I stayed in the upstairs oceanfront suite, as well as a few nights facing the jungle side. I very much enjoyed the family, and ate lots of good meals at the Warung! Snorkeling out front is perfect, as the submarine postbox is just in front of you. Bed was comfortable, and I enjoyed the giant fish statue showerhead!
I have stayed here once before and the service and food have not improved since then. Reservations were made for me by a friend and, when I arrived Ombak, the entire place was under construction. I had to walk through the construction site with included climbing over piles of sand, stepping over a worker cutting re-bar, stepping over piles or re-bar and building materials which blocked access to my room. The 'dining room' was a tarp covered area on the beach and the food is prepared in a small, unsavoury looking bamboo hut at the rear - also in the midst of the construction zone. The food is not good...inedible, in fact. I decided to move after staying one night and the owner said she would have to charge me for 2 nights - an extra $25.00 because she had turned people away. The room next to me was empty. I gave her an extra $10.00 and left. The owner did not apologize for the construction....she just wanted extra money. The couple upstairs from me also checked out....and, after much negotiation, gave the owner $10.00 for the extra night. I forgot my phone charger in the room and, when I went to retrieve it, apparently one of the staff had taken it home....it would be there returned after 3 that afternoon. At 3, the charger was not returned and I was sternly told, not asked, to come back the following morning. I can buy another charger so that's not the issue...the issue is that the owner and her staff are untrustworthy and have no understanding of the needs of guests. They have taken something which belongs to a guest and refuse to return it. There are many, many accommodations available in Amed. For your peace of mind and value for your dollar, DO NOT STAY at this property. Please read the review posted by Shane McRae as well.…
We arrived by boat from Gili T, not sure where the boat would come into we did not pre book. I'm glad we did not. Shortly after disembarking we met Dharma, he and his wife own this small guest house. 50 meters from the boat, I did something I never do, I took the first room shown. It was one of two on the second floor, but the other room was off limits for a reno. Ours was large, comfy, great aircon and wifi in the room. Hot water (slow flow) quiet and offered views of the beach out one window and the sea out the other - loved it. Meals in the restaurant were varied and good, competent staff and we had lounge chairs sea side all day from which we snorkeled our hearts out - it is a very relaxed vibe, a terrific community and the fish and coral is tops. We will return!
We stayed 4 days at Ombak and enjoyed it. The snorkeling right in front is fantastic, but to many tourist walking over the corals will change that very soon. It is up to the locals to protect it. The accommodation is basic but reasonable value. The restaurant serves good local food and if you ask they cook you a fresh fish for dinner. It is a very busy place during the day, so go snorkeling before 10 when the water is clear, it gets very churned up afterwards du to the many tourist boats. The access from the road is not very pretty, lots of rubbish and unkept. Use the beach from the wharf. Definitely not a luxury resort but an onest local Warung at the best possible location
We stayed here for 2 nights and liked it but when we went onto the beach to sunbathe beside the boats lots of young local boys stared at us and threw lots of stones from the beach at us while we had our eyes closed trying to sunbathe. The local boys I saw going into one of the hotels beside Warung Ombak so maybe they are the children of the owners. If Amed local boys don't want tourists and throw rocks at them on the beach then we won't come back and will warn other tourists not to come either. Spoiled kids!
In the bathroom there is always water on botton, the bowl is tiny, the mattress is broken, wife doesn't operate in deluxe room. Minimum breakfast and you can see the $ sign in the eyes of the owner for every extras!
I'm glad I found this spot! Great location right on the beach, great food, and great staff! Clean and quiet. Only two minor complaints: the fan was extremely noisy and I had to shut it off to sleep which made it rather warm- definitely opt for air con (slightly higher price or at least what I was quoted), be prepared to say no thank you a lot to the kids/aunties selling bracelets and other items. This is not unique to Omback, but along the beach in general (although they had their resident salespeople). The black sand beach is lovely and the snorkeling is exceptional right off the beach. It's a bit hard to find as there is only a small path leading to it just to the right of the main beach entrance, but definitely worth searching for.
