Degas House exceeded our expectations. Located on Esplanade Avenue, the home is centrally positioned between the Quarter and the beautiful City...

My boyfriend surprised me with a stay at this lovely bed and breakfast for our six month anniversary. We both go to college here, but being able to escape the dorms for awhile was a great experience. Our room, the Estelle Room, was very beautiful and had a lovely porch that overlooked Esplanade Avenue. I have stayed in other corporate...

We recently stayed at the Degas House Bed & Breakfast for a 3-day weekend. Our son and daughter-in-law held their wedding and reception in the beautiful Degas House Courtyard. This was truly a wonderful weekend to remember. The wedding and reception were especially memorable due to all the friends, family and the beautiful Degas House Courtyard. They could not have...

We recently stayed at the Degas House for the Jazz Festival for our daughter's 25th birthday. We chose this place for its proximity to the festival and found the accommodations warm and quaint, the staff deeply committed to our satisfaction, the breakfast terrific, and the location perfect for our needs. Any requests we made were met and it is clear...

I stayed at Degas House on March 21, 2011. When I arrived I was greeted with a friendly conversation with the staff and owner, David. My room, the Estelle Suite, was beautiful. I especially enjoyed my private balcony overlooking Esplanade Avenue. Breakfast was cooked by Lana to my specifications. Everyone was so friendly. I normally stay in the French quarter...

Just returned from a weekend in New Orleans at The Degas House with my mother & sister. We were excited to have the Estelle Suite which provided plenty of room for the 3 of us. The rocking chairs on the front balcony proved to be our favorite spot with the courtyard running a close second. After our delicious breakfast, we...

Thank you for the gracious review. I'm so happy you enjoyed your stay in the Estelle Suite and that you found it spacious enough for you and your family. The private balcony and seating is great for relaxing and the ambiance adds to the Degas experience. In fact, that was the setting for Degas' famous painting "Woman on a Balcony"....

The Edgar Degas House was a very enjoyable stay. I brought my girlfriend down to have a romantic night and then we made our way to the French Quarter for a little get away in the morning. It was an enjoyable walk, only a couple blocks, and it was nice way to view some of the city’s awesome architecture. We...

While on vacation in New Orleans to visit some friends and family, I was fortunate enough to stay at Degas House for one night. Despite arriving at the historic home mostly by chance, I was pleasantly surprised by my accommodation. The house, itself, is a magnificent and charming southern mansion. The Desiree Room, which I was lucky enough to book...

My family and I stayed in the Degas House during a recent trip to New Orleans, and had a marvelous time. The house is lovely and well kept, and the neighborhood is well located, both for visiting the Quarter, Marigny, and some less well known destinations in Treme and Mid-City. However, when I stay in B&Bs one of the things...

As the director of the Degas House, I want to Thank You for your review. Thank you for the kind review! We enjoyed having you and your friends. Y'all were so much fun! The balcony in the Estelle Suite actually inspired Degas' painting "Woman Seated on a Balcony." Staying in Treme

Neighbourhood Profile
Treme
That sound? That flavor? That certain je ne sais quoi that lets you known you’re in “Nawlins” and nowhere else? It’s all good and in broad abundance on the streets of Tremé, where so much of what’s considered to be the very best of New Orleans culture and tradition is, put simply, just how people go about their daily lives in this historic part of town. As one of America’s oldest African-American neighborhoods and among the nation’s first established residential areas for free people of color, Tremé’s significant heritage and contribution cannot be understated. This is especially the case when considering some of Tremé’s most famous residents, most notably jazz great Louis Armstrong. For full flavored food, funky and jazzed up music, and vibrant street life presented with homegrown pride, you can’t beat a visit to Tremé.

“We avoided the garret rooms because of warnings about the AC. Might have been OK at another time of the year, but not in June.”

“The rooms on the 3rd floor were in bad shape The beds are all old. Cock roaches every where even in the freezer & the fridge!!! This place needs just more renovations & for the price that we paid , it was way way too much ! I would not recommend it at all. Being old & historical is right but mean while can be clean & worthy of stay!!”

“Wish there was, but as far as I could tell, there were no "good" rooms. We booked a pricey suite but left before spending a single night!”
  • Main light switch as you enter the room, missing paint and paint cracked
  • More bad paint.
  • This is from inside the bathroom looking out to the second bedroom. The trim was disgusting!
  • Bathroom sink pulling off the wall, mold. Gross.
