Traditional Balinese compound owned by a member of the royal family of Mengwi, one of Bali’s main kingdoms of old. The compound is located in a Balinese traditional village, nestled in shady coconut groves, surrounded by rice fields, with three rivers running through. This is your chance to see Bali as you would have found it in the 1920’s.

This place is just a paradise in the tropical ricefields of Mengwi. Owned by a local noblesse it is located in a traditional village (Indo.: desa adat). The resorts offers you a genuine Bali experience that is gradually vanishing due to the surge of modernity and the influx of foreign infuences. During our stay coincidently the 3 days Odalan Ceremony took place at the local Prime Tempel (Pura Kahyangan Dalem), upon our request the staff helped us with traditional clothing and offering preparation to enable us to fully participate in the 3 days/nights of rituals, processions, dances, prayers and blessings. The breakfast was more than sufficient consisting of Balinesse and Western choices. The restaurant is also open for lunch, even when it is not explicitely mentioned. The dinner menu consists of Western and Balinesse choices as well and is very well prepared. For those who have trouble consuming flaming spicy asian food need not to be afraid of ordering Balinesse food, as the flaming spicy (Indo.: pedas) will come if you request fot it yourself. The Pumpkin and Corn soup are recommended, the kitchen is excelent. Our rooms were located in a valley and a swimming pool.

Disliked · The whole complex although perfectly clean and continously well kept by staff has signs of aging, as humidity damage on walls and electricity sockets are becomming visible. Probably as most visitors are short stayers it wouldn't be of any nuisance, However it is a pity to see such a great place gradually deteriorating by aging, a small renovation on affected walls and electricity sockets will help this place for years to come.

It was the best stay we have here in Bali! No big hotel with small rooms. It is like an old temple with a nice infinity Pool with a beautiful look at the rice terasses and their workers.

Excellent food, no mosquitos here and excellent personal here!

We miss this beautiful place.

Abolut Top!

We stopped here for lunch while on a tour. The staff were so welcoming and the lunch delicious. The day was hot, however the dining area was covered and there was a nice breeze coming off the adjacent rice paddy.

This is a resort as well and there was a craft demonstration area where they show you how to make local items. Throughout the whole time there were 2 women playing soft music on what I assume is a local instrument.

I would personally come back here as a guest as well.

In the middle of the rise fields and palms with swimming pool in front of individual spacious villas with a large terrace and outside bathrooms, a perfect place to spend a couple of relaxing days. Authentic balinese cousine, very friendly and nice staff. I got a balinese massage in front of the villa, which has a large massage bed.

We stayed with friends in 3 rooms for a night there and it was nice. The resort is typical balinese style, we got lovely room with outdoor bathroom. The pool and restaurant area have a stunning view of ricefield, we can take a walk inside the resort, there are so many lovely corners. The staffs are very friendly and we had a tasty dinner at their restaurant. Check-in and check-out is well arrange. Was a pleasant stay.

When this resort popped up as a compliment to my flight booking on Expedia I was skeptical initially, however with the past positive reviews here on Trip Advisor I gave it a shot with my fiancee. How glad I was when I arrived to this distinctively different Bali experience. The staffs here generally speaks English and more often than note serves us with a smile.

Though being close to nature also means some accompaniment by her habitats such as insects and all but the well kept and tranquil setting and surroundings should not be discounted on. Travelers should lower their expectation in accordance to the price paid and natural beauty in order to enjoy the stay.

Recommend: Agree that room looks gloomy sometimes and could do with an additional lighting in the bedroom.

Would like to thank Agung Nancy and Agung Bagus for all arrangements.

Unique hotel, which was a former royal palace. Typical architecture of Balinese homes, with different bungalows and even a temple (the days we were there, we met a few women making offerings for the ceremony to come)
beautiful relaxing place, with harmonious decoration. The hotel is ideally located in a very quiet area in the countryside, 15 min drive to Tabana. It is surrounded by rice paddies, which makes the stay "sooo Bali"!
We had a deluxe room, small and simple, but quite nice, with a lot of fresh flowers to welcome us. The bathroom is very original, as it is outside, in your small private garden. Charming and definitely different to have shower right under the sun!
Private Villas seem great, and have direct access to the nice swimming pool, with view on the rice fields and coconut trees.

Puri Taman Sari is a beautiful resort of a few dozen rooms outside the village of Menguwi, in the foothills near Tabanan. This area is quieter than the mad tourist hotspots of Kuta and Seminyak, and much the better for it. We stayed in a "deluxe" villa, a short walk away from the main complex with a view of the rice paddies. It had the luxury feel of a much more expensive resort. The room is large and comfortable with powerful air-conditioning, the ensuite bathroom is open to the air and very nice. You have your own private verandah with day-bed and couch, and a private path to the swimming pool. The restaurant in the main courtyard has a selection of Indonesian and western food, all very reasonably priced ($US3 - 7 per meal) and very good quality. The friendly and helpful staff can arrange a variety of tours and day trips.

We almost wished we were staying longer than two nights - it is certainly a very comfortable way to spend one's time, at least if you are happy to have a low-key and relaxing holiday. Some travellers might find Menguwi a little too relaxed - there is no shopping nearby and to do any sightseeing you really need to hire a bike or scooter. But this was not a problem for us - we were happy to put our feet up for a bit!

One small criticism is that the free wi-fi didn't have a strong enough signal to reach our villa, but there were plenty of comfortable places to log in from in the main complex, so it wasn't a problem.

All in all, we loved it. Highly recommended if you don't mind paying a little extra for a lot more value.

A little bit about us, we are a couple in our 30s on our honeymoon traveling around the East, North then lastly the South of Bali. We are on an organised private tour with a local guide and a driver and had organised this back home through Trailfinders.

We stayed at the Puri Taman Sari for one night and to be honest we weren't very impressed. The welcome was very lame, the place was very remote so you are kind of at the mercy of the people
Who work there. The rooms were okay didn't like the padlock on door which meant the door never shut properly. No safe either so with the door slightly ajar I did feel kind of worried about our valuables.

Bring plug adapters as the only had 2 pin.

Had such a bad night sleep here. You can hear everything from these houses.

Food was good, and waitress really lovely. I think thee was only 3 bookings staying the night we were there.

We went for a walk as there wasn't really much to do and all the people we met seemed very friendly etc, but again we walked for about n hour and there's not a lot of see it anywhere to go.

I would not recommend to be honest.

Dear leilacutler, Thanks for your reviewed and we are really sorry for being unpleasant staying with the resort. We would improve more better service and ensure the door lock has been fixed. Please consider that since the bungalows are situated at natural rice field surrounding that you could hear exotic animals or crickets when night times. Once again, appreciate your kind understanding and glad to welcoming you back with more memorable in natural nuance. Best regards,
