Just returned today and thought should write the review before i forget things.
I was here with my family (2 small kids).
Nothing worth mentioning that i can remember. I have been thinking of visiting this place for quite some time know.
Rainy season is not the time to be here. Main Bungalow and Bali cottage that we were in had insects, bugs, mosquitoes all around. All 4 of us have returned with lot of bites and itching....

Because the property is at a height the Rooms get moist. Floor is wet and during rains you might just have water seeping inside.... The mattress were soggy and felt wet.... But obviously could not do anything....

No TV in the room. Only TV is the main Dining area where all families will be there fighting for single remote to control TV.....

Just ventured the resort to see the property, the path to Jungle rooms which were on top were not maintained properly. I slipped twice.

Food is better than average. Although you do not get a huge spread. There will be salad, dal, rice, roti, 1 veg and 1 non veg along with 1 sweet. Nice home made. But unfortunately they do not serve snacks in the evening. with kids i had a difficult time. The location you don't get anything. Had to drive down to main Lonavala to get something for kids which ended in their dinner.

No intercom, so for everything you have to come to main Bungalow were the hotel staff is. My room did not have glasses, i needed more pillows.... So for everything come out.

Parking was also a problem here. Limited parking space. If your car is parked behind than you have to pray to ensure the owner is in the resort or you cannot do anything. To come down in the evening, had to wait for almost 45 min to get the car out.

Bathroom are also not up to expectation. Although i would say they are clean but does not give a feeling of fresh. The towels were dirty.

The Manager Roy is very helpful and so is the staff, but they can also do only up to an extend. The property needs a good maintenance and improvement. If the owners are reading trust me such a nice property and i guess needs somebody to supervise. Leaving it on Managers is not going to help.

Over all at least in Rainy Season if you can avoid do so..... Hope the property is good during Winters.....

We stayed at Captan's resort over a weekend. The meals served were home cooked meals and were really nice. Although they were short on staff, the staff was very helpful. We stayed in the Deluxe room.. The room was very nice and spacious. It was clean and hygienic. I would love to go back there. staff was very co-operative and the food served was amazing and very tasty.

Location - At one of the uppermost hills in Lonavala. Takes a bit longer to get there, you are pretty much away from all the chaos of lonavala. You hardly feel it's a 2 hour drive from Mumbai.
The Resort - Surrounded by complete greenery it is an ideal place to unwind. A 2 min uphill walk will take you to a hilltop with an amazing view. The lake is a 10 min walk. The resort and the rooms are done extremely tastefully. Extremely well maintained. Very friendly staff who is always around. Very nice spread of food, more like home food. The Captan (owner of the resort) stays in the same house, so you know it's being taken care of well. There were a lot of comfortable corners you could hang around in. If you are the types who likes a little privacy and your own space, this is probably the best place around. It was totally refreshing..

We just loved the place. The surrounding view was mesmerizing. We visited during the monsoon and everything was so fresh. We also visited the nearby temple and lake. Abundance of waterfalls. The hosts were friendly and helpful. Just dying to go back with my son and my dog.

Captans resort, khandala is positioned as a family resort, but it is not infrastructurally geared for it. the swimming pool has a blanket of insects and the water stinks. The rooms - especially the much touted - '1st floor captans luxury suite' is a complete disaster. the lights dont function, the jacuzzi cannot take in more than 3 buckets of water due to water shortage and the heater / AC do not function regularly as they do not have any power generation unit. to top it all, they expect to be paid 120USD for a one night stay!!! please avoid staying at this rip-off at any costs.

We had gone to Captans in September 2012 coz some of our friends had gone earlier and had recommended it. Food was okay and the rooms could do with better maintainence. I am not the picky 5 star type but I yet felt that they should tackle the fungus and mildew better. Approach road is bad but atleast bcoz of that it keeps of the people who just want to party in Lonavala and make a lot of noise. The location is excellent and the bit of how they have built the cottages around the natural vegetation is something really nice. Come to this place with no great expectations and you will really have a nice quiet stay in Lonavala.

Good parts: Nothing

Bad; It is located in the middle of a hill and the approach road is so poor and steep that the resort sends its private vehicle to ferry people from lonavala. The food is ok. The rooms are filled with ants and were a major problem for our baby.

The swimming pool was not operational and we were told that it was under maintenance (seemed like it was under maintenance for months!).

The charges are so high that like other reviewers we too felt cheated. And don't be fooled by the old photos of the resort. There was no water in the lake in the middle of monsoon there.

Last long weekend (May 1, 2 and 3), I took a short trip to Lonavla with my friend and the travel agent reccomended Captans as one of the few resorts available. I should have got red flags about the place asap but had heard of it from an an ex colleague and decided to try it out. Next time, will definitely check Trip advisor first.

The resort has cottages which are quite nice but have no phones and no cell network. Each cottage is far away from the main reception so it means hanging out of the veranda or going out of the cottage to make calls. No TV in the room, a tiny pool and a non-functional jacuzzi would have led to a terrible trip if we didnt have friends in another more mainstream resort - Kamats. The place is on a really bad road so a bolero needs to ferry you up and down. The food was ok and there is a lake (Tungarli Lake) about half an hour's hike away. The resort is very overpriced for the facilities (We paid Rs. 4,500 a nite).

There were giant spiders (two in our room at midnite) and no staff to the rescue for an hour. I heard other guests complaining about frogs in their room. We had an unnerving experience one night driving there with a drunk lady sprawled across the road and when we called the resort for help, they were dismissive and were in fact questioning us why we didnt inform them when we went out and telling us to be back by 11 as the gates get locked. We were like we are on a holiday and not in a school hostel! to make matters worse, on the last day, the water in the shower started stinking of sulphur gas.

A place i would never go to and would not reccomend unless you are seeking insect company.
