View +++ Room +++ Rooftop +++ Small cozy place for small budget. Best stay during our 5 days in amed with 5 different stay. Good breakfast. Go on the best rooftop of amed to look at the sunrise or sunset.
Volcano Beach Bungalows refers to two beachside units, one of which - obviously the better one - looks directly on the beautiful Bali Sea. The owner, Sony, has his other budget holiday units (Sony Homestay) about 20 m or so behind VBB. First off, for all the fastidious ones out there, this is not a five-star hotel. • There is no hot water. • The next-door saltworks starting their pumping of seawater at the crack of dawn (only for about 20 minutes) may disrupt your sleep, especially if the previous night you had been partying excessively. • Like elsewhere in Indonesia, there’s a fair share of freely roaming mongrel dogs. They may bark suddenly in the middle of the night. • The inclusive breakfast is at best average. Now the positive points of VBB. Do you think in Hawaii, Okinawa, the Bahamas...you’re going to get a beachside unit for $25 per night? Right in front of the better of the two units, there is a tree that provides lots of much-needed shade in the middle of the day. Step onto the beach and look to the left. See that massive natural skyscraper? Gunung Agung is an awesome currently active volcano. Take your gaze further down the coast and you can see where the lava river, during the deadly 1963 eruption, flowed into the sea. The landscape over there is definitely different, quite barren. The reason why the USAT Liberty (a very popular diving and snorkeling site) is now submerged just offshore is because the lava moved it there. You face north here. While I was here I was treated to both the sunrise and sunset. Mt Agung has a special soft and red quality as the sun rises. Sunrise is highly recommended. Assuming the weather is clear, the stars at night are gorgeous. The coral gardens is not in front of the property, but the sea is still refreshing and while I was here, very clear. Speaking of coral, if you want to do any snorkeling, step onto the beach, turn right and walk straight about two or 300 m. It’s not the world’s best coral reef, but there is certainly a lot of marine life there, including the odd sea turtle or two. VBB doesn’t have a restaurant, but that’s actually good news because you are surrounded by fantastic and cheap restaurants. The Indian restaurant, just east of the property, serves great thalis. Excellent burgers are to be found on the main street within spitting distance. Try the delicious homemade ice cream next door to the burger joint. Across the street is an excellent unpretentious warung serving cheap and delicious Balinese food. Sony and his family are nice and in no way try to push this or that tour into your face. There are a few noises once in a while during each passing 24 hours. But mostly, all you hear is the sound of the waves rolling onto the beach. VBB is not for those looking for five-star luxury. But for budget travelers, and those who know precisely what they want in a beach vacation, this place is fantastic overall.…
Beach front bungalows with day beds and breakfast and most importantly a large shady tree that many other places are missing. 100m to the reef, dive shop next door, it's all here, it's not fancy but was very comfortable and so affordable at last minute rates.
No-frills homey, family-owned and managed bungalows right on the beach. Owner Mr. Sony is friendly and straightforward; ask him for recommendations help in booking dawn trips with the fishermen and onward transport. Had a nice big tree under which to enjoy morning breakfasts (generous and hearty portions!) and lazy afternoon bintangs.
We stayed here for 2 nights. The bungalow is spacious and clean with an outdoor bathroom. Totally quiet day and night. The bungalow has 2 chairs in front with great views overlooking the beach and sea. On the beach are some loungers in the shade. Free tea and coffee. Breakfast was great, eggs or pancakes. The staff was friendly and helpfull. We would definitely stay here again!
As soon as we arrived, owner Sony made us feel very welcome. The facilities are simple but clean and were adequate for us. We enjoyed breakfast on the beach. Sony's wife gave great massages and Sony offered to organise anything you wanted, from tours to boat bookings, motorbike hire and snorkel gear. The location is central and there are loads of good restaurants and dive shops nearby. We would definitely recommend it and would happily stay there again.
Sonys bungalows have the perfect location right on the beach in Amed. We rented snorkeling gear, walked few minutes down the beach and found beautiful snorkelling spot, even saw a turtle! Went out one day on a 2hr tour with a local fisher and his traditional fishing boat. We were dropped off at a small wreck and then in a coral garden, both great spots for snorkelling. Breakfast right at the beach was beautiful and sony took his time for all his guests, he and his wife&kids&staff were very friendly. We would definitely come back here and highly recommend this accommodation.
Stayed one night on our way to Gili Air as we needed to catch the fast boat in the morning. I found this place on Trip advisor and was not disappointed. My husband and I loved the simplicity of the whole experience. The room was basic, but sweet, with all you needed near by- a beach, a fridge with cold drinks, sun or shade under the most beautiful tree and snorkling 200m down the beach! And the restaurant that has just opened up next door on the beach was cheap and delicious. Sonny and his family are delightful to meet and Sonny has very good English. His lovely wife gave me a nice massage and his son collected the snorkling gear for us. Sonny also organized our boat tickets and pick up at cost price. So all in all it was an extremely relaxing place to stay.
The location is right on the beautiful volcanic sand beaches of Amed. Larger than average room, with a bathroom with an open roof. Amed itself was great, with many restaurants along the beach. Pro-tip, when facing the water, the restaurants got nicer (and more expensive) as you went to the right, and cheaper as you went to the left. A little tough to get to from the road, as there is construction going on between the beach and road. Ask the locals for assistance in navigating back to the location. Breakfast was included, and there was a small cooler with beers for sale. Very handy when hanging out on the beach. Sony also was kind enough to lend a hand in getting boat tickets booked for our trip to the Gili Islands.
stayed for 3 nights but wanted to stay longer. can be tricky to find the place from the road in the town just a little alley and walking through the construction in night can be tricky but OH MY GOD IT IS WORTH IT!!!! these bungalows (there are only 2!!) are directly on the beach like 10m from the water. 200m up the beach is coral reefs and you can hire professional snorkeling equipment from the bungalow. Do yourself a favor - escape the hustle and bustle of ubud/seminyak. Bring a book and unwind!
