Only a single night visit to this historically interesting rest house during a tour. Although more basic than some other accomodation it was more than adequate with reasonable lighting. Lovely to be able to walk directly out of the room onto a wonderful patio overlooking the excellent river view. Our guide pointed out that it was possible to see the... More

Lovely view over river from bedroom. Room is basic but there was hot water. The whole place needs updating or at the very least a coat of paint. The locks on patio and main room door were not secure. No protection over slats above doors to keep out mosquitos. Food just ok. The same buffet menu for lunch and dinner.... More

I think people that have given this place poor reviews owing to its 'basic' nature live on a different planet. This place was about £40 per night so to expect any more than basic accommodation is not wise. The positives: friendly staff, beautiful views, we didn't see any bugs in our rooms (which being squeamish, I was particularly worried about),... More

Not far from the much newer Plantation Hotel in Kitulgala, this rest house offers just as excellent views of the surrounding scenery by the river Kelani and atmosphere, however average in terms of accommodation and facilities. There are buffets and a la carte menus and suffice for a break in the journey and to refresh. Perhaps the best feature in... More

We had to stay here for one night because we had a reservation problem in an other hotel - strange problem although we had a confirmation voucher... - anyway. So we got the last two non-AC rooms for 91 USD per room, way overpriced... Not even 25 USD worth. Bathrooms were 'clean' but terrible. Bed matresses were totally ruined. Even... More

Stayed here for 3 nights as part of an organized birdwatching trip with my husband. The view from our room and the restaurant was fantastic seeing several birds without having to move from our table. Our room was basic but clean. The service was good and both the set menu and buffet food was good. Although wifi wasnt available in... More

Very original place in fair condition. Very nice river location with good views from (some?) rooms and restaurant Food ok / good Sri Lankan and western in pleasant restaurant.  Rooms are rather basic: no air con but quite effective ceiling fan. No wifi. Showers. All rather dingy and humid. Needs some minor repair work Other facilities also basic. Some free... More

The place has a run down feel.. Government run. Nice to look out of the window to see the river running on the side but that's about it. We stopped by here for a light meal. The food was average. Seemed very unprofessional. The buffet was laid out.. Some platters were empty while others messy.

This hotel is in such an idyllic setting, it's a shame the interior doesn't match the exterior. My room was a 'non A/C' room but it did have a fan, a loud rattling fan. The bathroom backs onto the corridor but has a vent which isn't meshed so bugs could come and go at their leisure. Likewise the door leading... More

we stayed this place for one night. nice and cool climate. Staff is friendly and courteous. Food was good. I think they have to go for a total refurbishment This place is good for team building activities.
